Arcade makes it his life’s mission to help Fantastic turn his theoretical degree into a real one; ends up playing out like a post-apocalyptic version of this: https://youtu.be/-Gp1kVAEFAI?si=nxbJkg9f3xQ5O26y (You have to ignore the fact that Benny is the one doing the teaching for this analogy to work)

The concept of ghouls needing to take medicine to stop themselves going feral makes me mad but also it makes the kid in the fridge from Fallout 4 even more incomprehensible.

It's annoying because it seems like it was purely created as a plot fudge for episode 4. The ghoul is going to trade something he has as part of the plot, but wait what's he going to trade for? Money? He's a remorseless killer, he can just mug someone if he wants money. OK, so what if he needs something, like medicine. Would a ghoul get sick? Our lore says they heal instantly from anything, he can't have a chronic pain disorder or something. Well ghouls turn feral, right? What if he's turning feral but there's a medicine that can stop it? OK cool, and maybe these guys synthesize it for him, so he trades to them for it. And it's thematic as well, because he tells Lucy she's inevitably going to become a monster like him, then at the end she tells him she'll never become a monster. And the whole time he's trying to stop himself literally becoming a monster! Then he takes a bunch of it and gets drunk and it's never mentioned again

Ghouls talk about arthritis, at least. They could've set it up as to why he wants this drug from the raiders, it's never clear exactly what it is, and at the end of the episode Lucy could've asked some surviving raider "what is this even?" and he says it's basically just for joint pain. Boom, punchline, roll credits. Altogether the show was really joyless and unfun! Like even its attempts at humor were kind of juvenile, and their idea of making Lucy naive and optimistic really just made her seem like a child. Better than most video game adaptations, but that's not a high bar to clear.

I watched Big Beak Entertainment's recent video on New Vegas and he made a salient point that I can't believe it never struck me before now about just how much the war in the Mojave mirrors the buildup to the Great War. Everyone is on edge and waiting for the other shoe to drop, there's this ever-present anxiety and apprehension around what will happen once the battle begins and what will come after it ends. It's two nation states that want to believe they're clashing over ideologies but in reality it's a fight over resources, Hoover Dam itself. Society has built itself back up from the ashes of the old world and it is on the brink of repeating the same actions that led to destruction. The 2nd Battle of Hoover Dam is the Great War all over again and the jury is still out on whether the outcome will be the same or if the mailman will be there on time. replaying NV because of the show. (with Viva New Vegas bug fixes and the basic gameplay section, no overhauls or visuals) pretty stoked on this energy weapons / unarmed crit build I planned out, so I figured I would share it S - 4 (+1 implant, +2 OWB, + weapon handling late game for effectively 9) P - 5 (+1 implant for better criticals by 16) E - 7 (allows S,P,E,I,A,L + subdermal implants, get to 8 before level 30 for implant GRX) C - 4 (I don't really like totally dumping charisma, and it isn't necessary. I don't have frontal lobe damage. plus I think VNV uses the charisma / 2 = follower count thing) I - 5 (+1 implant, lets you pass any intelligence check with mentats and one of the +1 int armors if you want. most are only 7 so mentats alone would work. plenty of skill points, but not gonna get everything to 100) A - 7 (+1 implant for tunnel runner. if you don't care about tunnel runner, 6+1 for slayer is fine) L - 8 (+1 implant, naughty nightwear to clean out casinos, lucky shades if you want to get 10 early or wait until you get the strip rep duster from lonesome road) skilled, built to destroy (you don't need to do the character remake exploit to double the skilled bonus to hit requirements, but you can) tag: repair (to get light touch at level 2), science (to boost science for vigilant recycler at level 6), energy weapons ( you could do unarmed instead, I just think not having ANY ranged skill in the beginning kinda sucks) the requirements for unarmed and energy weapon perks are hella steep, so you have to bum rush them early. and don't forget about survival and sneak for travel light / silent running. I did plan it out on a planner and you will have the skill points if you don't gently caress around. you can probably put 5 in repair for weapon repair kits, or just read a magazine and make a shitload 2 - light touch - ag 6 repair 45 (crit is good, and the reduced chance to crit from enemies is gravy) 4 - educated - in 4 (I think you could drop this for something else and still hit all the requirements by the right levels, but I didn't actually test it) 6 - vigilant recycler - science 70 (gonna be using a rifle that uses two shots + optimized ammo is good. if you don't care about this, get a rank of toughness) 8 - travel light - survival 45 (gotta go fast. if you don't care about this or just don't want to rush the survival skill and get it later, get a rank of toughness or maybe super slam) 10 - finesse (crit is good) 12 - piercing strike - unarmed 70 (your unarmed attacks ignore armor) 14 - silent running - ag 6 sneak 50 (huge boost to sneaking, not such a big deal if you play with a controller. if you don't care about this you could do something else. most obvious choice would be jury rigging, but I doubt you could hit 90 repair and still hit 90 energy weps for meltdown at 20) 16 - better criticals - per 6 luck 6 (crits are good) 18 - paralyzing palm - unarmed 70 (you can stun poo poo for THIRTY SECONDS) 20 - meltdown - energy weapons 90 (on kill explosions are badass) 22 - laser commander - energy weapons 90 (+damage and +crit on laser weapons) 24 - slayer - ag 7 unarmed 90 (can attack real fast) 26 - tunnel runner - ag 8 (gotta go fast. if you don't care about that pick whatever you feel like) 28 - weapon handling (lets you meet the 9 strength requirement for ballistic fist to dick around late game) 30 - implant GRX (non-addictive turbo) 32 - implant GRX (non-addictive turbo) by this point you are gonna be god of the mojave, and you'll be dumping skill points into whatever extra skills you want. go hog wild. I put these here because they're generically good for anything. especially toughness 34 - toughness 36 - toughness 38 - action girl 40 - action girl gear hat - boone's hat for crit armor - any light armor -> joshua graham's armor -> ulysses duster / strip rep duster glasses - lucky shades if you want to cozy up to the legion a little bit. not necessary. you can get the legion rep for these without pissing off the NCR by turning in NCR dog tags and doing a few quests the NCR don't know about rifle - prototype laser rifle from vault 22 (plenty of options here, this one crits a lot and the green beams look cool with meltdown) pistol - MF hyperbreeder alpha (doesn't use ammo, IS affected by the laser commander perk unlike regular recharger pistol. honestly this wep is so good you could just use it for everything) fist weapon - love and hate (I just think they're cool, and you can get them early with a low STR requirement. lots of good power fists in the game, but remember at the beginning you'll have relatively low strength for handling requirements) other things to consider: have 50 unarmed when you meet caesar to learn the unarmed attack from his lackey. don't go into the fiend vault until you do all the khan drug quests, or you'll miss the chance to get the khan trick unarmed attack the only thing this build doesn't have that kinda sucks is points for early lockpicking, but it is what it is hawowanlawow fucked around with this message at 15:11 on Apr 19, 2024 |

I love making builds for New Vegas. I'd play a game where you just type in a build and then it tells you how far that character got before being killed. Your build is great, but I think you should add Super Slam at some point. The odds are calculated separately from Paralyzing Palm, so you'll be knocking down or paralyzing enemies more reliably. I'm not a big fan of Vigilant Recycler. When you're using a gun that shoots two MFC at a time, you have a 70% chance of recovering one drained cell, and you need three of those to make a new cell. For every 1,000 optimized MFC that you should, you can make 78 new ones. The Overcharge cells you can craft do 95% as much damage, so I usually don't bother with Vigilant Recycler. Also, I don't think Weapon Handling matters at all for unarmed weapons. The strength requirements don't do anything for those.

I already dumped quite a few points in science, but probably would have put some there eventually anyway would still need weapon handling to transition to the 8 str requirement heavy weapons super late game - not a whole lot else to do at that point e: nevermind - super slam has 6 ST requirement. a fresh version could always just dump more CH... if you have frontal lobe damage hawowanlawow fucked around with this message at 19:35 on Apr 19, 2024 |

First ep of Fallout TV is great. Made me want to play a Fallout 5 right then and there. As fun as it is to dropkick Bethesda writing(which I limited myself to doing for the NCR discussion) there's still something that just draws you in. It helps that they clearly had a blast making this and the writers are a bit brave, sneaking in Rimworld-rear end details. I do owe myself a New Vegas playthrough. Lucy's cute as a button too, lmao at these nerds needing to AI a triple-sized rear end onto her to be attracted. Doomykins fucked around with this message at 01:39 on Apr 22, 2024 |
