Crain posted:You're right in the sense that yes, it's all made up from a skeptics point of view. But the primary audience for this stuff isn't skeptics, it's believers. If you're marketing to believers you have to conform to certain tropes and expectations. You see this all the time, maybe without realizing it: The random "tools" they use to "detect" ghosts, the kind of locations, how the ghosts behave, what they can and can't do, etc. That is the easy content however. You just go to an "established" haunted house and film, do the rituals with the emf readers and poo poo, and react to a shadow or comment on how the room just got cold. And the audience both wants to see that, and is already bored by it. Like the Winchester House; you basically have to eventually film there, but once you do you're done and you have to find a way to make it interesting. Just like true crime, ghost content believers want the tension of an actual person who actually died to make it interesting to them. That's where you start getting the bleed over between the two eventually, and the really gross content, like "psychics" or hunters approaching real people who have lost loved ones and trying to "contact" them from beyond. You can still make that up, but people will look up the people involved to see if it was real and if it isn't, they'll turn on you and you're done. We're talking past each other, my argument is that it's the ghosthunters that are the problem, because they're lame and stupid, you're saying that's the ghosthunting itself that's the problem. But it isn't! If someone goes through all that work, they'd make awesome content, and the rubes would never need to know! Now that I think of it, if you do the same thing with truecrime, isn't that just making horror short films and pretending they're real?  I take it back. If done entirely by fiction, both truecrime and ghosthunting are fine. But people should be forbidden by threat of execution by anvils from involving real people and history in this poo poo.

resetera's had multiple minority poster exoduses leaving only the whitest liberals imaginable. right now they're having a palestinian poster exodus because they banned a poster from palestine for complaining about the new york times. which for some reason the administration decided was an alt-right thing to do. gotta protect famous left wing periodical 'the new york times'

Caught on doorbell cameras and the like. He eventually revealed it was a hoax and thought people would find the little "narrative" he made entertaining and give him props for his effort. People were loving PISSED and doxxing him and just going out of their way to let the world know he's a "dirty loving liar". I wanna say he had to move and change all his information cause of the hate he got. Guy did not realize that a lot of people don't watch paranormal videos for entertainment, but instead for validation.

But Forspoken had a bunch of idiots fixated on the cringey quips. So things like how the writers were primarily white, and they had at most some BIPOC intern "consultants" give feedback on the game, slid through the cracks. The whole thing was shallow posturing, like the full ban on Hogwarts Legacy while people spotted some of the ResetEra mod team actively playing that game on Steam.

the hogwarts legacy drama was amazing because everyone forgot that game existed two weeks after it came out so a bunch of people just went insane for literally no reason. a big ff14 streamer said she HAD TO STREAM IT and compared people politely asking her not to to the war in ukraine and said she would not be cancelled by 'people trying to control women,' streamed it for two hours once, then never mentioned it again, losing like 50% of her viewerbase in the process. ftw
