Xbox Project Scorpio, which will possibly be called Xbox One X a.k.a. Xbonx, is set to be revealed by none other than Eurogamer's Digital Foundry totally unbiased crew, Thursday April 6th at 6 A.M. PDT/9 A.M. EDT We are being promised the highest quality pixels As well as True 4K gaming which will be interesting given how expensive that is to pull off in the PC space (console cost is yet unknown) What we do know: 8 cores 12 gigs of DDR4 RAM if you can believe it Will be able to run all Xbox One games and accessories, and apparently all games should be like the PS4/PS4 Pro in that the same discs will work on either version of the console, so games will still be designed with that original console's restrictions in mind. The claim is that any of the "Play Anywhere" games (the ones which when digitally purchased are also downloadable on a Windows 10 PC) will run natively at 4K. Likely showoff titles are Red Dead Redemption 2 and Forza 7 and...other stuff? Microsoft is totes serious about gaming and console performance, as they've killed a nice pile of the Xbox One's 2013 bullet points to squeeze just a little bit of extra performance out of their system to maybe occasionally not run as low as 720p. (sidenote: If you were hoping to get Kinect gaming and app snapping happening I have some bad news...) Console exclusives on Xbox are likely a thing of the past so if you're super-impatient you can more or less buy a "Scorpio" right now by getting a decent Windows 10 gaming machine (sample build without controller): Will Microsoft finally save gaming as we know it?

While I am genuinely curious, the fact that there will be no XBOX ONE Scorpio exclusive games to take actual advantage of the power and that all games on scorpio must also run on the xbox one make me care a lot less about it.

Is this essentially Microsofts attempt to release a relevant console without designing it from scratch again?

Drone_Fragger posted:Is this essentially Microsofts attempt to release a relevant console without designing it from scratch again? Honestly they'd probably love to be able to do a proper do-over from scratch but they pretty much can't burn their bridges with prior Xbox One owners. The Xbox One has a lot of dumb design decisions which keep its production costs high, and that has to carry forward in some capacity although we'll likely know more tomorrow.

Isn't MS done with exclusives? Isn't this basically a gaming pc that attaches to your tv like the original vision for the Xbox?

It will probably be pretty good, although I'm sure you could find something bad about it if you wanted to, much like any human creation.

bloodychill posted:Isn't MS done with exclusives? Isn't this basically a gaming pc that attaches to your tv like the original vision for the Xbox? Depends on your definition of that, really. - With the exception of Xbox 360 Backwards-Compatible titles, every first party game released in the last year or so is also available as a Windows 10 UWP game, which means they're wonky and limited in some really stupid ways but you can actually play the games on PC, and there isn't a requirement to pay to play online. I believe this extends to just about every not-on-PS4 third party game, too. - Some non-game UWP apps are available to download and install on Xbox One, for example the version of the Awful App for Windows 10 UWP is this way so you can maximize your shitposting prowess from the comfort of your couch. That said, even though Windows 10 on PC's and Xbox One's OS share a codebase to a degree they're definitely distinct, like the Windows 10 UWP and Xbox One versions of games are definitely each tweaked differently, so while the experience can be close-ish there are definitely very PC-style headaches with the Windows 10 versions of games, and very console-style aspects to the console versions.

OP, you should really drop that i7 down to an i5-7600K, and use the remaining money to upgrade from the 470 to a 1070.

Doom Rooster posted:OP, you should really drop that i7 down to an i5-7600K, and use the remaining money to upgrade from the 470 to a 1070. But then I'd only have 4 CPU threads instead of 8. It also brings the "console" cost pretty drat close to a grand, and really after taxes you're definitely well beyond that so univbee fucked around with this message at 20:17 on Apr 5, 2017 |
