Hej min vän, hur står det till?
American Fung is something that makes sense satirically and accurately emulates the artlessness of self-insert characters, but doesn't realize that it isn't necessarily actually fun to experience in execution.

The first Fung scene works, but they more or less make all the jokes they've got for that premise right there. And then it keeps going.

(Having Fung himself speak Mandarin with English interjections rather than going with the broad accent would also help a lot.)

I'm with the majority when it comes to American Fung but have to admit I enjoy both My Morning Straitjacket and A Starboy is Born. In particular, I recall really enjoying A Starboy is Born, though I haven't gone back to it since it aired. Some bits I liked include: The Weeknd's complete disinterest in Haley, Klaus' boy Vu, Roger impersonating The Weeknd, and the virgin powers song.

It's just kind of weirdly fawning and too serious about a real band. If it had been a fake, parody band I think the episode works.

That actually what i thought when i watched it the first time. Enjoyed it actually. Then the credits roll and im like 'oh it's a real band and one of the writers is a huge fan or something'. Instantly made me like it less

As you may recall, there were some strikes last year that paused production of scripted television. This included Family Guy and American Dad! From what I can tell, there will be a MAXIMUM of 16 Family Guy episodes this season, down from the normal 20. What does this mean for American Dad? Well, first off I fully expect all 22 episodes to be produced, given that AD isn't beholden to the calendar. However, the wait for next season's airing on TBS will be probably longer than usual. May at the earliest (when the Stanley Cup playoffs enter the second round), October at the latest (after TBS' coverage of baseball is done for the year).

We now return you to Step-Brothers.

I like the Weeknd episode. It's also endearing to know that The Weeknd loved American Dad as a kid and when he became a global superstar he still wanted to be part of an episode of a cartoon he grew up with.

Yeah, Fung never gets to me because I just tune out the billionaire stuff and focus on Stan's adventures, Starboy works because it features an original song that's playful and funny, and Break-Up features one of the better uses of Mah-Mah. They're all positives. With Morning, the best I can say about it is Roger's persona and since I can't remember anything about it in particular that's damning for the episode.

I think I'm a sucker for the Almost Famous bit, the creepy fan always gets a couple laughs out of me, and I enjoy the psychedelic fantastic journey Stan goes on when describing what he sees listening to one of their songs.

That said I loved your measure, I feel like I could probably use something similar to some degree with Dale in King of the Hill.

I think further complicating things is the joint streaming service for sports that's being launched between Warner Brothers Discovery and Disney (ESPN and FOX). That service is said to be including the linear cable channels carrying sports which means TBS.

I think that could result in further shakeup in programming on these channels. TBS is in a weird spot. American Dad! is their only scripted TV show left and we pretty much know they will not renew it afterwards. Other than that, they simulcast Impractical Jokers with TruTV, have like two game shows, and the rest is various sports programming outside of syndicated sitcom reruns.

It will be really strange to get a channel playing Modern Family, Big Bang Theory, and American Dad! with your sports only streaming service.

TNT is in a similar boat. All reruns outside of the sports programming. I really have trouble seeing both TNT and TBS surviving long term and this joint streaming service is supposed to arrive before the end of the year.

So, production delay due to the strike leading to a late start of the season. But, I suspect they will want the season to be complete before this streaming service lauches. We may be looking at a two episode a week burnoff once it gets started.

I still think (hope) American Dad could get shuffled through the WBD system to become an Adult Swim production - an AD block only airs once a week on TBS, but it makes up like 3 hours of any given night on AS - or maybe just get pushed to being a "Max Original".

BRRREADSTOOORRM!
I mentioned it in the thread maybe a year ago, but it was reported that WB had petitioned Disney to let them out of American Dad's contract early, to which Disney politely refused.

They're stuck with one more season, then it's back to Disney if they want to keep it going.

Maybe. I do think it's likely that this last season is going to air on Adult Swim exclusively, but a show of this scope (and more importantly cost) is likely outside of Adult Swim's budget. I think the best hope of continuation beyond this point is if the first run distrubtion rights revert back to Disney and it airs on Hulu Disney+ alongside stuff like Futurama.
