That FT opinion piece from the Columbia president is very mediocre. Don't think it was posted here yet but this account by reporters from the Columbia Spectator student newspaper is quite a contrast:

quote:

Letter from the Editors: Columbia enabled the NYPD to suppress free press as it brutalized our peers
BY ISABELLA RAMIREZ AND ESHA KARAM • MAY 4, 2024 AT 5:58 PM

Moments before the New York Police Department swarmed our campus in riot gear for the second time in two weeks, we stood in front of Hamilton Hall—renamed Hind’s Hall by protesters—bracing for arrests.
...
More reporters, videographers, and a photographer were stationed near the area where officers initially entered campus. After first trying to document the arrests outside of Hamilton, they moved to the bridge outside the Law School, where they stood watching with other students. But soon, officers sent the students scattering, rushing at the crowd and threatening bystanders with arrest. Officers mocked our journalists and told them to run, swearing at them and laughing as students bolted away in panic. The NYPD chased our reporters until a Public Safety officer intervened and escorted them back to John Jay, where the NYPD barred them from entering. The Public Safety officer had to bring them into John Jay through Wallach Hall, giving them just 90 seconds to collect all of our belongings.
...
Our editors watched from the windows of Hartley as one protester was thrown down the steps of Hamilton. Another protester lay on the ground, seemingly unconscious as officers stood over them. One protester was dragged away, crying, hardly able to walk; many more were aggressively pushed and handcuffed by police. Officers busted down barricades and sawed through chains locking the doors of Hamilton, threw flash bangs into the lobby, and hurled metal trash cans and tables down the stairs—without a care for whether anyone was in their line of fire. The NYPD unleashed en masse officers from the Strategic Response Group, a unit created for “disorder control and counterterrorism” that is widely considered the department’s most violent branch. From our position three blocks away, we watched as an endless line of officers marched on their ladder to enter Hamilton through a window. Body camera footage later showed that inside Hamilton, officers shoved a protester to the ground and entered an office with their guns drawn. At one point, an officer accidentally discharged their gun. Outside Hamilton, an officer was caught on video texting, “thought we loving shot someone.”

According to reports following the arrests, students sustained injuries so severe they were taken straight to the hospital—some leaving with lacerations and swollen faces from being kicked and tackled by police.

Evidently, the NYPD cleared our campus only minutes before mass arrests because it wanted to prevent the press from bearing witness to the brutality police would enact against our peers. But we all saw the truth for ourselves anyways.

The first email we read from Shafik regarding Tuesday night’s mass arrests applauded the NYPD “for their incredible professionalism and support.”
...
Much more interested in what the students are saying.

TL:DR, Zionist MPs in Canada's HOC invited Zionist students to committee and press conferences to talk about how campus protests are antisemitic hate marches, Canadian media outlets willfully fail to point this out in their reporting.

It's morbidly fascinating how much the liberal establishment is willing to burn itself to the ground to cover for a genocide.

For all that the liberal ideology seems to be Calvinistic in regards to pre-determining who's virtuous and who isn't based on allying to western state interests the extent they've taken it for Israel has been breathtakingly insane.

The liberal button is just numerous stickers stacked over each other like registration stickers over license plates. Roe vs. Wade statement over Black Lives Matter. Black Lives Matter over LGBT flag. Peel them all off and you just see the faded paint of an American flag over the button.

Funny story, international students who are expelled or placed on "involuntary leave of absence" like Harvard has done immediately lose student status and must either leave the country or be officially here illegally, which bars them from applying for any other visa status.
Also, if You've been arrested for trespassing and found guilty, that is also grounds for deportation.

In other words, the things trump is threatening to do are things they are already subjected to.

No. Things have degraded so much that on this issue, the only conceivable threat is that Trump could potentially be as bad as Biden (which, tbf, is quite plausible).
