Most of the "open" areas in FF16 were still constrained by open world standards. The castle from the prologue was like a single stone wall and a courtyard and it still chugged horribly in Performance Mode. Looks like the real pandemic was a case of lazy devs!!

read somewhere that 16 took the better part of a decade to develop and I hope that was a misunderstanding. spending all those years to come up with an asura’s wrath clone with half the creativity and charm

Final Fantasy 16 apparently was the first Final Fantasy in a long time to have an audience that was more in their 16-25 demographic than the over 30 demographic, so whatever flaws it had it did exactly what they wanted it to do which is bring in new players.

I need to get back into 2077, it was decent enough but I think making the gear system basically entirely vestigial in 2.0 was a weird choice

All this stuff for fashion purposes and you can't even see your character. I like the game but I will still never forgive them for not adding a third person camera.

I think it was a fine choice. Imo gear doesn't even matter all that much in 2077 because the gameplay isn't all that deep and challenging. But the old gear system made people who obsessively min/max stuff stuck with looking stupid all the time. The improved skill trees more than make up for it. All of that poo poo was just nonsense at launch.

I feel like "mixmaxing so you look as stupid as possible" is honestly perfectly in line with Cyberpunk fashion trends.

Managing stats and the RPG systems in cyberpunk was one of the worst parts of the game imo. It got much better once you hit max level, locked in a set of skills and just switched out gun types because everything that drops is the rarest type and equally good. It was fussy in a way that felt ambiguous and disconnected - I think because in the hectic experience of firefights it's pretty much impossible to keep track of what any of your stats are even doing.

is it weird that my brain is fine with the concept of gear when it's medieval fantasy but once it goes into contemporary or sci fi it doesn't jive with me at all? Like, "oh a +1 breastplate. They must have put some extra leather in there or maybe a wizard did something to it. Works for me!" But the second you tell me a baseball cap reduces bleed damage I'm like "how does a baseball cap do that?!"

They had already fixed the Fashion Souls problem though, there was a previous patch that added the ability to select cosmetic outfits. I'm just saying, it feels kind weird to exit the prologue and already have the three guns you're going to use for the entire game.

I love Cyberpunk but to this day I will maintain it's a terrible RPG. It should have just functioned closer to an action open world game imo. That's why I think it was a good move to downplay that stuff in 2.0 and work on making the skill tree better since it's the only thing that really matters.

Also, I'm mainly talking about the weapons, not actual wearable equipment, which I agree was too much originally. Random stats on random drops got exhausting.

Arist posted:They had already fixed the Fashion Souls problem though, there was a previous patch that added the ability to select cosmetic outfits. I guess it depends on what your looking for but there's basically no scenario in a shooter where I want guns to be good based on levels and stats. If I headshot a guy I want him to go down in one hit. If I'n landing body shots I don't want to watch a health bar slowly plink away because my gun isn't powerful enough. I think modifiers are much more interesting than loving with base damage to get a sense of progression. Picking up a gun in a game should be fun cause maybe it uses explosive ammo, or has a unique scope or alt fire or whatever. If it's just upping stats so it doesn't take obnoxiously long to kill enemies that's super boring to me. Also I hate when I like a gun but have to ditch it because it's not up to my level.

I bought Phantom Liberty a few weeks ago with the full intent of starting another Cyberpunk play through, but I've been so caught up in Balatro and Solium Infernum and starting New Vegas for the first time that the idea of putting down my Steam Deck and touching the PS5 is completely out the window.

Consoles should be shaped like a chimney for maximum airflow and needing less noisy fans. Then they should put a roof on top to prevent spills from damaging it. Then make the roof flat so you can stack your games or a drink on there
