I am not good at video games, and my previous couple of pIaythroughs I had noped out on the fight - beat HK and decided that was enough for me after a couple of tries at her. However, my kids have played on my account over the years and both had got the achievement for beating her. They've graduated to their own accounts, but I thought I should try to do it so I can say it's there legitimately. It took an awful long time - but I did also add NKG during the playthrough, so I'm satisfied. Hollow Knight is a fun game, and I'm glad you kicked butt!

In my "happy Elderbug" save file I made a few years ago I killed Zote, banished the Troupe, gave Elderbug the Pale Flower and got Ending C. You should see how happy the old man is!

I recently picked up a physical copy of Hollow Knight for my Switch. I have it on Steam already, but couldn't resist having a physical copy, with instruction booklet and map, which seem to be unthinkable luxury pack-ins for most companies' games these days. And I don't know if it's just a problem I'm having with the different controller or what, but I'm nowhere near as good at this as I am when playing on my PC. Everything seems a little off, somehow. It's the same game and all, but there seems to be little things throwing me off here and there. The knight seems to jump slightly differently, slightly higher and more floaty. Enemy behaviors and timings seem a little different, especially flying enemies. It's giving me fits. I died three goddamn times trying to get the Howling Wraiths ability, just as an example of how much it's screwing with me. I've beaten the game with 112% in Steel Soul mode, I shouldn't be dying repeatedly to a few mosquitoes.

The switch version input felt laggy to me somehow -- I'd constantly miss jumps, etc, that I had no problems with on the PC or PS5. I'm not particularly great at the game but I had massive difficulties on switch which I didn't have on the other platforms.

When I played it, I felt the same way. Felt for sure it was running at 30fps, but apparently it is a solid 60. Definitely feels laggy tho

There's a noticeable difference in input delay between PC monitors and TV screens. It could be something like that. In my own experience I played through on PC first and then again on my Switch on a TV and I didn't notice anything different. However there were also a few years in between the two so it could be that whatever subtle difference there is got washed out so I couldn't detect it

I played for the first time on Switch so I don't think I ever noticed any performance issues, but when I replayed it later on PS4 I definitely felt improved which may have been familiarity with the game or better performance or both.

Switch games always have a lot of input lag when it's docked, happens in every game.
|
# ? Apr 13, 2024 01:07 |

Funny thing is, I wasn't playing it docked; I typically play it handheld, since a) the OLED screen is better than my TV, b) I frequently travel for work and have a good amount of downtime in the evenings. So whatever problems I'm having with the Switch version, it's not related to playing the game while the system is docked. Unless the lag also occurs when playing handheld.

I did really well at HK when I first played it, on PC, but have found it harder on subsequent replays on Switch. I assumed I was just playing worse, but it's interesting to hear there might be an actual reason (that isn't my fault).

I noticed occasional dropped inputs when using the Switch Joycons, and I'm pretty sure some slight lag too — both problems never rly happened after I swapped to using a Pro Controller though.

I've noticed some controller optimization problems for some indie games on nintendo controller if I run any form of image post processing on my tv. I have to run everything on gaming mode. Many indies and all Nintendo games run smoothly even in picture quality mode though

My overcharmed playthrough of Hollow Knight is coming to a close. It's a really fun way to reexperience the game, though of course it's only going to be interesting if you like it when the game is hard. The White Palace was a pain in the rear end. As expected, Nightmare King Grimm really wasn't that bad, since the fight is so consistent. I had a harder time with Zote, honestly. I'm not going to do all the Zote refights (or the White Defender ones), but I'd like to finish the colosseum. That place was horrifying. Even the second challenge was, I think, about as hard as the most difficult bosses, maybe harder. After that I'll check out Godhome, which I've never really explored. But... not overcharmed, I think.

I got filtered by the colosseum. I'll go back once I practice the boss a lot. I guess I probably have to beat them first to unlock them in practice mode, though.
|
# ? Apr 28, 2024 21:53 |

You just need to have seen them to unlock the godhome statue I believe. It works that way for the godhome exclusive bosses and I'm 90% sure it applies to regular world bosses as well. If you're not aware, the protip for Godtamer is to keep pogoing on its head. It can't really hit you with any attacks while you're doing so, only the rider can jump into you.

Oh, that's good to know. I'll have to try that. In other news I beat all the Pantheons! Uh, not overcharmed, though. It wound up being a lot smoother than I expected. I'm still not really comfortable with the final boss's stage where it's wandering around platforms. Or Markoth. Or Lost Kin honestly. Lost Kin is a jerk. But I got my head around everything else and didn't manage to throw the final encounter away. A cool thing! A boss rush of every boss is probably too long, I think; they could have at least cut the refights. But there's definitely something cool about it. And all the Godhome-unique bosses are neat.
