Here in Virginia we managed to pull in a large enough crowd that the cops backed away from their threat to clear the encampment. We're sure it will happen eventually, but for now the crowd is holding strong with like, maybe 100 in a ring with locked arms daring them to arrest everyone. Another day of seeing Jews for Palestine, but no Palestinians for Israel.

it is pretty funny to see influencer journalists just get shut down. I guess we're finally at the point where not only are students drawing on past protests for organization ideas but they've all grown up with social media and know exactly how easy it is to just pick out a weirdo in a crowd of protestors in order to discredit the whole movement. They've got designated media people and those media people set standards for access and aren't all trying to get selfies in and/or go viral themselves.

Holy poo poo this is what I get for only reading my bookmarked threads, had no idea we had a thread here! Our local school started a protest encampment last Friday and the group I've been organizing with since o7 has been helping them out with it. So far the university admin HAD been supportive but just this evening they asked the students to move somewhere else because where they are right now is where frat tabling happens. They're not going to move and so I'm expecting an eviction. We had already been talking with them about maybe doing a Passover Seder there, so an idea I had was to hold it right before any expected eviction for optics. This was earlier today, my group who normally holds a protest downtown every Sunday moved the protest to the encampment in solidarity

These protests kind of highlight for me how different poo poo feels with Israel now. Before there might have been some protests after Israel increased its genocide, a rumbling of people calling them anti-Semitic, and then theyd fizzle out while those in power give bullshit excuses and rebuttals to the facts they bring up. This time the state skipped directly to violence, like Israel is so clearly monsterous they cant offer any more flimsy excuses to cover for it, so their only option is suprresion and intimidation. There isnt really anyway for this to go back to the way things were for Israel in the states no matter how much the media screeches about how its all just antisemitism. Everyone Ive spoken with doesnt buy it now where maybe five years ago theyd go along with it
