How does the Hud on the bottom right read while online? Am I always the left even if I play on the right side? (Trying to figure out who to be mad at)

I think they match up to your side, so probably you're left they're right. My PC runs the game fine but there is a rare but annoying game crashing bug with the high textures so I need to turn them down to medium. It's widely known about and Namco says they're fixing it.

I've had no problems on pc and I've noticed that the performance indicator is unnecessarily sensitive, hitting red well before a load is maxed out and potentially causing frame dips; it's not very telling. There were definitely shader compilation issues during the betas, I didn't see much of this in live but I wasn't on the beta and my pc handles the game pretty well. Upscaling is a bit of an issue: the game doesn't run without it, comes with a whole lot of options that most people won't be familiar with, and doesn't properly set the right one for your machine during the initial benchmark; so that whole part of it is a mess and can be causing problems for people.

I've blocked a lot of slide show pc ppl cause it's just slo mo matches. I've even reported a few that were particularly egregious single fps affairs. Hope they fix it soon for them pc folks. There's also lots of hitchy rear end games with the streaming tag so i always assume those are people overestimating their connection

I finally learned how to combo sliders recently for the same reason I learned how to parry junkyward. gently caress you Law! Honestly there are so many characters slip sliding around (Law, Shaheen, Lee? Wait does he slide?) it's good to have something to disuade them. And I'm finally starting to play Leroy. I've got to see what all the reverse hype is about (and also he's cool).

This has been my first tekken I've put real time into since about 4, been bouncing around yellow/red with leo (Jack-8 is my alt but really struggling getting any wins). Pretty much just leaning on the knk mixup and jabs, doing well when it works and struggling when I can't get a turn. (e. the moves I'm using are B1,4,mixup; 1,2,mixup; F4,mixup; 1+2, FF2, F2+3, grabs) I'm generally being very slow about adding moves because I want to be good at using good tools but LMK if there are any suggestions I should be using. I'm often folding to people with heavy pressure strings involving a lot of ducking so that it's hard to jab them out, people who mixup a lot with throws (particularly king), and just getting my back to the wall and taking way too much damage. Also people who space well, get me to whiff and punish heavily - but I feel like every time that happens I learn a lot. Lhet fucked around with this message at 21:07 on Mar 26, 2024 |

I took a week or so off the game and then immediately went up from yellow to mid red my first matches back. I'm glad my brain was labbing even when I wasn't.

I'm not a good Tekken player but I have improved a bit over the last couple months. I was just discussing with a friend is how helpful it can be to find a way to care less about winning and reframe losing. Obviously this is easier said than done and something I'm still working on. One of the challenges I am dealing with is the overwhelming amount of stuff to learn and master. Whenever I try to learn something new and incorporate it I invariably lose more for a period of time. This makes sense but can be frustrating which goes back to being able to care less about winning and reframe losing. If my goal is to improve as a player I am going to experience these growing pains, losing more in the short-term to hopefully improve overall in the long run. I would suggest picking a couple things you want to work on and using quick or player matches to practice them. You will lose but your goal is not to win, it's to get better at those things. So every time you're able to whiff punish, use a certain move, complete a combo, etc. you chalk that up as a win. Levin fucked around with this message at 03:38 on Mar 27, 2024 |

This eddy waiting room is tough lol. I got feng to tenryu some weeks back and have just been doing quick matches atm waiting for eddy. I could push into purples with Feng but I don't feel like labbing him a lot more/cleaning up my punishers and combos when eddy is just around the corner. Also Raven is really rad and I've been playing him a bit too, but again I don't feel like learning a bunch of tech right now when Eddy should be out soon. It's a good problem to have though, Lei mains etc out there got no hope a the moment. It's funny this tekken 8 online community has a lot newer players since 7 and/or maybe online discourse has changed a bit but I see a lot more salt now over things that aren't really that cheap. It's gonna be hilarious when this crowd has to deal with eddy and marduk on release.

I feel like so much of Eddy's reputation is from like tekken 3 and with everyone having armor moves and heat and RAs these days he won't be scary. Marduk will be a buffer King and cause everyone to smash their tvs in rage tho. Do weeknights have on average for yall worse wifi player connections or better than the weekend? Probably less people overall but more than half my matches over like a 2 1\2hr period tonight have been some potato rear end wifi connections. Pc is always a crapshoot because of the performance anyways but console wifi is definitely worse than pc wifi on average too. I think I'm just going to take the blowouts and change to max rank range in ranked, maybe that'll give me more consistent connections to get blown up in.

Oh yeah, honestly this is really not so bad, I'm learning things every round and I actually feel I can progress to red just with making fewer "oh yeah that was dumb" mistakes and refining things a little. I bounced off street fighter 5 pretty hard a while ago after a few sessions where I couldn't win a single game and couldn't see how to move forward - here that path is obvious. Biggest change I've seen hitting orange is throws don't really work against a lot of people anymore - so I'm really needing to unlearn using them as punishes when I can get instead get something guaranteed out. I think my biggest next steps are integrating sidestep attacks, breaking throws more than randomly, safely poking more efficiently, using my attacks to cover space, and never throwing out moves that are out of range. maybe it's optimistic but I think those alone would put me well into red from the players I've seen.

Help I think I'm addicted to Nina's d3,4,3 combo on counter hit for like 53 damage + a knockdown, technically super negative on block from the low but you can continue the string and it's safe if they block the last part I suppose the big risk you're taking is that they can block the first low, duck the high and then launch you

I've been playing a lot of Leroy. People seem to one and done me a lot more and I'm not sure if it's because my 'Tekken Power' makes it clear I should be at a higher rank or because his main game plan seems to be pestering people with a low and high attack to get into a stance mixup, which is understandably an annoying knowledge check for a character who's pretty rare. My main game plan is: ff2: wiff punish launcher, pretty sweet. Already have that ff2 memory from playing Reina and now I get a full combo. Down side is very unsafe so I can't just throw it out there. Upside is nobody knows this and there are two punches so if I wiff with the first oftentimes people try to punish and get hit by the 2nd. d3,2: annoying low stance starter. b3: safe stance starter on block that looks mid even though it's high. df3,2: string that is+0 on the 2nd hit and can be continued into a mid/low mixup. b2: stylish parry uf4: safe launching orbital 3,3: cheap as hell mid low string to chip people out until they learn it. db4: quick low that counterhits for a bit more damage. Like a baby Feng db3. 1,2,4: 10 frame punish that lands me in stance. For some reason every character I play has a 10 frame that lands them in stance. Those are my B&B moves so far. I'm not having any trouble but I feel like it's more because no know knows his poo poo.

Nazzadan posted:d3,2 still launches? I thought one of the changes in t8 was that that string doesn't launch anymore. Oh actually I think you're right that it's just a hit now. To be honest I haven't really been forced to use it since no one has really punished me that hard yet I think I was just looking at something outdated. RBnorway says it doesn't launch anymore (also apparently it's only -11- -9 now) I don't really understand why there's the UF,N,D input to start the d3 strings come to think of it, is it to mixup between UF1/UF4,3,4 or something?

Weird Pumpkin posted:Oh actually I think you're right that it's just a hit now. To be honest I haven't really been forced to use it since no one has really punished me that hard yet Yeah d3,4,3 is really good now. It used to be super crunk, with each hit being a CH launcher and the string ending + on block, then you had d3,2 which itself was a CH Launch string. Combined they were a knowledge check that had a perfect solution, which made it kinda eh past a certain point. Now with less properties and less holes it is ironically much easier to simply throw out there, something to make your opponent block while you think. I suppose you could mixup with uf,n,d and the uf options, maybe it'll work for you. I'd call this legacy spaghetti stuff though, u,n,d stuff is old and Nina traditionally simply had a lot of strings attached to generic tools, which she can then also use from the more obscure starting points. Some of that is now gone, some of it still remains; it's the dedicated character specialist stuff for when you want to dig deep and end the round with something your opponent hasn't seen in years (if ever).

Zafina has the double whammy of knowledge check and, as mentioned previously, nobody likes ducking that avoids Mids. They're not 'just' knowledge checks - Any character that breaks basic principles of Tekken means you have to mentally pull up the 'Special handbook I only have to have for X' (which is obviously going to be less well practised) and it's firstly jarring, and secondly annoying because they don't have to do that - They just play their normal game. E: This isn't to say they're OP, or even good, just looking into why people get so emotionally vexed by any character that pulls this stuff.

Something weird that happened I’ve been watching a lot of Yoshimitsu online I’ve actively become better just by watching. I use a lot of moves that I didn’t use before and I know when to use them and I pick up some combos and routes that now makes sense Especially with a game like Tekken, where the moves set is absolutely huge. It makes a big difference to watch a pro player and see what they do and don’t use

Fully expecting the first real big patch to somehow nerf the heck out of Nina, I had terrible luck with characters in 7 before I stopped playing the game. Also kinda funny that they're adding a battle pass 2 months into the game. Though, I guess it at least looks like it gives you items for the actual characters and not like.. avatar items?

You have an incredible whiff punish in db2, 4 that is hit confirmable, a safe mid launcher in uf2, 1 (if you have heat available or are an execution savant) d2 is a solid plus on block, mid ch launcher. If youre folding to people trying to space and whiff punish, dash block at them til they crack or hit a wall
