If the Jets do sign Bahktari and he can actually play, that’s a pretty big improvement on 60% of the Oline even if he’s just ok. He’s only 32 so there’s reason for optimism.

The idea that a guy who never plays is going to come to the Jets and all of a sudden be healthy is just not a plausible outcome. He just got cut for a failed physical.

I don't think you can sign Bakhtiari to be your starter. I'd be fine with signing him for cheap to be a depth guy/spot starter, but his injury history is just too long at this point to rely on him as a regular player.

Signing Bakh with no expectation he's a reliable starter would at least give them options in the draft. There's essentially no good WRs left available and if they can fill OT with someone who can hold the fort like Tyron with Bakh backing him up, it would open up #10 for Odunze or Nabers.

Tyron Smith is also a huge injury risk but at least he's played the majority of 2 of the last 3 seasons... That is the risk you take.

The best thing they can do right now is sign Tyron Smith, who I think you can at least rely on to play at a high level for 12-14 games a season. That gives you real flexibility in the draft that you don't have if you try to fill LT with Bakhtiari. Otherwise, the whole league (again) knows they'll be targeting a LT at 10 overall.

I think if someone was going to pay top dollar for him he would have signed already. Also, the Chargers just released Mike Williams. That's an option at WR, though a super low floor/high ceiling option.

I think he'll be relatively cheap. Look at what Nuk Hopkins commanded last offseason. Hopkins is the better player and had a cleaner bill of health.
