Sounds like guns n roses, great white, thin lizzy, early Aerosmith

Honestly I hear the Japanese take on a lot of different styles of music that is usually thought of as American and think they actually did it better.

Absolutely, these are some of my fav bands, they have their own unique take for sure. I love Thin Lizzy and those bands, but this stuff reminds me of some other stuff. I hear some Boston in there for example, and Journey. Looking to scratch a musical itch I guess. Since this stuff has either synth or a layered emotional orchestration to go with the hard rock etc, or I guess just a uniquely cool to me mix of songwriting for hard rock.

Also, know any classic rock songs that do a bass line thing like that first song, Like A Fire? I'm sure that style of emotional rock song with a bass line in focus like that is a thing I've heard, but I can't think of one offhand.

I got into Warren Zevon recently and I've pretty quickly gotten through most of his discography. Is there anyone else that blended weird, kind of literary lyrics with that sort of honkey-tonk, layered instrumentation you can dance to?

Also, been dipping my toes into some 1970-1980 Japanese jazz fusion stuff like Ryuichi Sakamoto, Kazumi Watanabe and Shigeharu Mukai. What else is out there? Who should I check out?

Give 3D Country by Geese a go. It’s a 2023 album but the singer gives huge Zevon vibes. Great album

I hear a bit of Chris Squire there. Yes didn't do many pure love songs, but a few examples with prominent bass:

- Beyond and Before
- Sweet Dreams
- Roundabout

I'm looking for more that sounds like this song. Male mournful vocals with longer sustained notes ?
Minimal to no instrumental arrangements are preferred, i'd like the songs to be carried by the vocals mainly.

Early Fleet Foxes has hella long sustained mournful male vocals but there are instruments. They're less of a focus than other similar bands or than their later albums.

Brian Wilson/Beach Boys might be for you.

The Warmth of the Sun, which gets a lot of its emotion from the JFK assassination. Nobody's quite sure if it was already started before Kennedy was killed or right after, but they finished it soon after.

Y'all got any recs for chiptune with a jazz/fusion tinge? FM synth based would be a plus. I know that's kind of specific but I've been trying to find an artist I heard like 8 years ago in a chiptune mix and it was material like that.

Hey goons, I’m desperately in need of good “I love you and I’m here for you no matter what” songs. My fiancée is going through a living nightmare currently, and all of the songs I normally play or sing to them to make them feel loved come across more as “I desperately need you so don’t go anywhere” when things are like this.

Ideally something like this but with a more helpful message https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DxECLvhkqtE&pp=ygUdbW9vbmxpZ2h0IGZpc2ggaW4gYSBiaXJkY2FnZSA%3D

You’re obviously open to music that’s 25 years old (or 35 years old in the case of the supersuckers), so listen to Karate. Start with the first one and go to the last one.

So far I'm really liking Superchunk. Always heard the name but never listened to them.

The first two Karate albums are good. A little more melancholy than rockin but definitely enjoyable.

If you haven't heard anything more of White Stripes beyond 7 Nation Army, check them out immediately. Start with Elephant, then White Blood Cells. Or vice versa. Their heyday was 20 (!) years ago but I'm an old so it seems current to me.

Along the same lines, timewise, Sleater-Kinney. Their early stuff is punk, their middle era is indie, but The Woods is rock and the best album of the 2000s. After that listen to No Cities to Love and One Beat. If you want more raw, punk sound, Call the Doctor and Dig Me Out. As long as you avoid their self titled debut and everything after No Cities to Love, you can't go wrong quality-wise, but The Hot Rock and All Hands may not have the sound you're looking for.

Thanks everyone for the many good suggestions. Karate, early White Stripes, some Arctic Monkeys, and Superchunk are the closest to the sound I'm looking for so far.

I guess I am in fact looking for something a little harder. Or something with more swagger, bigger riffs and guitar solos. A bunch of what yall have suggested is what I tend to pigeonhole as indie rock. Sleater-Kinney (I really liked The Woods!), The Strokes, and the handful of newer bands, other Arctic Monkeys. Although The Mysterines is getting bookmarked, they've got my attention. The harder indie stuff is the sound of college for me, and I do appreciate it and come back to it. Goons are always good for getting entirely new stuff onto my playlists, I appreciate all of you.

I'm still leaning more Gluecifer, Nashville Pussy, Nine Pound Hammer, Turbonegro I guess.

Anyhow thanks all of you, I still have a bunch of new stuff to check out and will.

Some examples of artists on the playlist now are Team Sleep, Salem, Purity Ring, Flight Facilities, The Radio Dept., Fujiya & Miyagi, Quelle Chris, Glass Candy, Milo and Boards of Canada.
