as a learned doctor, a portion of the meniscus does receive some blood supply, it's just not vascularized, ie it doesnt have blood vessels itself. it gets nutrients by absorbing it from surrounding tissues.

there are artificial meniscus replacements but they have not received fda approval becuase the studies show a relatively high failure rate and inconclusive evidence that they significantly improve outcomes. there is an approved meniscus "support" that reinforces the existing meniscus, but it also has questionable outcomes. some of the meniscus supports have been taken off the market.

i've also had three arthroscopic procedures on my knees for meniscus issues. i was hoping the NUsurface meniscus replacement that got denied fda approval last year was going to get approved, but nope. i've had a torn meniscus for several years that only gives me problems doing very specific things, so it's conceivable that Karl Towns could return this season depending on how severe the tear is, where it is, if it's acute or chronic, etc.

2. Championship teams often have players who are better than their roles, maybe a former borderline all-star who accepts a 5th man or 6th man type of role. Like Igoudala, "The Big Racialist" Andrew Bogut, and kinda KD on the Warriors.

The celtics have Porzingis and Jrue Holiday way lower down the hierarchy than most teams. Cause they're super talented and deep.

Meanwhile the Nuggets are pretty loving weak after their top 5 guys. peyton watson and christian braun will have to play playoff minutes

Monty + Troy have combined to make the worst possible moves this year so it's pretty shocking that the wizzzzards have managed this. mike muscala was genuinely helping them win games. monte morris. GET RID OF THEM. FOR NOTING. Off with their heads. LET THEM EAT WISEMANS

Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns will undergo surgery to repair a torn left meniscus and is expected to be back by early in the Western Conference playoffs, sources told ESPN on Thursday night.

Towns will be re-evaluated in four weeks, but the procedure is expected to give him the opportunity to return sometime in the early part of the postseason, sources said. The Timberwolves (44-19) are fighting for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, holding onto a half-game lead over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Towns will undergo the surgery early next week.

Towns conferred with team doctors and specialists on a course of action once an MRI discovered the tear in recent days, and committed to the immediate procedure because it gives him a chance to rehab and get back to the team for what's turning into the best regular season in franchise history.

Towns, who made his fourth All-Star Game in 2024, is one of five players in the NBA averaging 20 points, 50% shooting and 40% on 3-pointers, according to ESPN Stats & Information research. The Timberwolves have a 116.5 offensive efficiency with Towns on the floor -- and 106.1 without him, per Stats & Info.

The Timberwolves have a deep frontline, and Naz Reid will see increased minutes in Towns' absence.

I'm after some clarification... not sure if I'm getting FIBA/NBA rules confused, but is the first made free throw counted as an assist to the passer? So, guy 1 passes to guy 2, guy 2 is fouled in the act of shooting. guy 2 makes the first free throw, guy 1 gets an assist? Was this ever a thing or am I dreaming of it being a thing?

Brown was key for them and going to small lineups with Jeff Green as nominal 5 were super important though.
