Family Video lasted longer than a ton of other places simply because they bought their buildings and didn't lease them in the prime rental days, so they didn't have the costs that Blockbuster and other places did.

Man I didn't realize they were finally gone. Getting the one two of streaming and Redbox must've been terrible for them. Even Redbox seems to be nearly dead despite how low cost their whole operation must be. Physical media, even just renting, is purely for purists and collectors it seems nowadays.

Sometimes I poke it myself and I noticed they finally took all the video games out sometime shortly after Borderlands 3 came out which was the newest game I ever saw available in it There's just not a point when it's not a store you can browse and chat with people

visiting the actual store was always a big part of the selling point. just being able to spend half an hour browsing through the stacks, maybe talking to someone in the isles looking at the same section, half-hearing whatever was playing on the big TV in the middle, and desperately trying to convince yourself not to buy lovely microwave popcorn on the way out was half the fun of rentals, and it's that loss i feel keenly

Started playing Amnesia: The Bunker last night with some friends. Ooh boy it creepy. Also I'm, I guess, 'bad' at it, as much as one can be with a game like this. Feel like I'm wasting resources while at the same time having too many resources to store (so I guess maybe not wasting them too badly), stumbling around in the dark cause I put some fuel in but it burned out before I got to where I needed to be, etc. Anyway, still really liking it. I do like the sort of organic approach it has to mechanics, especially around the monster, like learning you can block holes or how to scare it off. Really don't like the rats though. Getting wounded and turning to see that two of those little bastards are following me as I try to desperately find some bandages is something i don't like much at all

It is a very slow burn, but explore and figure it out on your own as much as you can. Get on a discord call with friends and work out the puzzles yourselves if you can, think outside the box. It's got ARG elements going on, so a hint here and there might be needed as some of these puzzles are pretty drat obtuse. It does an incredibly good job at easing you into a state of comfort, slowly building tension, then nailing the moment of release. Haven't finished it yet, but the first couple good scares that it pulls off alone have been worth the price of admission. It comes off as kind of a tired premise, but the execution of it here is absolutely on point. Really excited to see where this kid goes from here.

But all the necessary clues are provided through gameplay for those still.

The Clocktower gameplay translates surprisingly well into 3D. I was pretty worried during the prologue with all the words being tossed around, but the second I got into the chase scene everything fell into place. Feels like Scream plot wise so far. Either Barton or Nolan is going to betray me, but I'm also sure after they made a point about Scissorman wearing a mask in CT1 that Edward is actually just Bobby faking amnesia to get Jessica.

I almost started with it by accident because of the NA naming issues with the series. I've heard it's a trash fire, but these games are pretty short so I'll give it at least one playthrough. Almost beat the game yesterday but gave up after seeing how absurd the amount of Scissorman encounters in the castle is.

Picked up Cosmodread for PSVR2, though I'm not really sure I know why. Apparently it's a really good game as far as horror VR titles go, but it contains a bunch of stuff I don't particularly enjoy, such as a lack of meta-progression, a draining oxygen supply that needs to be filled via consumables, and respawning enemies (sort of). It's definitely spooky though I'll give it that.

The oxygen killed that game for me Edit: there absolutely is meta-progression tho in the form of unlocked fabrication templates and, I think, starting weapons While we're on VR I strongly recommend Lies Beneath to anyone with a Quest

Finished Clocktower PS1 with ending D Jennifer. I was worried about the adventure game sections in between the classic clocktower gameplay at first but those with the shorter escape scenarios actually worked pretty well. The last scenario really dragged the game down for me though, Scissorman went from being an occasional threat to being an absolute chore at that point. I must've escaped him almost twenty times, and being as I seemed to run out of escape opportunities quickly most of those were leading him all the way to the outside door of the castle to drop him out. The beds all being too close to the ground to hid under and the closets too full of clothes was pretty funny the first time though. The Castle also is really oddly put together and I never got a full grasp of the geography despite the admittedly helpful differing door shapes. Story WiseEdward being evil is almost too predictable. And I didn't really get any other answers, Harris was helping him because he wanted Jennifer and Barton seems to have killed himself in the Garden room so maybe he felt guilty for something or not? Was Kay helping Edward? I never even saw her again. The game also feels like it was missing a cutscene between going to England and the start of the Castle chapter. We're going there and then suddenly they realize Jennifer is gone and then you play as her and most of the cast is captured or dead. How did they even get into the Castle? I actually think it won't be too bad once I play it again though, I got a dagger and a plate that seem to lead to a better ending but unfortunately I hosed up something and the only survivor I found was Nolan and Edward and I never managed to translate the note I found. Now I can avoid ninety percent of the interactables that only seem to move the Scissorman timer up. Thank god for the hints though, I would've never guessed talking to Harris is what determined who you play as. I'm not sure what the one talking about the Terrace means though, just that you can escape into the room with the ghosts if you click on the ledge?

The Callisto Protocol recently had Denuvo removed from the PC version, so I bought it a few days ago and I finished it last night (it's coincidentally also a part of Humble Choice right now). I quite liked it, I didn't think it was as bad as everybody made it out to be when it released, but it certainly isn't the Dead Space successor that I think the developer really wanted it to be. It's mostly melee-oriented combat instead of the cool gunplay from Dead Space, but they also tried to keep some of the dismemberment system, for some reason? It didn't seem to be nearly as impactful as it was in Dead Space. That being said, the story was okay enough (and I'm genuinely curious about how much of it was left over from the original PUBG story that got scrapped), the voice acting was quite good, and the graphics on the PC were absolutely gorgeous if you can turn them up all the way. For $12 in the Humble Choice bundle right now, I can't really not recommend it. If you like Dead Space, you'll find something to like here; if nothing else, the environmental design and little details were absolutely amazing, they nailed that aspect. Without spoiling anything, even after the Final Transmission DLC, they definitely left it open for a sequel, but I don't know if that's going to happen now because of the sales numbers. The answer is always both, and if it fails the market data will say Nobody Likes [Franchise] rather than Nobody Liked [Tangent Spinoff], Make New Mainstream Entry Instead. It's why people get upset when companies do this ( petulant whining not included), because it's often hard to get across that you DO want more, just more like the original.
