I think I'll sit out of fantasy sumo again, but everyone please know that I will be rooting hard for SHODAI at all times.

I still can't believe i got to watch him lose twice in a row in person last basho. I can't imagine a more SHODAI outcome, really.

I'm jelly. Although a more Shodai outcome would surely be to win one and lose one. Perfectly balanced chaos.

Edit- vvvvv and now I'm even more jealous lol. Awesome stuff! vvvvv

Actually, I didn't post much about my japan trip when I was there, because I only had my phone and hate typing long posts on a phone keyboard. I might as well talk about it a bit more now.

First: It was fantastic.

Not just the sumo, but doing tourist things in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, too. We stayed a week in Tokyo and a week in Kyoto, travelling to Osaka for the basho two days by train. The trains make it trivial to get around, even as a tourist. All of the stations are labelled in English under the Japanese and google maps will give you accurate directions down to the exact platform to wait on, so it's easy to get around even if you can't speak Japanese.

My friend who is really into sumo (the one in the rainbow "I'm Kenough" sweater) and I did two days at the basho, one in a box and then another in the seats higher up with our other two friends who enjoy sumo but aren't obsessed enough to go two days in a row. It was a great experience. Even in the higher seats, you can get a pretty good view, and the box was surprisingly comfortable. The bentos were decent and it was cool that you could get a beer or other drink cheap from the merch/bento stores. I got a SHODAI towel, of course.

Bento:

Shodai:

The nice thing about the Osaka venue is that all the rikishi are just kinda standing around in the hallways warming up, so you get to walk by them when you get up to get food or drinks. It's one thing to know how big they are, and another to walk by and realize they're big. Great experience. Osaka is a fantastic city for food, too, so if anyone goes to a basho there I highly recommend getting dinner from some of the local places.

Ryogoku:

We also took a day trip to Ryogoku while we were in Tokyo. It was a little quiet since everyone was already in Osaka for the basho, and a lot of the shops with ex-rikishi owners were closed because they had also gone to Osaka to watch, but we did get some incredible chanko nabe.

Chanko:

We did a lot of non-sumo stuff too, like various museums (including both the Tokyo and Kyoto train museums because I'm a huge nerd. Both were good, but Kyoto was much better), a capybara cafe, Fake Meatland like I posted about before, and other tourist-y stuff. I won't spam the thread with all my travel stories for that, though, just know that it was a great trip and I highly recommend going to Japan for any sumo fans here who can make it.

You had me paranoid I accidentally put my thumb in one of the shots and didn't notice.

But yeah, we (of course) all did the tourist thing and put our hands up to compare and none my friends or me were even close.

Probably; he was definitely on there, I just don't remember for sure if that's his. It would make sense though since it's next to the open space and I'm pretty sure Teru wasn't on there yet.
