Even if the US openly objected and stopped supplying bombs, Israel is more than capable and produces its own weapons and wiping out the Palestinians is, at this point, a key goal of the Israeli government.

No amount of US opposition is going to stop that, at best it would make them hesitate, but its a good reason to make it such a blunder for the Israeli government that they basically gut future relations with the United States.

We could at least stop giving them missile defense systems. Let them reap what they sow. Shooting down 99% of incoming projectiles is pretty good US aid, imho.

Honestly, rather than “gently caress [person]” it’s “gently caress All of Congress”. Congress is a complete loving poo poo show and can’t get anything done, and that’s what’s killing the country. I’m still loving pissed that the PPP loan forgiveness horseshit was abused by multiple members of Congress and the GOP while they crow about blocking/cutting entitlements. I’m pissed that shithole states like Nebraska and Texas were able to sue and stop stuff like the student loan forgiveness programs and women’s loving healthcare thanks to gerrymandering and a corrupt Senate installing a corrupt SCOTUS.

I'm not going to get into specifics, but I feel that "I won't vote miquetoast mainstream politician who will likely maintain the status quo or make small positive changes and if you do you are an imperialist" is a feature of every election in every liberal democracy that I've ever been aware of. Its the "oh, you probably haven't heard of them" of voting. I've grit my teeth and voted for the "least worst" option in every election since I was about 25, although admittedly, my least worst option (The SNP) have been pretty good.

That's not to say that the positions people are taking aren't highly principled, they're just not unique to this election cycle. The stakes, however, are higher. We're not looking at Coke and Diet Coke differences in governance.

I can tell you from the perspective of anti-Bibi groups Biden is moving in the right direction (being a much more critical ally) and the interesting thing to me is how Qatar, Egypt and KSA stay engaged here.

Gee, I wonder what the source of this might be.

https://www.politico.com/news/2024/05/01/2024-election-poll-workers-00154953

quote:

Threats, harassment of election workers have risen, poll shows

More than a third of surveyed local election officials have experienced threats, harassment or abuse due to their jobs, according to a new poll released Wednesday.

The 38 percent of local election officials who reported mistreatment in the poll from the Brennan Center for Justice at the New York University School of Law marks an 8 percentage point uptick from the survey’s 2023 edition. The most common manner of receiving these threats occurred in person or over the phone.

Poll workers and their colleagues aren’t only worried about themselves — about a quarter of those surveyed said they’re concerned about their family or loved ones receiving threats or harassment in future elections.

In response to safety concerns, local election officials are leaving their jobs. Twenty-seven percent of respondents said they know one or two local election officials who have resigned over concerns about their well-being, almost a 10 percentage point increase from the 18 percent who said the same in 2023.

The high turnover seems likely to continue. Almost a quarter of local election officials will work their first presidential election in 2024, and 20 percent said they’re unlikely to continue serving in the 2026 midterms.

Sixty-two percent of respondents also voiced concerns about political leaders engaging in efforts to interfere in how election officials do their jobs.

It’s a charged issue this election season, as prosecutors in former President Donald Trump’s ongoing criminal trial aim to convince jurors that hush money was “election interference.” Trump has also been indicted in two election interference cases, one at the federal level and one in Georgia, for his actions following the 2020 general election.

The Brennan Center for Justice conducted the poll from Feb. 23 to March 28 with 928 respondents. There is a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

I generally hate to bring up the term 'manufactured consent', but this is definitely a case of it - the media isn't necessarily 'in cahoots' with the govt in that there's people mustache-twirling and saying hey let's join up with the govt to mislead the American people, but they have let the govt set the tone for how we talk about our relationship with both and followed suit, mimicking the govt position and refusing to challenge it. by following the lead of the govt in how they refer to and treat Palestine vs Israel, the media has reinforced the govt's messaging as the dominant narrative in the US and thus shored up support for the US policy in Israel with the wider American public.

So yeah, a lot of Americans really do think Palestinians = Hamas, because there's a giant machine to make sure they think that way. I am so so SO glad this is changing but my heart gets a little crushed worrying it'll just be an election issue and forgotten about as soon as they feel they've 'owned' Biden about this

As a live human being, I’m aware of how unimportant I —- and all other live individual human beings— are when compared to a beautiful idea. i hate the republicans for lowering the bar so much that we're stuck with far right and center right options, not the center right for being center right. if the republicans stopped voting "to own the libs" and started voting for people who actually do good things for them the bar for the democrats would be much higher.
instead we have one side that promises to kick you in the balls as hard as possible for no reason and the other side just has to sit back and promise not to kick you in the balls. maybe. sometimes. because what are you gonna do: vote to get kicked in the balls?
loving nevada had socialist win for the first time and the entire democratic party turned everything they had against them harder than they've ever done against a republican. because democrats have gotten lazy because the only other option is a kick in the balls.
