Everyone seems so blasé about everything that happens in this strip. Guy attacked in a hanger? Leaves some evidence, but the saboteur reveals himself before there's anything done. Attempted murder by the jealous saboteur that resulted in the destruction of one jet and a near destruction of a second, and they're just "Well, don't have to worry about that guy now. Also here's some improvements we can do with the prototype."

That third panel of the first comic just makes it. It's still funny if you remove it, but that panel included just makes it top tier.

Toonerville Folks (September 18-20, 1922)

Dok's Dippy Dynasty (March 9, 1915, timg'd for a premise that gives me a twitchy eye.)

A brief footnote (and confirmation of where this is supposed to be taking place).

Anyway, here's a fine state of affairs. On February 12, 1940, the Daily Worker sports page is giving us what we've been assured is still Little Lefty...

Then it takes another one of those weirdly scheduled days off and when the strip comes back on the 14th, we've been informed that we're now reading something called Adventures of Marmaduke. What this means about the fate of social realism in Depression-era comic strips, I guess we're about to find out.

Bonus 1944 thing I forgot this morning.

The patriarchy is snickering here, but if the wartime feds were selling tires and pipe tobacco, the coverage would be as serious as a heart attack.
