That third panel of the first comic just makes it. It's still funny if you remove it, but that panel included just makes it top tier.

i am furious that this post forced me to remember working daze

All I recall of Working Daze is that it's one of those comics that feels like the creative team sat down and said "We're gonna do an office comic, because if you make something relatable that people pin to the wall of their cubicle, you've got it made." The strip itself had nothing to say about office life beyond, like, "Bosses! Meetings! COFFEE! These are all things that exist!" You knew that the Boss was the Boss because...she...always had a water bottle? CLASSIC Boss behavior!

Contrast with Retail, where any given strip lets you know that Norm Feuti worked in that world for years, internalized every moment of it and had something to say about the experience - and he managed to do it in way that's entertaining enough on its own, but extra resonant with actual retail employees.

awful office comic on the fastrack has the vague concept of working in an office even if his concept of it is 30 years out of date

working daze feels like someone explained the concept of an office job to an alien

It's like this, Peanut
The best part (relatively speaking) of Working Daze is how the strip and writer both treat the thing as if it's a time-honored, much-loved, top-tier comic with years of lore that everybody remembers and loves. It does have years of lore, but the comic itself feels like it's been dropped here from a distant reality where it is hugely popular and the characters firmly entrenched in pop culture. When it used to be posted here the vibe I got most from the fondly-presented "Throwback Thursdaze" was the vibe from one of Ruben Bolling's Fun-Paks, the comic strip that ends every day.

No one's going to look up and risk making eye contact in an adult bookstore.

This was the era when midtown Manhattan, and especially Times Square, was jammed with adult bookstores, peep shows, porn theaters, and -- when the VCR was widely adopted -- video stores. They wouldn't be cleared out until the 1990s, when they met the twin scourges of Rudy Giuliani and broadband streaming video.

My wife & I were antiquing (mostly 'collectible" or 'vintage' stuff) in Adamstown, PA three weeks ago when I found a display cabinet that contained a Skittles Alert System card (complete with slider to indicate today's fear & distraction level); about 2-feet square. A used car (particularly one as worn out as this one is presented as) in 1925 that could reach 55 or 60 MPH would be a prodigy. The Ford Model A wouldn't be released for another couple of years, and was considered a reasonably powerful car with a top speed of 65.

Hah. I was looking for other comics to try translating from Swedish into English (and may have found an ideal candidate, another Western), but there is one comic that is so alike to Johnny Quest that it must SURELY be a rip-off of it (except it doesn't have either of the Quests). A Belgian adventure comic strip by the name of Bernard Prince. Don't think I shall try translating that (it is a bit too 60s re. representations of people of certain ethnicities), but it is very notable re. the similarities I just mentioned.
