A law talkin' guy thinks Trump blew up his own defense this morning:

The gist is that by shouting his lies to reporters in the hallway, prosecutors can basically admit and then use that statement to demonstrate the crime while the defense is forced to try to show that it's accurate.

Not that I think this will have a significant effect on the trial or its outcome, and Trump's other public statements probably already opened him up to this kind of thing. It's just another examle of how Trump is always fuckingnup everything.

It's also a great illustration of how Trump simply doesn't understand that he did anything wrong. Or if he does, he's compartmentalized it so thoroughly is his narcissist brain that just trying to get him to even admit defeat once he's been sentenced will be completely futile.

"I just paid the money! Like I was supposed to! What is it with you people? First you tell me I have to pay my bills. Then you get all mad at me for paying the bills. WHICH IS IT HUH??"

It's to the point where if his lawyers were smart they would declare Trump incompetent to stand trial

Justice Thomas returns to Supreme Court after 1-day absence

WASHINGTON (AP) — Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is back on the bench after an unexplained one-day absence.

Thomas, 75, was in his usual seat, to the right of Chief Justice John Roberts as the court met to hear arguments in a case about the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.

Thomas has ignored calls from some progressive groups to step aside from cases involving Jan. 6 because his wife, Ginni, attended then-President Donald Trump’s rally near the White House before protesters descended on the Capitol. Ginni Thomas, a conservative activist, also texted senior Trump administration officials in the weeks after the election offering support and reiterating her belief that there was widespread fraud in the election.

On Monday, Roberts announced Thomas’ absence, without providing an explanation. Justices sometimes miss court, but participate remotely. Thomas did not take part in Monday’s arguments.

He was hospitalized two years ago with an infection, causing him to miss several court sessions. He took part in the cases then, too.

Thomas is the longest serving of the current justices, joining the Supreme Court in 1991.

That's the thing that confuses me about Trump as a brand. Has the populous at large ever seen anything with his name on it being truly of high quality? It seems to me that Trump has always been a symbol of imitation luxury, and that only rubes who couldn't tell the difference were the ones believing it to be a mark of quality.

A lot of his branded ideas have been public failures, though this is apparently easily ignored by his most devoted followers. Was there ever any attempt to really make the Trump brand a quality mark? If not and it truly is a grift for the ignorant, why would they think a new Trump tech company with nothing of value to offer would generate revenue?

Have the scammers scammed themselves, or am I somehow being scammed?

Like in Victor/Victoria, when Julie Andrews is disguising herself as the Prince, a male drag queen: "They'll know he's a phony". "Precisely! They'll know HEEEEEEE'S a phony!!"

Why would they be making such a big deal about one of his casinos going under or his steak company tanking if it weren't a craaaaazy aberration?

That's the winning narrative they went with over and over and over, and nobody ever cottoned on that it was not just a series of aberrations but the entirety of his story. There'd be nothing to sell the public if it were just an incompetent self-aggrandizing narcissist who inherited a bunch of money and then squandered it on an inept crime-boss career

they went with it because Trump had personal relationships with a lot of people in media and often acted as his own source in a lot of these stories, which allowed him to sell the idea of being a rich and successful guy to NBC

the guy who actually wrote the Art of the Deal book talked a lot about this in 2016, the gist of it is he thinks his entire business empire is a lie and strongly regrets perpetuating that narrative
