Any recommendations for someone who is super short? Family member is 4'9", works from home, is constantly having to choose between having their feet on the floor or their arms level with the desk. Have already put in a sit/stand desk. Is this a situation where a chair with the leg/footrests might be a good idea?

If you don't want to buy another desk, then yeah, try out a foot rest.

I haven't used it personally, but I've got an aeron b which also goes pretty low (14.8 apparently) but the arm rests might be too wide spaced or something because somethin just doesn't feel quite right with for me, so I'm hesitating a bit on personally seeking out an A in case the arm rest is more of a style/shape issue, but it was definitely easier to get my feet flat. Feels like most chairs' lower adjustment is around 16in, and I've been having a hard time finding other options with low seats but still have good other adjustments - SteelCase's Leap V2 lets the seat go down to 15.5, but then the arm rests don't seem like they adjust all that low, particularly compared to HM's Embody or Aeron. Speaking of, the Embody has a lower adjustment cylinder that brings it down to 15in, but that needs to be special ordered, and I found with the regular 16in cylinder that it somehow felt "higher" then my Steelcase Series 1 which has a lowest adjust of 16.5.

Replaced the Steelcase Think I bought used in 2011 with a Mirra 2 with all the options (butterfly fabric back, lumbar support, seat tilt, seat depth, hard floor and carpet combo castors) and paid £830 inc. VAT and delivery.

I copped. It's fine. Still figuring out the knobs. Seat is quite comfy. However LOL at paying 2 grand for this. It's mostly plastic and not particularly well made. Hail to the masters.

The profit margin is huge, but I guess patents/trademarks have kept competition from creating a chair as good / more comfortable than the HMs for cheaper. If there was a ~$500 Aeron or Embody, that was a good step up from office max options, I think it would sell well, but it doesn’t exist. Either you can spend 2-300 bucks on garbage, or 1000+ on HM.

I spent $1500 on my gaming Embody and I'd do it again without batting an eye. I was really on the fence about it at first, but now I have to admit it's probably some of the best money I've ever spent.

Big Chair pricing comes in part from better materials (like the padding that actually lasts 10+ years instead of two), expensive shipping (it's a massive box, not flat packed), and enterprise contracts that order a hundred units at list price because it's just another line in their budget. That last one is particularly important, because they'll happily give you a discount if you talk with a representative at any time of the year. Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more on

Are you ignoring the fact its built like a tank, and comes with a decade warranty? Those lovely OfficeMax chairs die in like 18-24 months, and still cost 250-300~ for a decent one. Why would you want to spend 300 every 2~ years, instead of 1500, once for like 15 years? I bought a slightly used Nightengale HD247 (Canadian chair maker, ergo chair, for fatasses like myself) from the suppliers outlet, and I've had it for 10 years now. It still feels mostly new, which is not something I've ever been able to say about a chair from a big box store. The chair new should have been like 1200 CAD, I got it for 550~. 55/year for a chair is a steal, and considering its still great I'm going to imagine its going to last another 5-10 at least.

And on top of that, while those cheaper chairs may feel good to sit in briefly, they will destroy your back if you are in them 8+ hours a day.

While I feel the HM price is high, it’s basically at a fine level where it’s not completely obnoxious, and you do get value from it like the non-worthless warranty. At that price range, I believe the general recommendation is to find the $1,500 chair used for $500-600 from somewhere. Certified refurbished, office overstock, etc.

You can usually get an Alera Elusion off Amazon for around $250. $600 won't buy you any better a chair than that. There really is nothing worthwhile between the $250 tier and the $1250 tier.

There are tons of used office places reselling old stuff, especially if you're in a larger metro area. I'm not saying don't buy the big box office chair if thats you're only realistic option, but start saving or come up with a plan to finance the fancier chair. Also, you might be able to walk out with a show room model for a lot less (without as much fancy warranty) if you're willing to go into a place and chat up a dude.

I had one of those Serta office chairs, and it was great for a few years until the upholstery fell apart. What are some comparable chairs that are reasonably durable? Also, has anyone else had any experience with the OSIM gaming/massage chairs? There's on Craigslist near me for about 40% of the normal price.

Well I am giving it a good sit for the first time. Seems weird to me and not particularly adjustable. Only the whole seat itself can tilt, you can't adjust the back from the seat pan seperately? The lever on the back left that unlocks or locks the full range of tilt feels like a janky piece of garbage that can break at any moment. the 2k sticker price is a laughing stock. Is this truly the chair of the masters as was foretold?

I watched the video on how to adjust it on herman millers site. It says the front pan of the seat should be 3 inches from the back of your knees. At full adjustment I can't get it that close. I am basically a smol bean at 5'10''. How do the height masters deal with this mess.?

If you’re experiencing numbness after a relatively short period of sitting, you might be sitting poorly or legit might have a circulation issue? Your experience doesn’t match with the norm described by the thread and that’s okay! I’m 6’3” (33” inseam) and sitting properly isn’t an issue (knees 3in from the edge of the seat does require rolling the seat shorter) and sitting in the seat for hours is great. Find what’s right for you, buddy.

I had some mild discomfort after sitting in the Embody for over an hour for the first week or so, but it turned out it was from me actually starting to sit correctly instead of being slouched down in it like some kind of gremlin. That said full on numbness is not normal and either the chair doesn't work for you, it has a broken/defective part, or needs to be better adjusted.

Got an Aeron A, but also having a "jeeze, 2000$ chair?" moment because there's a noticeable seam along the edge of the seat frame that my leg will scrape against if I bring it close or when i'm going to sit down. What's weird is it's not there/not noticeable on the second hand older model Aeron B I have. Dunno if they were just sloppy with my chair, but kinda worried its just a change in how they make the chair and is going to be generally present. Back when I was trying the Embody I remember one of the arm rests had a bit of a seam or what felt like excess plastic along the edge of the arm rest, which was by no means a big deal, but did kind a feel a bit sloppy for a 2 grand chair.
