I recently started watching hockey again, after a break of 10+ years. Signed up for NHL.tv and have been binge watching games. So many new names to learn. I was surprised to see that a German won MVP a couple for years ago. It’s a brave new world.

If you haven't watched NHL hockey in 10+ years there's a good chance you haven't seen a single minute of Connor McDavid or Auston Matthews' careers, among numerous others. There's more talent than ever, scoring is up, the goon poo poo is dying out. It is a great time for a casual fan to get back into hockey.

He's a pretty good college player for a very good but maybe not elite program, which generally means bottom six NHLer or top line for your AHL team. A lot of prospects guys think he has some more upside though, maybe a middle six forward. A big reason he went undrafted is he was like 5'9 in his draft year, and he's 6'1 now and he scores more than you typically see from undrafted NCAA free agents.

Let's remember that Travis Green has to put his lineup in first. May as well just take the standings after everyone's first game and leave it at that too.

We really like him in New York. He's gotten the Toronto coach to cry like a week after that same coach was calling for the game to be more violent, the Devils to literally trade for a goon and start a line brawl (happened last night, was very funny), and ejected from multiple games. He's a real throwback. He's not the most dangerous hitter in the NHL, that still belongs to Ivan Barbashev on Vegas, but for some reason guys aren't nearly as scared of Barbashev as they should be. I'd be terrified of him, the guy looks like he's made of steel. Oh yeah, there's a team in Vegas now and they cheat the salary cap incredibly obviously but don't get punished for it. All of their guys are like 6'3" and they might win the Cup again this year. They are probably going to play the Oilers in the first round and be favorites and probably beat them, which means another likely early playoff exit for Connor McDavid, who is the best player since Mario Lemieux. This will be tragic for those of us with no dog in the hunt who simply like Connor, but the posters "mennoknight" and "Misanthrope" (and probably many other Canadians) on these forums will probably have a 3-day bender from happiness.

Is there a PWHL thread? I want to get into it but I have no idea which team to root for because there's nothing out west. Hearing about the different players might endear me to one. Currently leaning toward Minnesota just because they have a purple jersey

Crosby vs Ovechkin and both players are still good? Some things never change. Been watching McDavid highlights and it’s impressive how easy he makes the game look. So many ridiculous moves, passes and goals. Another dude who is amazing in highlight clips is Cale Makar. Will need to watch more Colorado games.
