They released that patch in February?? Guess they just wanted to put an ad out and that was the angle they went with. I'm surprised the game is getting any support at all, but I guess it's the publisher's only big project, so it's not like they have anything else to push.

I could kind of get the idea of advertising a big patch if it was like a game changer as opposed to.. "You can play Easy Mode from the start, one fight is made better, enemies now drop more healing items" That barely would qualify as a minor patch these days.

Am I missing something with the new vocations in DD2? Trickster seems pretty drat useless outside of giving you the detection augment. And as far as I can tell Warfarer makes your different weapons share the same 4 skills slots so I feel like the only real use for it is being able to swap to quickly swap to a staff to use levitate

i actually love a slow-burn self-indulgent overly-long tutorial when done well (MGSVTPP, Yakuza 0, etc) but this was just White Romcom Guy's Extremely Generic Hero's Journey
The Remap Radio podcast had an interview with the director/head of the studio and it is extremely eye opening in a very lol-worthy way. When do they actually show up? Im level 38, 45 hours in and I feel like I've explored 70% of the map and still just have the two extra classes that show up when you reach the first city. I'm kinda disappointed in the classes in this one so far. As far as I can tell strider is gone and that was hands down the most fun class from the first game. Also magic archer which was probably the second best class. I just wanna use arrows and knives. All around the class system in DD1 was better and more interesting imo.

Also, unrelated but I still can't figure out how to give my drat pawn a specialization.

Keep following the main quest line and you should get the new vocations pretty soon. Vague spoiler: You'll soon see some new map icons, pay attention to those. You can grant your pawn a specialization with special single-use items, similar to the scrolls you can get from vocation masters that grant you new abilities. I've only found a couple and I don't recall where I picked em up. Maybe give your inventory a look to see if you didn't find one already.

I have a bunch of scrolls that I think are for that but have found zero for the classes I'm using. Unless they aren't class specific. Then I haven't found one yet.

No one is renting my drat pawn I really need to spice it up somehow.

Mystic Spearhand is available pretty on, you meet a guy who gives uses it as part of the Melve quest but if you didn't talk to him then he'll have moved to Harve village.
Trickster you get automatically get following the story.
Magick Archer and Warfarer are both on the volcano island

I got a few tomes f for specializations as gifts from NPCs who I helped out in sidequests, they just kinda appeared behind me and said "hey take this".
I don't think they're restricted based on class. You just need to use them from your inventory and it should work.

The pawn specialization items don't care about vocation. Try spending a bunch of money on an easy pawn quest, I usually jump at the $10k ogres or cyclops and you can rustle that up running around Battahl for like 30 minutes.

Whoah I got mine way later and I completed that quest. Guess I missed the guy at Harve too and he moved on from there? Around 50 hours in I got tasked by someone in Battahl with killing dragons for WLCs, he pointed me to the oracle for a location, oracle pointed me to a place in Battahl that spearhand guy was hanging out in front of.

Thanks for the info guys. That’s a great idea with the pawn quest acksplode. Presumedly if I set a 10k reward I only have to pay that once when setting the quest right?

Man, warts and all DD2 might be one of my favorite rpgs. The exploration is just so much more satisfying than most open world games and to me it just looks and sounds so drat good.

I really hope they do a big rear end expansion like they did with the first one.

One thing I’m really hoping for is that it’s got some major end game surprises like the first one had. I haven’t spoiled myself on literally anything with this game but I would be sad if nothing like the epic final boss or something gamey like the evergaol wasn’t in this one.

No one spoil it though.

I think so. I've given items for quests that I'm pretty sure were only taken once despite seeing multiple new achievement medals on my pawn. I don't think you can go into debt, so unless Capcom somehow ensures that your pawn is never rented out more than you can afford (I doubt that) I think you only pay to post the quest. But it's a big crazy world and I'm only feeling things out.

Big same, I'm advancing the plot with anticipation and staying way out of the DD2 thread. Been avoiding spoilers like the dragonsplague, about which I am also avoiding spoilers.

I'm just trying to go through life without looking stupid.

It's not working out too well...
I played the Stellar Blade demo, and I'm kind of surprised at what the game is like.

There was this post from when the demo got leaked, and they said that the game took influence from Devil May Cry, Dark Souls, and Nier Automata, and I certainly see it. The layout/level design is like Nier: Automata (or at least what little I've played of), and thematically it's similar. It's got the Dark Souls style of checkpoints where you find camps or rest areas where you restock your healing items and can do upgrades. I'd actually say that the combat's closer to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, or maybe Sekiro (though I haven't played the latter).

But beyond that, it's got ledge-climbing and pole-swinging like in Uncharted. The environment scans feel similar to the Batman Arkham games, and the scans show terrain difficulty symbols like in Death Stranding. Opening chests/collecting items, and using L1 with the face buttons to use skills feels similar to Nioh. The style of the camps (in that they've got retro-style vending machines, payphones, a record player, etc.) reminds me of something from a Suda51/Grasshopper game. The opening with the drop pods reminded me of the intro cinematic from Quake 2 (that's just me, though, I don't think they were actualyl copying that). There's probably something else I'm forgetting, but it just feels like a collection of everything the devs liked from other games that they played, and sort of comes together okay. The video end of the demo also shows there's shooting/ranged combat, so I have to wonder what that's similar to.

I find the combat kind of finicky, though. I was having trouble fighting the first several enemies in the city. It could just be that I'm out of practice, but it feels like there's a half-second delay between when you press the button and when Eve actually attacks or blocks. I switched from Balanced Mode to Performance Mode in the graphical settings, and I started having a better time with parries, but dodges not as much. It could be that I'm always too early with the dodge moves, but it feels like direction is a factor; it's been a while since I played Bayonetta, but with that, I felt like as long as you dodged at the right time, it didn't matter what direction you were moving. Here, it feels like you either have to be moving backwards or neutral in order for a perfect dodge to register.

All that said, that's where it seems like the game really shines. If you can get the timing down pat, then you can just parry and dodge enemies until they get dizzied and then obliterate them. I didn't think I was going to beat the boss at the end of the demo first go, but I managed it.

I tried the bonus boss several times, and I was able to take off a third of the health bar on a few attempts, but I just couldn't be consistent with the parries, and I couldn't figure out how to dodge some of the attacks.

As far as the story/presentation goes, it doesn't really grab me all that much. I thought it was kind of interesting how there's flashbacks establishing what happens between the intro sequence and when you start playing the game proper, which makes me wonder if that's exclusive to the demo, or if that how's it will be presented in the full game. Regarding the visuals, technically speaking it seems pretty solid. I didn't try the setting where it prioritizes graphics. In terms of general style, there's some really cool monster designs.

Overall, it's not bad. It feels kind of clunky/awkward in regards to combat, but some of that could just be my lack of skill or because I'm trying to execute things like I would in Elden Ring or Nioh, and it doesn't translate directly here. I'm not really compelled to buy it now versus Rise of the Ronin (which I wanted from the minute I found out it existed), but it seems like it could be a solid enough game.

"Ah," Ratz had said, at last, "the artiste."
Ok Immortals of Aveum improves a bit after the 90ish minutes of lore and tutorials it dumps on you and becomes a first-person Metroidvania with slightly janky magic combat

What really hurts it is that my closest frame of reference for wizards with magic guns is Destiny which has equally obtuse lore but in that game it feels absolutely amazing to shoot and wizard things

I haven't set any pawn quests at all. Can't see the point? What does it even get you?

I'm drowning in money and RC anyway. Not sure what to do with it? At level 55 I can demolish anything in the game, so upgrading gear or hiring non-free pawns seems pointless. I have more than enough to fill out the class abilities and there doesn't seem to be anything else that needs either currency?

I just copied the sliders for that white haired BG3 girl for my pawn. Seems to have done the trick. Pretty much anytime I rest at an inn she returns from another players world.

I ran into a perfectly designed Guts pawn in the open world though, which is a way cooler idea. I've kept him in my party ever since. Favorited him and just keep rehiring whenever I'm in a town so I can benefit from his additional levels.

Seem some good Kratos pawns too. But Guts is cooler and better armored, so I haven't hired them.

Oh drat, I didn’t realize using warfarer raises rank in all classes, even ones you aren’t using skills for. So even if you only want to use thief skills, it’s better to be warfarer with only thief skills equipped than to actually use thief because it will still also raise rank in all the other unlocked classes.

I’ve been seeing the rank up screen pop up a bunch and felt like I was seeing the same ranks over and over and only just finally started reading the class names.
