I kinda think people have control over their belief in God. Tons of people change their beliefs because of an argument they heard. You are never going to argue someone into loving or hating The Beatles when they have the opposite opinion.

I think belief is the result of life experiences that are far too numerous and subtle to intentionally change. In no way am I saying that people's beliefs won't naturally change overtime, or that a belief in God means that a person will behave any worse or better than an atheist.

I always have a hard time with the belief side of things, because I believe in something bigger but its not the same as a god in the traditional sense, its more like the fabric that connects us all that we are also part of. It doesn't stand judging you because that is a very human thing, and this is beyond comprehension because of its very nature.

The universe experiencing itself subjectively and all that. Can't say I'm an atheist and can't say I'm a believer lmao. But I don't have to understand it, I'm just getting on and that's my part in it all

Yeah, but tons of people leave their church. I can't remember who, but there was a comedian who had a bit where he says "I went to Catholic school for twelve years and when people find out they always ask 'You went to Catholic school for 12 years, why aren't you Catholic?' and I say 'Because I went to Catholic school for 12 years.'"

And then lots of other people change their religious beliefs in more subtle ways without abandoning it entirely. Like Malcolm X rejecting the Nation of Islam and getting into more traditional Sunni Islam before his assassination.

Yeah, it’s religion that’s the problem. Definitely a rebirth of charismatic Protestantism starting in the late 60s is what led to the bleaching of the Great Barrier.

Angry atheism is Marxism for people who never got over having to go to extra, dumb school on Sunday. Grow up.
