It will stabilize around the new equilibrium, so somewhere between 4C and 400C higher

In the early 90's I had a little children's book about climate change and I remember it presenting a scenario for a Venusian earth if humanity didn't get it a poo poo together. lol lmao

Decent article from Jonathon Porritt. https://www.jonathonporritt.com/mainstream-climate-science-the-new-denialism/Jonathon Porritt posted:This is a bit of a long one! So here’s my “Executive Summary” so you can decide whether to commit the time to the rest of it: mainstream climate scientists run the risk of becoming the new climate deniers. As in: Going by the scale of the temperature anomalies we're observing I'm inclined to say that mainstream scientists have been climate deniers all along.

I might be remembering wrong but I think Sagan was of the opinion that earth could be venus-ed. So it may well have been a popular 90s thought

It will take tens of thousands of years for the carbon we've released into the atmosphere to be sequestered again by natural processes. There hasn't been this much carbon up there for something like three million years. Even if humanity disappeared tomorrow and somehow every source of greenhouse gas emissions suddenly ceased, there is a loooong time yet things are going to keep getting hotter. We're at the bottom of the hockey stick baby. Yes, I do listen to Radio Ecoshock

Ihmemies posted:Is it even possible for the lines to never cross again? There will likely be some point this year where the 2024 temperature line will dip slightly below 2023. This will be interpreted as the situation stabilizing, 2023 being an anomaly, and therefore business as usual is fine.
