I don't really blame Masai for any of this. Seems like just the cycle of a team.

Sabonis was humiliated last year in the playoffs and Dray saved his reputation by changing the narrative. Sabonis is in the "prove it" phase.

I dunno how much Toronto is a tank vs they are just really bad with the guys who are left that are able to physically play basketball.

Tanking in this case is sitting guys who might otherwise play if the goal was to win games. I don't know what else you can do to tank except maybe let Agbaji shoot 20+ times in a game, which is also a thing they did.

Yeah he lost some of his rep, and I think he was slow to blow up the championship team, but I get it.

Scottie Barnes is a huge win, even if twitter people call him the autistic baller or what have you.

I think Masai /toronto's front office are still good prospect evaluators, they just had few chances to show it inthe last few years because of the traded picks.

Sabonis didn't play his best but was far from humiliated. The only thing that series really proved was that Curry is still stupid good.

Looney out-rebounding him is the only thing I would consider at all humiliating. but Looney did that the lots of people over two years then fell off this year.

What’s so impressive to me about Sabonis’ rebounding numbers is that he’s doing all of the dirty work and cleaning it up. Who else on the Kings is boxing out or getting rebounds? Not a soul

Ed Rogers III no points for guessing why he's head of Rogers/MLSE has been taking a more direct role and vetoing decisions allegedly. He apparently was the guy who said it would be a waste of money to get a WNBA team

Sabonis had plenty of not good moments in the playoffs. The Warriors basically sagged the hell off of him any time he was 15 feet out which resulted in the following:
- Sabonis wide open and either refusing to shoot or missing the badly
- Sabonis driving in to a waiting Looney. Looney would then never leave his feet and Sabonis would end up getting stripped after the defense collapsed and he was on his third or forth ball fake

Lowe even postulated that some of his lack of regard is hangover from the playoffs

Alex Len is the only other one though obviously not nearly as effective.

Right and he’s only at 2.7 per game. And never shares the court with Domas. I should have specified that part. Sabonis is at 13.7 trb/g and the next highest is Keegan Murray with 5.4. That’s an insane gap and definitely something the Kings should be concerned about going forward.

It works for the team because Sabonis is comfortable ripping and running - they don’t need to have him box out for Fox like Adams and Westbrook did so effectively - but Sabonis is actually awful at transition ball handling. Last I saw the niche stat it had him turning the ball over something absurd like 25% of the time. Definitely in a “worst in the league at this particular part of the game” context. They get away with it because he’s such a good and smart passer, he can rebound in traffic and get a safe outlet. Just need him to stop trying to run the break on his own.

Robots ruin all the fun of a good adventure.

Jontay Porter was a nice story when he started showing he could hang with the best of them and gave us a non-Poetl option at center.

I now want him dead. What a lovely stupid way to ruin your career and reputation forever.

the details

quote:

At issue are prop bets involving Porter from games on Jan. 26 and March 20, multiple sources told ESPN. The NBA did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In the game on Jan. 26 against the LA Clippers, there was increased betting interest on the under for Porter props, which for the night were set at 5.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists. There was also an over/under for Porter's made 3-pointers, which was 0.5.

That night, Porter played just four minutes before leaving the game due to what the Raptors said was a re-aggravation of an eye injury he'd suffered four days earlier in a game against the Memphis Grizzlies. He did not score in the game against the Clippers, had three rebounds and one assist, and did not attempt a 3, meaning the under hit on all of the props.

The next day, as part of a daily report to users on betting results, DraftKings Sportsbook reported that the under on Porter's 3-pointers was the biggest money winner for bettors of any NBA player props from games that evening.

Porter played 19 minutes two days later and scored 12 points with seven rebounds and three assists.

On March 20, in a game against the Phoenix Suns, Porter played just three minutes before leaving the game due to what the Raptors said was an illness and did not return. He did not score, attempted and missed one shot, and had two rebounds.

Sportsbooks had his over/unders set at around 7.5 points and 5.5 rebounds.

The next day, DraftKings SportsBooks reported to its users that Porter's prop bets were the No. 1 moneymaker from the night in the NBA.
