This thread is just a cavalcade of psychic damage, but every single aspect of this song (and its accompanying video featuring a cameo by Shifty Shellshock of Crazytown) is a loving nightmare for me; Fergie's vocals in particular feel like a razor blade on teeth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRzMtlZjXpU Top comment on the video: linkinparkrulz2275 posted:My younger brother committed suicide last weekend by overdosing on something. He was found with headphones on, presumably listening to something. This is his youtube account. He made a playlist containing 6 songs that was edited the day he passed. This is one of the 6 songs. With the method he used, he was dead after about 30 minutes, probably unconscious around 12 minutes. I like to think that it was peaceful for him with his music on. I love you Myles, I'll miss you everyday for the rest of my life.

...not really super popular or a massive hit but holy poo poo Hot Action Cop. Some of you might remember 'em from Need for Speed:Hot Pursuit but that version of Fever for the Flavor was censored to the point of basically a full rewrite except for the weird offhand line about having neon underglow. The original is more into a different sort of Hot Pursuit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnrXhiPRFzw Kinda hooky if unimaginative Nu-Metal but with the hypersexed lyrical content of the Dirty South, it was all meant to be very tongue-in-cheek (take your pick of which and whose cheeks your tongue is in though) but not enough to shake a cringey fratboy vibe that has not aged well at all.

I didn't realize what exactly "smooth jazz" was until fairly recently when landing on a radio station in search of non-distracting filler music. Closest thing I can compare it to is the background music of the local forecasts on the Weather Channel in the 90s. I was a little dumbfounded that this was an actual genre of music with its own radio stations and top 10 request countdowns and everything. Before any potential smooth jazz fans out there take offense, I can't in good conscience claim it was "bad" and it did in fact serve my needs in the moment, but I confess for a bit there part of me felt profoundly embarrassed at it. I felt like it was music for people who hate music; like Michael Bolton would've been too hard and edgy for this scene. Also at first I thought all the tracks were from the 80s before realizing most of them were pretty new. Whether I should be embarrassed for being a snobby judgmental rear end in a top hat over something deliberately inoffensive or if I should be embarrassed for actually consistently listening to this blandest radio station ever for several days in a row (or for writing this dumb pointless post about it when nobody could possibly care), I was probably right to be embarrassed.

Mulaney Power Move posted:just don't confuse "smooth jazz" with "cool jazz" (e.g., the Paul Desmond Quartet) because cool jazz is actually cool I can't believe I forgot to mention the most confounding thing for me about Smooth Jazz: it's not jazz!? I don't mean "it's not REAL jazz "or anything like that. I'm just pretty sure it's literally not jazz music. 90% of it is, like, 80s adult contemporary but without vocals and scrubbed of anything that can be described as "passion" or "emotion," and the other 10% you might get away with describing as "jazzy" insofar as it has a saxophone in it. It's actually hard to find quick examples on youtube because so many videos are merely describing jazz music as smooth rather than demoing Smooth Jazz as a genre or category or whatever. I'm serious with the 90s Weather Channel comparison. This sounds like what that station might've played on their friday night party mix show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Be5R10zTbMY

The right answer is: "I took a pill in Ibiza." To understand how pathetic that song is, you need to go through a history of that song, the previous song, and reviews of it to fully grasp the gravity of patheticness . 1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqWq_48LxWQ - the first hit 2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLnMIc8jNQo - the review 3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foE1mO2yM04 - the remix 4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAQExHJHqc0 - the review 5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41GZVVcxQps - the actual song mazzi Chart Czar fucked around with this message at 20:39 on Apr 28, 2024 |

My vote is You Get What You Give by New Radicals, mostly because I happened to be watching MTV one night when they were debuting the song and they ran a whole interrview with the singer guy who clearly believed himself to be new and radical. MTV was presenting this thoroughly ball-less whitebread tune as some kind of revolutionary statement about pop culture that came off so lame to me that I wondered if I was watching a Christian rock video. That video with clean cut youths rampaging through a mall and mosh-pitting in slo motion herding terrified suit wearing squares into dog kennels because they can’t handle how alternative the kids are. When he smirks at the camera to deliver the line “come around we’ll kick your rear end in” to rhyme with Hanson and Marylin Manson like he’d just said the cleverest naughtiest thing in the world. The whole thing just about made me cringe out of my chair. Of course now I like the song. It’s pleasant. I literally say “aww” when it comes on. https://youtu.be/DL7-CKirWZE?si=8UsIto2HA85WKNZM

John Coltrane’s “Chasin’ The Trane”, gently caress off with this poo poo. Just because you’re drugged out of your mind and forgot to bring a piano player to your live recording sesh, plus you’ve just became bffs with a dude fascinated by imitating birds on a flute, you’re having the whole room in a catatonic state by blasting looping out of rhythm aharmonic “solos”. Avantgarde? More like avant-non!

The line "age 14, they got you down on your knees" is extremely creepy when the singer looks like he's in his late 30s. Also what does that mean? Oh no they won't let 14 year olds do whatever they want? The injustice! Also poo poo talking a bunch of bands at the time for being successful and comparing them to Courtney love is really lovely and sounds more like jealousy than anything else.
