Another aspect of liberals is they just cannot or will not conceptualise that the same people are in charge now as in the past. Even if they acknowledge past US policy was bad, they think current must be good. If you tell them the same people are in charge, they just crash and reboot. I think part of the reason is the focus on elections as the totality of politics. Especially in the US, eras are measured in presidential administrations, and each new one is completely fresh (even if it's the incumbent that won). Americans conceive of the president as the totality of government, to the point where "the civil service exists" became a scary or absurd conspiracy theory.

speng31b posted:congrats on finally working up the courage to post an epic tweet at the stalin loving red army admirers itt It still makes me so mad that people think admiration of the Soviet Union means loving Russia. Motherfucker Putin is *your* victory and achievement, if you don't like him maybe you shouldn't have worked so hard to put him in power! But, of course, to a liberal, America is both an ultimate defender of the world, and also completely incapable of influencing world events. Every day is a new day, and every day there is a new press briefing. It's impossible to argue with. Remembering 5 minutes ago is considered impolite, remembering a week ago treasonous, remembering a decade ago insane.

Poland allied with nazi germany and jointly invaded their neighbour with the blessing of the UK and france while the USSR was fighting the Nazis in Spain.
