The thing about being a landlord is, typically you don't have to be. If you're youngish, you can sell your extra property which will give you the time and resources to find something to pay the bills that isn't landlording. If you're old, you can sell your extra property which will give you enough money for the rest of your life (if the rent was going to do the same). The cases where it is potentially necessary are where you're on the very edge of 'old' (e.g.: 60) where you might legitimately expect to be around for longer than a house sale could keep you going for, or if you're letting out part of your actual residence because you need the money, in which case sure. For everyone else, complaining about it is like someone volunteering for a job and then bitching about it, only instead of being charity work or something the job is one that is in aggregate harming society. So while I'm not suggesting that the OP necessarily has it easy, I am suggesting that sympathy is limited because they could just loving stop. Just loving stop.

Do you all have that problem that sometimes when you check your investments the number hasn't gone up? Like normally it does as I check it rarely enough that the money has enough time to breed and make more money. Saw it while doing taxes and it almost hit x million but I think it went down since then. I just thought we could all commiserate on our shared suffering.
