Most of them wouldn't be funny enough to be a funny forums poster. What they do is 95% performance and 5% writing. And still they're really funny in real life.

What do you think this means for us, as a society? What will replace standup comedy once people realize that it's had its time as an art-form?

Comedians are so painfully unfunny on twitter. Even those really bad twitter accounts with 100k followers that post Obvious Jokes are funnier than most comedians on twitter. Except Colin Quinn, whose twitter is a great work of irony.

Actually you don't have to be funny to be a forums poster, you just need $10. So I believe they could in fact be funnier than forums posters. Just my belief tho.

Right, it's a performing art, about presence, not humor in its purest form or whatever. Which is why it will lose its place as one of our mane cultural things.

I really love Mike Epps, because he's like the badly behaved kid who got you detention by making you laugh at a fart noise. He has natural funny. The opening little videotaped thing is so charming.

So many comedians are the opposite. And I hate it! Get rid of them!!

Turns out being charming and engaging in person and posting on a forum are totally unrelated.

Most stand-up comedians are supremely broken people and you kind of need to be to consider doing something where you'll suck for 10+ years before maybe not sucking as a valid career path.

Counterpoint though the absolute worst stand-up comedians are the people with stable lives and families.

I know this will be difficult to swallow, but I am afraid that with our abrasively progressive culture that comedy as an art will likely die. Jokes that some may considwr "distasteful" are being made illegal on every front, including our beloved something awful dot com, and if we don't start fighting back now, then we're already beyond the epitome of comedy in our lifetimes.

I can see comedy being outlawed on the street. There'll be bunkers like in terminator where kids huddle around burning whoopee cushions and people going into dark rooms to throw pies at each other in private.
