Looks alright if fairly generic. Done by the writers of the latest Musketeers movies, will probably follow the same spirit and be pretty action-y (they called the Count a proto-superhero, which isn't exactly wrong but lol).

Looks interesting, but I was hoping for a dialogue-less ambient exploration (which was too much to ask for I know). Feels like the messaging will be a bit trope-y. But I'll watch it and cry at the end like I always do now (I swear since becoming a parent I cry at the ending of like every movie).

Oh my godddd I had no idea this was even in development. The books are fantastic, mostly the first one. My fiance read them to my daughter and they were hooked on them. A lot of our favorite scenes from the first book are in the trailer. It is heavy-handed, but it's a book aimed at grade school kids.

It's not post-post-apocalypse Wall-E, it's near-future peri-apocalypse caused by climate change Wall-E.

I don't think this is copying Spider-verse. It looks quite different. Inspired, maybe, but not a carbon copy.

Not spider verse. That's untouchable. But Mitchell's vs the Machines, new TMNT .. it's not over saturated yet but it's clear they're following a trend.

yeah the trend is “rendering the 3d model with novelty shaders,” video games started doing it to counter the diminishing returns of realistic graphical rendering back in 2003. its the cinematographic equivalent of a photoshop filter. it’s frankly stunning that it’s taken this long for 3D animation movie studios to catch on

I learned recently from Andrew Hickey's essential A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs podcast that The Ink Spots broke up and reformed so many times with so many different configurations and musicians that at a certain point there were 40 groups simultaneously performing under that name.

That looks really good. Hitting the right tone is going to be hard, but it looks like they are nailing it. I loved the line about everyone wanting to save the world, but disagreeing on how. The only thing missing is that trailer really should have ended with some Ron Perlman.

That Parasyte movie looks fun. I don't give a poo poo about the quality of CGI; I lived through stop-motion, poor rotoscoping, and some janky-rear end practical effects back in the day.

There was one in 1997.

It's an adaptation of the novel that the game is a sequel to, and when I was living in Yokohama as a kid, there'd be TV spots for it all the goddamned time.

I have no idea how successful the film was, but based on the fact that it was only available on VHS and DVD (both of which are out of print - obviously with the VHS) and has yet to see the light of day on HD, UHD or apparently any sort of streaming service, I guess it didn't do particularly well.

The guy who directed it went on to do a whole bunch of J-horrors including the lovely Ju-on sequels that were released in the mid-2010s (not the one that crosses over with the Ringu movies, but the two that came directly before), and has done TV work since.

Apparently this is an original story (hence "The Grey") so it'll probably be bad...

It also just looks really silly. Although maybe they're going for that B-movie vibe? The original series was rather serious and a bit dour, not whatever that trailer showed lol

Kind of? He's been getting really steady work ever since the early 90s, with a stint in China. I think the rumor was that he sticks to the budget and the schedule really well, which for some studios is what makes a director they want to keep.
