The gimmicky fuel throwing rocket launcher in ultrakill is actually pretty good. I can't seem to do anything with the electric sawblade and the chainsaw shotgun's whatever too

Beat Phantom Fury. My previous post still stands. Overall I enjoyed it quite a bit, despite its problems. Luckily, I don't think it has any real foundational flaws like Graven (well, aside from the wonky storytelling but....idk who cares that much about that?), so I think with some patches and tweaks it can be turned around. Now to wait for Cultic Chapter 2.

What were all the "killers"? You know, games that were hyped to both meet and exceed x game in quality and fun factor and then bury it in sales. Doom killer and quake killer seem the most notable but I remember PS2 killzone being hyped as a halo killer back when. I'm asking because I got Reaver recently and while I haven't played beyond the demo yet it seems kinda unfair that anyone could consider it an ultrakill-killer. Not that it's bad but because they clearly love the source material so

Outside of that games take so loving long to develop now by the time your knockoff of popular thing is out popular thing may already be naturally at end of life cycle anyway.

Off the top of my head I can also think of WH40K Firewarrior and Breed being given that curse.

The game (2nd on the series) was doing really well even on PC despite GFWL, but then lack of support and the announced death of said horrible GFWL killed it. I had a lot of fun with it and even had a nice horde mode that let you build defenses. Endgame PvP eventually became a weapon meta that didn't get balance driving the playerbase down.

I lament the death of BF1943, whichever was the XBLA exclusive one. Goddamn that was fun. And the sound was A+. I also had a soft spot for Breach, which I think was a multiplayer fps, also on xbla, that touted destructable environments, like BF. It came out around the same time Nexuiz did. I remember hoping THAT game would fill in the UT-sized shoes of arena mp shooter, but no. It didn't come close.

Pagb666 is doing a playthrough of PF and seems to be of the opinion it's just an ok shooter with jank. I still went with Pirate Doom 2 instead because excellent and free sounded better than $25 and mediocre.

The first proper Descent 3 source port is out! PiccuEngine, by the developer of the old InjectD3 hack, adds lots of much-needed quality of life features like windowed mode, widescreen support, FOV controls, 60fps support, and the return of graphical features that weren't implemented in OpenGL Mode. https://twitter.com/VinciusMedeiro6/status/1785834019168346419

Is Descent 3 a more...let's say, "even" experience than its predecessors. I've never actually beaten D1 or D2 because I found that they became way to punishing in the back half, and then Overload came out and was the idealized version of those games.

It's been a while, but I remember it being more "modern" for better and for worse. It attempts to have a narrative and different mission objectives and stuff to make the game about more than just shooting robots, with mixed results. Kind of a similar franchise arc to Doom now that I think about it.

Yeah the idea of doing two-stick (not stick + throttle) piloting in full 6DOF is appealing, I tried it once and it is not an easy thing to get into. I would imagine if you could get comfortable with it that it would be very compelling paired with a VR hat.
