Civil War was made by a brit. He knows about America as much as I know about Brittan, which is just enough to draw the correct conclusions in a clumsy and hurtful way.

Reading the spoilers on the last scene kinda makes me wanna watch it in a sloppy kinda way tho ngl

do you have a name for this one im totally drawing a blank on what this could be unless youre talking about default which is a movie not a tv drama

i wonder what ozymandias discourse would be like if there had been scenes suggesting the bulk of his image was just good public relations and that he devoted the bulk of his mental energy to mastering the mostly useless catch a bullet trick

if nothing else there probably wouldnt be that whole subplot in the hbo show about him getting spermjacked

Looked into why Poor Things was called Poor Things and discovered that the book was way more expressly political (socialist and Scottish nationalist) and Yorgos just doesn't like being too political so he cut it all out

He still needed her to discover poverty as a plot device though so that part still happened, it just didn't have as much impact as in the book

I'm glad the Scottish nationalism didn't make it into the movie but more socialism would have improved it ofc

can someone whos read the book confirm whether scottish nationalism in this context is supposed to be like braveheart or if its more like trying to build an international economy entirely around golf course tourism

literally any work of fiction that pretends to be about the politics of a past era is actually about how that era is being interpreted contemporaneously

one way you can tell this is true is because hardly any historical popular culture discusses the papacy when until pretty recently it was the one thing people never ever shut up about

It's either that or something in his brain shattered in the last few years.

I liked "Men" but I also assumed while watching it that he was in on the joke and deliberately making it goofy as hell but maybe he meant it to be a clever, straight thriller and if that's the case he's lost

Garland usually underwhelms me but a war film stripped of its politics, especially american politics is probably the smarter move. i doubt its gonna be the next The Red and the White or anything though lol

I'm really curious to see whether his a-political take is the correct "it's the innocent civilians that get hosed in wars, that's why sides don't matter" or the much more hollywood lib "we've got more in common than we've got different and we just need to sit down and talk it out" bullshit

yeah, the positive reviews ive seen praise it for being completely uninterested in the politics, while the negative ones are calling it centrist. it could go either way.

Severance was similar but they're probably going to ruin it with another season and/or Walken will die before they wrap.

Space war is the worst subgenre of science fiction

Good science fiction should be 99% talking and 1% the main character having a breakdown because a living planet is replicating his dead wife but not maliciously... just because that's what it does.
