as far as getting them, I really dig fractals, more than just doing dailies. I could run with you pretty much anytime or if you have a schedule I could pop on. t3-4 are lots of fun and if you have a lfg then people jump in pretty fast since normally people don't lfg them.

I suppose as a side thing, would people be into fractal runs like hour after reset? I could do them for a few hours most days and don't mind redoing most of them multiple times. I think Goonette is done by then and just want to see if people are into a night session to kick fractals and chill regularly. I've done a bunch of goon fractal groups and it's always a good time.

According to the wiki it takes cubes of dark energy to make conflux which takes like 75. If there's an alternative way to get those I'm all for it. I like running fractals but I'm very casual and mostly only play with a small group of friends, and we largely play story with the occasional session dedicated to grinding other stuff.

I really like scrapper. I only recently realized its hammer spin move reflects projectiles and I love it even more now. I still need to unlock holosmith to see how that goes though.

you can buy the matrices on the AH, so spend some of your grinding sessions doing RIBA in silverwastes or whatever you do for gold coins. Though fractals are decent gold and you sometimes get matrices as fractal chest rewards

Oh can you? That's not so bad, I just checked thanks to this and they're only like 40 silver each. Way affordable. I'll probably buy some tonight, I'm up to like 450 gold thanks to the wizard's vault. I'm not rich by any means but I've been gaining way more gold than I've been spending lately.

If you're playing through LS content, you should eventually knock out the requirements for the amulet. Might need to hang out in those zones for a bit to grind after you finish the story there

Oh, huh, I never knew I had to do the return to X stuff for that. I snagged HoT stuff last time that was up at least, I'll have to be more on the ball when those roll in from here on out! EDIT: or am I confusing that with the like, random event poo poo that cycles in and those aren't the same thing?

You can save yourself some effort if you double up on doing the amulet and aurora/vision requirements simultaneously. There’s not always a ton of direct overlap, but it can save doing things like jumping puzzles extra times. Just unlock the legendary collections first, or you won’t get credit towards those. They take an evening or two with a guide.

I haven’t played in a few months and decided to fire it up again. Of course, I have a lot of patching to do! It downloaded about 3.8GB at good speed, then as I watched, the download rate dropped rapidly to zero kb/s and sat that way for a good long while. I had to force-close the launcher because it locked up. Now every time I open it, it downloads a few MB, then stalls out, and clicking anything causes a hard lock of the launcher. Googling shows this just happens to people and has been happening seemingly at random for a long time. I tried every remedy offered to no effect - disabling QoS on my network adapter, clearing GW2 cache, repairing the launcher, hard-coding routes for arenanet CDN addresses using Google DNS. Nothing works, and I’m stuck with 27,000 files to update. Anyone vanquished this evil problem before?

My guess is there was something screwy with your dat file. AFAIK everything about the steam client is identical to the normal client, but installing would download a new dat.

edit: Also possible our CDN is missing some of the files required to patch up your old version and getting the new dat already had newer versions of the problem files.

Ancient Coins, Memories of Battle and Skirmish Claim Tickets are going to be my big bottle necks for getting my confluxes now I think. Mostly it's just a matter of wanting to wvw and grinding out those gifts of battle first, then I can worry about the exact amounts of everything else I need.

To make it more confusing, Ancient Coins actually are another currency! They used to be called Unusual Coins, but then Anet decided that the "Unusual" label will always apply to the latest expansion's coins, while the previous ones will become Ancient. So whenever the next expansion comes out, all the SotO sources of Unusual Coins will become Ancient Coins as well

As long as you can complete Worlds 1 and 2 on your own in normal mode or can find LFGs for the ones you can't, yes, very easy to do in a day.

Depends on how far you are I guess? The soto unlock largely skips the busywork and dumps you right at the collect poo poo step, so if you're already there you might as well finish it I guess.

Also if anyone cares and hasn't logged in yet: character slots are on sale. I got five more so now I can have a character for every class plus a spare, ostensibly for farming keys but also for doing whatever the gently caress else I might need a spare level one character for.

Still need the regular unlock to do the masteries associated with it

edit: actually, now that I actually look at them, most of the essential ones are shared between the two methods - so can just leave the old method till you feel like doing it (they just enhance certain abilities, rather than allowing them)

I got a 10th character slot around the time that PoF came out, ostensibly because I'd need to do core map completion on 10 characters in order to make all the gen 1 legendary weapons.

...

I have yet to make a single legendary weapon, gen 1 or otherwise.

I'm guessing they aren't able to be sent or you'd have had them already.

Goons are nice, but even open world people are pretty chill. When I was new I got 100g from someone to help me finish my griffon when we chatted after doing some event in map chat. I loved it and shot them it back after a week of being able to grind so much easier.

notes are pretty easy to get though. just look for trash items with the box to convert on craft. I dump my stupid mats into crafting useless stuff that gets trashed for notes. I don't know if notes have much use to me unless I do more EoD crafting, but it's not like crafting a few things worth 5s into something worth 90c is going to be something I do anyways.

I'm willing to bet research notes will be used in every expansion going forward. As much as I hate the tedious implementation, they are good for sucking mats out of the economy.

I'd probably view them more favorably if they hadn't started out by playing whack-a-mole to reach some desired price point and then taken away all the free festival utilities and foods to prop that price up.

I recently picked GW2 back up, really enjoying it so far. I had played it at launch, but not much after (beside some random days here and there).
I replayed the base story and am playing trough living world season 2 at the moment on a mesmer. I had started living world season 2 before on a different character, but getting to play season 1 now first makes it so much better than last time I tried to get back into it.

So as I have been playing I managed to collect some of that wizard vault currency and bought the ascension gear boxes, not realizing that they don't contain the viper stat line, while I want to spec into condi mirage. So I am just wondering what is wisdom here; pick the celestial option to do less dps but be more well rounded (tankier mainly I guess)? Or just send the boxes to a different character for a power build. I have an 80 thief, 80 necro and 2 level 80 boosts available, so I could look into what class has a decent, not that hard to play, power build.

Apparently you can also change stat lines on ascended gear with inscription, but I'd have to level inscription (the viper one is account bound) and I don't think that seems worth it as I am in no rush to jump into fractals?

I have looked around and it seems like there is an easy way to get stat select-able exotics in HoT, so I could just continue as power core mesmer until there. I am mainly just doing the story and open world stuff currently.
