i remember the ending blowing my mind as a kid and i really liked the ramza/delita juxtaposition

The ending was very good (great twist with Delita and Ovelia); I'm just not a fan of the last series of battles. I like the earlier chapters more because I felt they were more grounded. One of the themes of the game is, "Who needs demons when humans are this brutal to each other?" I like that more than "it was a demon behind all these complex structures the whole time."

But then again it was 1997, it was super ahead of its time, etc etc, and I do genuinely love playing it so much.

oh i read it as totally different. ramza's (our) storyline was the spiritual or religious one where delita's was the secular/materialist one. i was also sixteen and haven't reached act 4 since. i was was like "omg i'm a background character and delita did everything that mattered and was visible in people's lives"

the rando battle level scaling makes the game really arduous to replay

Tbf it's been some years for me too, but that's an interesting reading. I'll have to give it a replay sometime!

delita did nothing wrong

but as a kid I did like the framing of a historian figuring out the Real Story and ramza being forgotten, presumably because Delita won and got to rewrite things. the game does a good job blending ramza's relationship with his family along with church/state politics.

near the end i definitely got a "two parallel storylines" vibe that let me view things through an unreliable narrator lens and it was really cool
