Hawthorne Heights is playing a show here with Thursday, Anberlin, Armor for Sleep, Emery and This Wild Life in August. I've never been into Hawthorne Heights, but I was just listening to Armor for Sleep the other day. Should I go just for them? I do like Anberlin too.

I haven't cared for Hawthorne Heights since their second album, but I'd slam down money to see Thursday and/or Armor for Sleep.

OH SNAP!
Are there any bands still making that late 2000s hardcore sound like Ruiner, The Carrier, Life Long Tragedy, Verse and all of those bands? Haven't really listened to much new hardcore in a long time but I'm getting back into it and trying to find some new stuff that I actually like. Even bands that are even kind of similar I'm down to try. Thanks fellow olds

Sunny Day Real Estate's new 30th anniversary live re-recording of Diary is out now. Obviously it's not gonna sound identical to the original, but wow, it sounds really loving good so far. In fact, I honestly think I may prefer it to the original because of the differences. The drums in particular sound especially excellent here.

Hi can I :justpost: skramz related stuff here?
Quite an interesting take on the genre, opens with polka-esque before turning to some heavy hitting skramz.
Wow that sounds terrible you say? I thought the same but I was wrong. The video rules too by the way.

Yeah it’s really good. The original still hits a little harder in my opinion but the the version sounds great. Echoing what the other poster said, go see them if you get the chance. I also saw them last fall and it was my favorite show of the whole year. I have tickets to this Sunday’s Boston show and I’m absolutely pumped.

This one's hitting me pretty hard. EA forums was my hangout before I came here, and it's been great seeing him pop up more often recently for interviews and geeky gear demos. He was responsible for the soundtrack for a lot of my life, both from his own music and the poo poo he recorded. Some pretty significant moments of life were attached to Shellac shows, but he always came across like a cool, approachable dude. And lately, a great example of self-reflection and coming to terms with an rear end in a top hat Past. Just recently introduced a friend to his music, and he went "where has this BEEN my whole life?" Always secretly wished I could get any of my bands out to Chicago and record something at EA.

Still doesn't feel real.

Yeah it sucks so bad. So much of what he worked on sounded exactly how that band should sound because he knew how to record. I'm so glad I've seen Shellac a couple of times and talked to him once and insanely sad he isn't going to be around to play their new material.

I consider myself incredibly lucky that I got to see Shellac on what was their last Australian tour back in 2015, and that was the third time they ever came to the country. I was really hoping they'd come back after To All Trains is released.

Just sitting here at the office with a hole in my heart.

I saw Shellac during the 1000 Hurts tour when Steve was still in Full rear end in a top hat mode. My best friend at the time went up to him after the set and said he liked the show. Steve’s response was, “that’s nice.”

To him, and I agreed, what a life affirming experience to be dismissed by Steve Albini.

The shift from Classic rear end in a top hat on 1000 Hurts to the playful goofiness of Excellent Italian Greyhound is kind of surreal if you listen to them back-to-back.

I can’t remember where exactly I read about Albini (might’ve been in the Leftover Crack book?) but I was familiar with him (and followed him on Twitter). Out of curiosity, I looked up a list of albums he produced and apart from the most well-known ones, a few stuck out to me, mainly Screaming Females’ Ugly and Rose Mountain. Those are their two best albums imo and a huge part of why was the production value. He was able to capture the pure essence of their sound perfectly on those albums.

I saw that Songs About loving was trending on Apple Music this morning, I will definitely check that out.

Les Savy Fav's new record came out on Friday, and it's great. Sounds like it would fit in pretty neatly in the The Cat and the Cobra / ROME (written upside down) / Go Forth era. I'm a pretty big fan, and outside of Appetites, Root for Ruin didn't do much for me, so this is a nice change.

The mix is really bad. Andrew went on a podcast and clarified a few things:

- Jon is the front man. Always has been.
- He basically couldn't say no when they asked him to step up.
- These are the only two tracks they've recorded. No full album scrapped after Tilian like people we're speculating
- Think of it like Secret Band + Andrew
- Lots of Room for collaboration (Kurt & Johnny even) for that third voice
