Speaking for myself, Nebraska set the Big 10 single-game record for yards gained (784), although it's only the fifth-highest in school history. And Jordan Westerkamp did this loving thing: Butt catch

Penn State/UCF was a really intense and entertaining game. PSU's run defense looked phenomenal and they got good pressure on the QB (Anthony Zettel is a grown rear end man). O'Leary is dumb as hell for sticking with DiNovo as long as he did, if the other guy started the game we would have lost. The secondary is still definitely shaky. Hackenberg had a few poor decisions on throws but overall looked pretty fantastic on his way to breaking PSU's single game passing record. I can't say enough about Dashean Hamilton and Geno Lewis either, they really made it look like we're not going to miss Allen Robinson near as much as I though. Jesse James looked great as well. Offensive line is definitely going to use some work though, couldn't open up running lanes at all and shaky in pass protection. The guards got their lunch eaten all over the field all day yesterday, which I guess makes sense since they're both DTs by nature.

Texas looked pretty good but against North Texas so not really the best indicator of just how good they may (or may not be). Everything more or less looked positive and the defense is playing very aggressively especially looking good in the secondary.

I'd never seen South Carolina lose an opener and I hadn't personally witnessed us lose a home game in five years, so Thursday was not an enjoyable way for me to start the season. Not sure what else I can say that hasn't already been discussed, but A&M is clearly better than expected and we're clearly worse. I wasn't drinking the kool-aid about this team being a potential SEC champ and/or fringe playoff team, but I certainly expected us to look like we'd played football before. Fortunately the season is young, the offense should be fine, and if we nail down tackling alone our defense will improve quite a bit. It's nothing new for us to look rough in an opener -- we're just usually playing a team that can't make us pay for screwing around. Please, dear god, beat ECU. Quick rundown of Mississippi State's 49-0 romp of Southern Miss: The good: 1. DAK PRESCOTT. You have until this weekend to get on the hype train before I call you a poser. 2. Chris Jones will be a top 5 draft pick in two years 3. We had our first shut out (in our favor) since 1999. We had the number 1 defense in the country that year and that was also the last time we beat LSU *fingers crossed* 4. We don't have a first string defense. We seriously alternate two whole units every series, and both were FANTASTIC. 5. We have WR threats for the first time...ever. 6. Josh Robinson will continue the long tradition of great MSU RBs. The bad: 1. O Line needs some work. Were quite inconsistent for the first 1.5 quarters 2. Still need a field goal kicker 3. That goal line series after the fat guy interception was embarrassing. Overall, I loved it. I know that USM is really bad, but we could have hung a hundred on them if we wanted to.

The very first game of this season between two basically unknown teams loving owned, and I really think it's going to set the tone for this season. Other than that, the most fun I had this weekend was the LSU game. Time after time, it's just amazing to watch Les Miles Les Miles all over everyone. Also UK actually won a blowout they were supposed to! You laugh, but it's a step forward. For a while, there's been no guarantees on anything.

Clemson's defense kept us in the game against Georgia for 3 quarters, but in the end it came down to strength and conditioning and there's just only so much you can do against a dynamic back like Gurley. I was somewhat disappointed in our offense, but not surprised. It'll get a good bit better in this season alone, but I don't see us hanging 30+ points on people like the last few years. Props to Georgia, please go on to win the SEC East, the SEC, and hell, get yourself a national title this year. That'll take some of the sting out. In the meantime, this brought a smile to my face today A little Les conversation, a lot more MACtion ^^^ Every thread should be titled this from here on out.

We held Clemson to 15 yards of offense in the second half. There are feelings inside me that I haven't felt in quite some time. I hope there isn't a single UGA fan in the country that feels like picking up Pruitt was a dumb move and we should have thrown more money at Grantham to keep him. First half offense was a bit odd, Gurley only had a few touches and we were tossing in our freshmen backs. A few times we had 2 or 3 tailbacks in at the same time which was silly and fun. My thought, retrospectively speaking, was we wanted a fresh Gurley for the second half and that is what we got. Nick Chubb really reminds me of Gurley in how he moves and just plows people. It is beautiful. Our special teams was actually on point last night, in the second half keeping Clemson mostly behind their 20. Punt returns were way better with a majority of them in the 20 or so yard range which beats out the school average last season by a huge margin. Oh also these:

On the whole, I am pretty pleased with Auburn's performance. The defense looked godawful the first half, but Arkansas is a schematic mismatch for the type of defense Auburn runs, so I am not surprised that they got their yards and points. Second half, Johnson made great adjustments and it was a shutout. On offense, I have no real complaints. The line was inconsistent at times and gave up false starts more than I would have liked, but I think some of that might have been due to them not being used to Johnson's cadence/snap count. When Marshall leaves for the NFL or other pastures, Auburn is in very capable hands at QB. The passing game was very sharp and DUUUUUUUUKE owns. The running game was inconsistent in the first half, but got much better in the second. Partly due, I imagine, to Marshall being a legit running threat whereas Johnson is more of a pocket passer. Side note, Bret Bielema is still a loving douche. Last year, he complained that the swinging gate formation was left out of his game film. This year he says his assistants got stuck on the elevator at halftime. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2014/08/arkansas_bret_bielema_says_ass.html I just can't with this guy. Please let him never win an SEC game.

Virginia Tech came out and had a relatively boring win over William and Mary yesterday. However, a pile of new players and freshmen did pretty well overall, and it was good to get some of the first game poo poo (false starts) out against William and Mary before going to Columbus next week to play motherfucking Ohio State.

So, A&M did pretty well. I was worried about how the offense would fare but it seems like Sumlin has it under control. The number of WRs we have is amazing and I can see his strategy now. Our defense still needs some work but I think basically all of them are freshmen and the one dude that wasn't was responsible for those two quick touchdowns by SCAR. It's going to be really scary (in a good way) watching this team in a year or two.

Maryland beat JMU 52-7 in the most boring fashion possible Run left. Run right. First down. Throw a deep incompletion. Run middle. First down. Bubble screen. First down. Run right. Run left. Touchdown. Repeat. of course Maryland's toughest looking opponent from yesterday looks like WVU so nothing means anything

I could not be happier with the way Georgia played. The entire team as a whole appears to be a hell of a lot more disciplined since Pruitt showed up. I'll deal with the low Gurley touches in the first half if it means he trucks everyone in the second. Nick Chubb is a goddamned bulldozer and has crazy breakaway speed. As a senior in high school he benched 390, squatted 640, and cleaned 395, and he's fast. Marshall, I hate to say it, just doesn't look the same. I hope he heals up and makes himself a nice living one day, but he really looked a step or two off after that ACL. For the first time since Brian VanGorder was the DC, we actually appear to have a defense. Farking Bastage fucked around with this message at 17:04 on Aug 31, 2014 |

Kentucky won a football game, convincingly! I mean, yes, it was against Tennessee-Martin, but. Also WKU opened their season by hanging 59 on Bowling Green so that's neat. Maybe they'll get to play in a bowl game that isn't being held in a blizzard this year.
