Nothing funny ever happened to me, other than the laughs provided weekly by Blockbuster's incredible selection of family friendly comedies.

I don't have any interesting experiences myself, but when I was in elementary school one of my classmates got banned from the local Blockbuster because he was trying to impress his friends by attempting a backflip while his parents were waiting in line or something and ended up wrecking their Pokémon Snap booth.

An old lady brought up the Pirates soft core porn to checkout. I held it up to her and asked "are you sure this is the movie you want?" "oh yes! The pirates one!" okay, power to ya, grandma! She returned 20 minutes later to get "the one with Mr Depp."

I rented Planet of the Apes. My vcr ate the tape. I was mortified that Blockbuster would never rent to my family again. They ended up giving us a free rental. I think I got Friday the 13th VI Jason Lives from it. That movie owns. Best of the series.

I rented Pokémon Snap and went to the booth at Blockbuster and it took 30 minutes for the guy to print out my Magmar pic stickers. He said I was the first person to use the Snap booth.

When I was in high school the equivalent of my local Blockbuster had an illegal video black market part. Basically the two guys working there had their own selection of arthouse videos that they would acquire from different sources or even record them themselves on cable. They kept a list locked in a drawer under the desk. In order to get to that list you needed to be introduced by a friend that already got introduced and then when you came in you had to give one of those two employees "the look" and they'd hook you up.

I used to watch whole movies on their TVs back when they just played random stuff instead of ads for new releases, and they never minded that I just loitered there while my mom shopped.

Nothing really interesting happened at the blockbuster near me when i was a kid except when an angry driver yelled "gently caress YOU" at a random pedestrian before speeding off to a red light 30 feet away. When the blockbuster was going out of business, they were selling their gumball machine for $2500.00.

I used to work at blockbuster. Funniest thing I've ever had happen at my store was a kid getting his arm stuck in the movie return box. His dad seemed completely uninterested in getting his arm out. Just kinda looked at his kid and shrugged. We eventually got him out with soap. Second funniest thing was someone putting anchovies in the movie box overnight. Ruined like 20 movies. Best parts of working there was: all the free poo poo we'd get. When I first started, employees got 5 free rentals a week, then that got increased to 10. People would also just drop off old games in the Dropbox. Like, Xbox games they just didn't want anymore or something. Technically we had to keep them in the back in storage, but we'd all just rifle through them and take what we wanted. Customers were incredibly stupid. They would regularly walk in, want to rent a brand new movie and ask where it was, despite there being a giant display and a 4 foot section of wall, from floor to ceiling, of just that movie. We'd point to it or say what aisle and they'd still say dumb poo poo like "I can't find it." Without actually looking. Blockbuster sucked, but working there was pretty fun.

It was pretty tight when a popular movie got released and you'd go and see they still had a couple tapes left.

I kinda miss the experience of going to Blockbuster with no particular movie in mind, browsing around, and renting poo poo like The Mission or whatever just because it looked interesting.

I think I ended up renting way more nintendo games than movies from blockbuster.

One of the reasons I miss movie rental stores a lot is because there really was an incentive to watch the movies that caught my eye as soon as possible, instead of now where I just pile them into my Netflix/Amazon queue do something else only to forget about them until long after they've been taken off the service.

I had a friend who would "misplace" his lovely xbox/ps2 games for different games when he rented them. The Rogers Video we used to go to had a kids play structure right in the middle of the place, also it had a popcorn machine right beside it.

Blockbuster is a testament to people who seriously, truly believed that this internet video streaming thing was just a passing fad. Also Redbox does pretty much everything Blockbuster could ever did, but much cheaper and easier.

My mind was blown as a child when I realized that Blockbuster Video carried Gameboy games you could rent. Problem was the nearest store was like 40 minutes away. God drat I wanted to rent so many of those tiny little things.

My family paid late and re-rental fees of up to $80 to keep the cartridge of The Legend of Zelda that had our save on it.

If that booth was like the one I'm thinking of, it was around a bunch of store displays and candy racks. That kid would have taken out more than just the Snap booth. Ours had a locked bathroom and they only gave the key to paying customers. The key was on a keyring they'd punched through a VHS rental case, and as a result it could be really awkward to try and unlock the door. I didn't want to deal with this, being something like 5 or 6, and just peed in my pants in front of the SNES games.

My local Family Video has had a car crash through the same wall twice in like 5 years. It isn't even anywhere close to the road, and it wasn't a dvd hijacking plot as far as I know.

Some Friday night in the early 90's my dad brought me, my brother, and a friend of ours to Blockbuster. We were probably being loving retards, grabassing and whatnot. The friend showed me some game, and I remember saying, "that game sucks dicks". My dad overheard from a couple aisles over and came and told me that he raised me better than that, and not to use language like that, and probably some other Reagan-era bullshit.
