Apple and many others implemented end-to-end encryption after the Snowden leaks showed that user data wasn't even safe in their own systems. before this they held unencrypted user data which they'd provide when given a warrant but the NSA poisoned that well. now the fbi is pissed that they have to resort to real police work so here we are
