Then the next day it dropped down to $40 and slllllloooooowwwwwly declined over the subsequent three years to about $25 I have never paid attention to the stock market again since then lmao

My company at the time went through a real push for people to buy stock with some of their paycheck back in the late 90's, there was a fancy presentation and everything. I personally didn't invest a penny, as I was in my 20's and spending my paycheck being cool and interesting*, but a lot of people had substantial stock. So it was an interesting day when it lost half it's value in a single day. Let's just say not a lot of work got done. Company was taken over for a nominal sum a bit later. *Do not fact check this claim. Edit: I went and checked and my 25 year old memory was faulty. It wasn't a day for the actual fall. People being surprised by this makes me think it's not all true believers and grifters like was mentioned a couple pages ago, but finance bros (and I note that I have recently had experience of such types) literally just think it's a good stock and a good safe financial bet because hey, DONALD TRUMP is involved.
