Plenty of people want to talk about climate change.

They just don't want to loving do anything about it and vote Liberals or Labor.

I have doorknocked on so many people who tell you "climage change is the most important issue to me, I want there to be a habitable planet for my grandkids. We need to protect the environment. Thats why I am voting Liberals"

Ok so it's not important then I guess?

The line has gone down badly on climate at a top five concern in any case. It's not going to be consequential to winning the election this go round. The greens will tap the climate sign, but they'll be campaigning on more fertile ground to gain new votes. Which is fair enough and smart.

I said they're doing antics to impress the other three people back at the xr clubhouse. They're not a group that respects or speaks to normal people experiencing day to day concerns.

Anyway I'm not sure what that has to do with people prioritising housing and economic security as an election issue. Climate just isn't going to cut through the financial distress right now. It's a luxury item.

You're not wrong, but climate change is making those things even worse than they might otherwise be. Unfortunately we're not very good at analysing big complex systems when we've got to work to put food on the table. It doesn't help that there's a whole misinformation industry busily propagandising at the same time.

Yeah 100% it sucks. It's not like people can't make the connection, but you go into irl stressed and pressured lizard brain mode. I read yesterday that 60% of people in Aus don't have a thousand bucks in their bank account. Absolutely dire.

What are you actually talking about? This weird irony posting isn't actually making a point, if you have an argument, make it rather. Railing against something that you're clearly mad about but aren't willing to directly say is worthless.

Anyway, in loving unsurprising but gross news:

The City of Melbourne just had to cancel the annual Moomba parade due to the worst heatwave since 1942 but most of the discussion I saw about that in the media didn't mention climate change

Yellow Wiggle Emma was a great choice but Helliar was loving awful, I can't stand the guy. :argh:

It's often been a PR buy-in stunt, back in 1977 they had Mickey Mouse as King of Moomba because channel 10 had just bought the TV rights to Mickey's Clubhouse and wanted a promotional boost. The parade originally started out as part of the festivities during the Queen's visit in 1954 and it boosted business in the CBD so much that the Bourke St shop owners petitioned to make it an annual event and that's how the Moomba Festival came about, occurring every year on the Labour Day long weekend and replacing the traditional Labour Day parade which had petered out in the 1940s and had last been held in 1951

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olIH2ExQ88g

The Melb Uni medical students float at 7:30 is pretty great :haw:

The word 'moomba' was put forward by indigenous rights activist Bill Onus and he told the committee it meant "Let's get together and have fun" but a few decades later someone actually checked and found out that mum meant 'bottom, rump' and the suffix ba meant 'at, in, on' so 'moomba' actually means 'up your arse'. Bill was a unionist and he was mad that they replaced the Labour Day parade with this bullshit
