i don't think you understand why this particular case is unique and not your typical search warrant! that's ok though because very few people do.

i hanve't been following this much an i'm willing to be educated. i'm guessing it's because the govt wants Apple to build a backdoor into customer's encrypted data?

yup. Apple and many others implemented end-to-end encryption after the Snowden leaks showed that user data wasn't even safe in their own systems. before this they held unencrypted user data which they'd provide when given a warrant but the NSA poisoned that well.

now the fbi is pissed that they have to resort to real police work so here we are

not to defend them, but in many cases they're looking for evidence for the case. nowadays a lot of evidence is digital only, and stored on smartphones.
their intentions are good (seeking evidence) but their methods are dumb

it is bullshit that will also lead to better standards for end-to-end encryption

or double-signing everything with the nsa's key and then having that key leaked by someone who decides living like a king in russia is more fun than being a cj

it would also enable places like China to further spy on their citizens. but silicon valley companies have always happily enabled China in this regard so I don't believe it when people say Tim is making a principled stand for privacy and freedom

Yes. Also consider that this is what we get when we leave heaping amounts of text in the federal register. They're not all bad laws, but they all can have unintended consequences, even 225 years later or whatever.

people opposed to what apple is doing are ones who despite being adults use terms like "good guys" and "bad guys" so since the fbi are good guys we should give them access I mean they're good guys so nothing will ever go wrong and we'll catch the bad guys and get rid of them
