Another big spot for Hanan who is obviously there to be pinned but it's a continuation of giving her big spots this year.

Best friends v iwatani/hanan was very good. White belt match going on at the moment. It's been hard hitting. Been an enjoyable show Edit Really liked the white belt match. It's a saori anou match so it can leave me cold occasionally and Ami isn't as inherently likeable in ring as hanan But if Saoris job was to make a couple of big wrestlers stardom see as future maineventers look like stars she is 2 from 2 Burn Down Canberra fucked around with this message at 11:38 on May 18, 2024 |

Actually looking at it, Mayu's IWGP reign has been kinda wild. Won it against Sasha Banks in a match I don't think anyone would ever imagine they'd see, defended against Utami, Stephanie Vaquer, Syuri, Mina Shirakawa, Sareee in a match 4 years in the making, and soon to be defending it in a true Forbidden Door match against Tsukasa Fujimoto. You'd probably have to go a ways back for a title reign with that high of level opponents.

It's so loving sad that we're nearly at the end of Best Friend's run together. Also kind of an appropriate coincidence that's it's happening at the same time as the other Best Friends have ended because of a injury-forced retirement.

Nothing about the announcement spoke of retirement so I'd imagine we'll eventually see her somewhere else. Conspiracy theorists would note this announcement being made the day before Marigold's first show but I don't see anything that would connect her to that place.

At one of the most recent Prominence shows Sera announced that they were no longer going to run regularly - basically it'll be a branding for Produce shows and where everyone is announced as wrestling from but not anything big. The potentially complicated thing with Marigold is the Wrestle Universe connection which is clearly a lot stronger than it is with the other newer promotions (airing every show for starters) - but I guess they also have MIRAI who also left TJPW (and also in a pretty odd way where she sat around for months afterwards before eventually showing up in Stardom) and Rossy owns the thing so probably not a huge barrier. If you wanted to be a conspiracy theorist: the UUG website says she formally left them on 15th May - and Marigold's first show is tomorrow so if it was the same on the wrestling side she might be free and clear to turn up tomorrow. I don't think you can ever rule out Stardom from being interested in people - while they have a deeper roster than anyone else in wrestling I could see them being interested in someone that has a fair amount of experience and also has been a reliable mid-card presence in TJPW. I think it's probably less likely on balance than Marigold; but probably worth keeping in mind. Then there's the general Indies - but if she wants to be full time that realistically requires massive amounts of work between doing every show you can and building up your fanbase and while that is possible (look at Unagi!) it is a lot more likely I think that it doesn't at that level. She also might simply not come back - I get the impression she is in the group that would but I also would say that you cannot judge that fully on perception - there are plenty of people that people thought were pro wrestling lifers that suddenly vanished and never came back; and others that people thought were only doing it for idol reasons who became sickos for this stuff (this is very much Miu Watanabe but there have been others) so who really knows.

I guess I've never really considered what sort of living a bunch of the joshi freelancers have. Your people like Veny, Mizunami, Matsumoto, Yamashita, Yukihi who don't have a home promotion but still work an awful lot (going by Cagematch Yukihi is working as much as she was as an Ice Ribbon contracted wrestler, & IR run as many shows as anyone). It's probably a grind but if you want to do it then beats the hell out of a regular 9-to-5 which is a different kind of grind.
