Yeah I guess that makes him cooler but Fallout 4 still sucks

I'm not really a fan of Fallout 4's story (Far Harbour is great though) but dammit if I'm not considering reinstalling after that patch drops. The settlements mod is one that a lot of people swear by so maybe I just play with that one automating the settlement system and then go dumpster diving through downtown Boston. I never did find the Chinese submarine.

You can ignore the survival mechanics, them being a thing that is mandatory has been patched out a long time ago.

The fed/hydration bars will simply drop to 0 but there is no penalty if they do.

So, no, 1st isn't necessary for this.

However: The benefits of being well fed/hydrated are really good, though, and food/water is basically everywhere. Fully fed/hydrated gives you 35 more HP, 35% AP Regen and 35% Disease Resistance.
35 more HP is whatever for a full health build but for low health ones it's decent enough.
35 % Disease Res is meh since most player camps have the Symptomatic machine to get rid of any disease for free anyways.
35% AP Regen, however, is excellent. Especially for a full health build where your AP pool is lousy compared to low health, even moreso if your gear doesn't have AP Regen on it and you don't want to waste 3 Agility points for Action Boy/Girl.

Yeah the Action Point regen from drinking is really important for VATS builds.
You get a bunch of Atom Points from cheevos and challenges, buy yourself the coffee machine when it's on offer and never worry about liquids again.
Same for the pop corn machine and the hunger bar, if you enjoy tanking or whatever.

e; and of course there's the Overeater prefix, super good on power armor pieces and weapons if you play a full hp build.
Food is not an issue at all. Even with just a purifier in your camp and grilling random pieces of meat you loot along the way, that's more than you need.

I went "Who the gently caress is Emil Pagliarulo?" because what kind of major developer writes so unprofessionally online and comes off like a mess, but then I saw he is the lead designer of Starfield and understood everything. Canon is whatever you decide it is! is weak and obviously not true, just say he doesn't have a canon backstory and leave it at being up to the player. Idk, it comes off like something you'd say to a child.

It's appropriate because the Fallout games are fundamentally non-serious. This is something casual fans and Bethesda understand, but hardcore fans (especially 2/NV nuts) see a game about goofy ethnic stereotypes running casinos like 50s mobsters in the post-apocalypse and think they're looking at La Haine.

Having gotten kinda burnt out on 76 after nearly 2000 hours (I haven't even looked at the new scoreboard thing they've got this season), the series has sparked my interest in replaying 4, especially with the announced enhancements. It was a drat pleasing show.

Well done, Todd.

I'm at around level 580 I think? Not a poopsocker, very casual. Mind, a lot of my time has been spent with my buddy moved west whom with we've played countless hours of just "Pretty Camp Dessup". And I mean hours.

It’s interesting that Fallout 4 seems to be the main beneficiary of the bounce from the show (I know they’re all trending up, but 4 seems to be by the most).

As that guy who wants back in but isn’t sure which game to do it, am I missing something with 4? I bounced off it pretty hard back in the day and didn’t think it’s reputation has been any better since. Is it just that it’s the most recent Fallout that isn’t 76?

FWIW I enjoyed about 30 hours of 76 after that first big NPC patch they did and it’s the first game I installed when the show hype kicked in, but not sure whether to bother with it or 4 (or just default back to NV as usual)

I would say that's a big part of it. All the other Fallouts require some babying to run out of the box.

I personally consider 4 to be my favorite, but mostly because of the settlement system, which isn't necessarily a Fallout-specific concept, as well as the looter-shooter-ness of it, which not everyone regards as a positive.

I also really like FO4, it's just a great Running Around Doin Thangz simulator. Like most Bethesda games the main plot is something you can (should) just completely ignore and just run around picking flowers and jumping off of high places and punching freaks and stuff

76 definitely got a huge buff thanks to the show. I constantly see new players leave the vault and it's not even rare to be the only high level on a server. It's fun. Can be a bit of a job since you as the only high level have to carry the entire server during the big public events but it's still fun as hell. :D

This is why I like to play FO76. Just randomly running around, collecting stuff, blowing things up, earning various currencies towards bullshit in my camp, etc.

Given that the intellectual powerhouse of the fanbase got fumbled by god drat arrows over the last couple of days, writing at a 4th grade level seems to be appropriate for them to understand whats happening.

I started playing 76 for the first time about 12 months ago and subscribed for a year up front pretty quickly. Once I acclimatized to 76's steep learning curve, I think it's absolutely a better game than Fallout 4 in almost every possible way*.

There's a huge learning curve to new players figuring out what to do, because there's absolutely so much being thrown at you so quickly: Story quests, item/ally unlock quests, faction quests, daily quests, events every 20 minutes, all while trying to figure out which weapons are good and learning the unique level-up / perk card system as you're exploring a completely new map four times larger than FO4s. It's a lot to take in, and 100% overwhelming.

But, once you figure out a weapon build, and learn the game loops and what repeatable events give beneficial rewards, you start to figure out what you want to do with your limited gaming time every day.

Fallout76 is absolutely my favorite Fallout game now, because there's always something to do.

*Except for the expense of the subscription/store items, and except for modding purposes.

I play since the Beta and of the four people I used to play with back then I'm the only one left. One of them made a bet with me when FO1st got announced. He claimed that this would be the nail in the coffin for the game, I disagreed. The bet was that, if, by some miracle, it went on without dying he'd pay my FO1st subscription for as long as the game lives. He lost. :D

Still playing, the game is still alive and it's improved so much over the years that I actually recommend it to people these days because it's extremely chill and the community is one of the least toxic I've ever met.

76 is not perfect but it's my fav FO game right after New Vegas. Nothing will ever replace New Vegas with the possible exception of New Vegas 2. lol

I started a couple of days ago. The first thing I heard stepping out of the Vault was an announcement about a nuclear launch detected but I didn't even get to see a mushroom cloud. Somebody kept running behind me and swinging at me with a baseball bat or something while I was talking to the starting quest giver.
