deep dish peat moss posted:Yeah, but early on it seemed like its whole deal was "it's a YouTube cooking show but takes place in a fantasy dungeon" where the majority of the episode was about discussing the ingredients, ecology, and the way they cook and I thought that was very fun. After a while it felt like it was becoming a standard fantasy adventure anime but they'd just arbitrarily have a scene where they ate food and I wasn't into that nearly as much. The cooking definitely takes a backseat to developing the setting, themes, characters, and story after a while, but all that stuff is excellent so most people don't mind it. The cooking becomes more of a post-battle ritual and a way to tie together the themes of the story.

I think he's a good host. He does deep research to come up with questions that often legit surprise the guest in a fun, charming way. He mirrors whatever the guest is going through while enduring the wings. And he uses his hands a lot when he's talking.

Sean Evans actually has a degree in broadcast journalism and did a fair amount of on-screen television work as well as a lot of copywriting before he got recruited to become part of First We Feast. So, yeah, he has a fair amount of interviewing experience and knows what makes for compelling content, and it really helps. I don't think Hot Ones would be nearly as watchable with a less-capable host.

I'm 3 episodes into Fallout, and I'm really enjoying it. I only played Fallout 3, and not even that much of it. (I remember the Vault, and Megaton City, but not much after that. Didn't love the gameplay, please don't come at me.) So I'm close to a useful example of someone who knows very little of the "lore" while watching the show. I know the basic setup, but not much else. The show is great so far, and seems like a perfect adaptation of games like this. Minor episode 3 spoiler: Goggins character even mentions how they will always "get sidetracked by bullshit every god drat time", like I almost expected him to use the word "sidequest". I have more thoughts, but nothing I want to say before finishing the show. Goggins is fantastic, and separate plots are all interesting. My only complaint is that everything seems a little too convenient, how everyone just keeps running into who they need to. But whatever, there's not that many people left out there, if you run into anyone, there's a higher chance it's who you need to find. I do wish they hadn't dumped it all at once, because it's a hard show to talk about when no one is on the same episode. My brother binged the whole thing, and I can't really talk to him about it, because he's being careful to not spoil me. Shageletic posted:I've been meaning to watch those Wings videos. Other than Conan what are must sees? Paul Rudd. Stegosnaurlax posted:You need a control episode to see how other people handle it. Because Coney crushing it means nothing otherwise. Yeah, just as an example, the sauce Conan really went to town on and licked the wing for, Da Bomb, is the hottest sauce they have, even if it's not the last one. It has a build up of a few seconds, and then most people lose their minds. Even the host describes it as purely about pain and not flavor. Every episode, you're just waiting for people to get to that sauce to see how they react to it. What Conan did with it was absolutely insane.

It was funny Conan complimented him so many times as a host, genuinely, but Conan was turned up to HBOimum level and Sean took the Andy Richter seat. Sean is a great host but might be first episode I've seen where his guest has that much burning host energy.

So Fedex dropped off a mysterious package at my house today that just said to occupants of residence. Very weird to receive a package like that. I open up the package and the first thing I pull out is five brand new one dollar bills. Even weirder now. The next thing is a cardboard flyer with a debit card that says "You've been chosen, now be rewarded" and it claims the card will be loaded with $50 after speaking with the people at this phone number. The last thing I pull out of the envelope is a letter from Nielsen saying my house has been chosen to begin taking part in Radio and Television Ratings. And goes on to explain the devices they'll send me to monitor what I watch after calling and setting it up. And that they'll give me and additional $50 for anyone over the age of six in my house that enrolls with more payments to come during the duration of my time in the program. So that would have been great for me personally about 10 years ago but I barely watch any TV at all now outside of live sports and some stuff on streaming. Oh well.

Apparently the way it works now is that you get a little wristwatch device that you wear while watching any kind of media and there are embedded audio signals that humans can't hear but the watches pick up. Guess that beats writing stuff down like they did years ago.

Back when I was much more desperately poor I used this website called swagbucks for weird money making opportunities. One of them was from a company that would give me 50$ a month to keep this mini computer plugged into my router to monitor my internet usage. I did that for 2 months but I always unplugged it from the router whenever I did banking stuff or personal stuff; and I just stopped after those 2 months because it was randomly eating up my bandwidth. At my old place I'd get the crispest 10$ bill once a month or so for answering a monthly questionnaire about what radio stations I listened to; and the place before that I would get letters from Nielsen with a 5$ or some 1's(also super crisp) to call a number and answer some questions.

Lower Decks is so loving good and I'm glad it got as much as it did, even if ironically it's one of the only Trek shows where it could actually work running for multiple seasons without having to worry about the actors aging out of their roles.. Super pleased to hear that Strange New Worlds has already been renewed for season 4 before season 3 has even aired.
