There were too many pirates at sea and by sky, and worse, Purifier Naval and Air Patrols for the helicarrier to simply sail or fly towards the North American eastern seaboard. For the past three weeks, in one of the have been the slowest transcontinental journey in history for the subsonic dual air and sea craft vessel, Director Fury had instructed Agent Astor to navigate the voyage in a series of bobs and dives. The stealth tech was still so far beyond what Apocalypse could do with it or radar technology; the only way could be seen was with the naked eye, but they could still leave a trail or been seen by directly by ships or planes on their normal perimeter sweeps. Fury was fond of reminded everyone that here En Sabah Nur had the numbers and infrastructure advantage, and getting into fights with cutting edge vehicle tech that was mostly a lost art now, wasn’t smart or helpful. Still, despite all the time at sea and even S.H.I.E.L.D agents and the High Council repeating the same speeches and debriefings, to the support and administrative staffs at least, it went by too quickly.

Like David into the lion’s den you marched. Right now, all of you hovered over Jersey, nearly a hundred miles from the turnpike, and 75100 feet high in the sky and finally using it’s energy intensive cloaking technology. Rising way above where a commercial, private, or military airliner could get you, but well below were Helios or some other, much smaller, aircraft could reach, and towering above any HALO jump in recorded and unrecorded history. In an hour or less, you’d be ‘dropping’ less than a dozen miles from the outstrips of the turnpike. This wasn’t any ordinary military airdrop though; Richard Reed left a present for all of you: a working teleporter, right out of Star Trek. The damned thing could only beam up to ten humanoids before you ran the risk of remaking Cronenberg’s The Fly; it also had a 44 hour recharge period when using it on more than four people; then, finally, while the drat theoretically had a distance long enough to transport everyone here to Pluto and back without breaking a sweat, it misfired in areas damped with radiation or the particle effects of aftermath there of, unless it was very short distances (though the helicarrier would have still lifted you to the Eastern seaboard…this was a preemptive strike; months, weeks or less before an actual full scaled invasion.

You were all huttled near the very bottom right of the ship, the hangar bay. Outside of a steel floor, marked only by yellow dashes of paint for pilots, the skeletal steel frame and columns supporting the structure of everything here, laying bare naked and not hidden behind walls, there was the various fighter and bomber craft. And the Sentinels, who eerily hung on the edges of the wall in rows like stuffed animal trophies; dead and lifeless now, but ready to be animated with energy and shuffling around with ill intent like a mob of angry zombies. The best that could be said of them, is that their purple and blue color design added some life next to the grays and silvers.

Well, you all had a little time before your last briefing before the mission was officially underway, talking amongst one another or what not to get your bearings, things should get rolling very soon.

If you think you're gonna get sympathy from the shark, well then, you won't.

Black Panther

Shuri got out her kimoyo beads and pretended to look at her readouts while she tried not to stare at Cable's arm. Techno-organic. Did that mean that the arm was composed of individual nano-machines that mimicked the cell structure of a human arm, or was it made of specific, purpose-built cabling that performed the function of muscle-tissue without having a structural resemblance to organic cellular structure? The former would be considerably more f;flexible;e and capable, in theory, of self-repair, but the latter would probably be stronger. If nano-cells, were they organized according to the adaptive swarm principle of her own Panther Habit, or did they utilize some sort of cybernetic DNA-analog that provided a rigid internal blueprint for each cell to follow? So many questions, and each one, if answered, could provide new insights to use in her own designs. Future-tech! It was exactly like cheating at science.

Bast, girl, she told herself. Pull yourself together.

Shuri tried to lounge casually in the hellicarrier's hangar bay. The machine didn't intimidate her, but it's occupants did. A little. She wasn't used to working with a team; well, not with a team that didn't owe her fealty, anyway. The Dora Milaje had not been happy being told to wait upstairs. Aneka and Ayo were probably even now intimidating the hell out of some Shield cadets inside the commissary.

She realized she was staring at Cable's arm again. Pull yourself together! You're the Black Panther, and a princess. You could pick him up and chuck him out the airlock or conduct him through a coffee ceremony with equal ease. You are literally the smartest person in every room you've ever walked into. Surely you can think of a way to suavely and discretely examine his arm. It was weird how the little stern voice in her head always sounded like her brother.

"Can I touch your arm?" Shuri asked Cable. Wonderful, Shuri. Real smooth. "For science?"

Tap-tap-tap-tap. Tap-tap-tap-tap.

Frank's on edge. When he's not drumming his fingers with his arms crossed, he's pacing around like a caged animal. He'd kept the worst of his nerves at bay over the past few weeks by focusing on training with the suit, but now the drop was so close he could almost taste it. Part of him just wanted to start blowing things up down there until Apocalypse showed his ugly blue face. The rest of him knew that would be stupid, self-destructive, and ineffective, but it sympathized with the notion.

The other thing that had him nervous was working with a team. It wasn't that he couldn't, he just... didn't. He was used to fights where collateral damage basically wasn't an issue. Now he had to work with people, and not just people, but people with wildly varying levels of experience and completely different personalities. This whole assignment seemed like it could get ugly very quickly.

Well, fuck. Really?

Iron Man
PP: 1

Through the amplifiers in his suit, Doom's voice booms, reverberating and echoing from the hollowness of the helicarrier. "Must you pace so, Castle? Doom knows the capabilities of that suit very well, and Doom doubts you lack nerve. You have faced Doom before, so know that this is no mere threat: still yourself, lest Doom make you still!"

Victor hovered motionless near the sentinels, his arms crossed across his chest as his cape billowed out behind him majestically with the slightest bit of magic to convey his royalty and awesomeness. His recent scrying through the late Stark's archives had given him an appreciation for the technologies of others, and Trask's sentinels were certainly of interest to the scientist within Doom. Certainly, devices that could sense the presence of altered genetics and even cosmic radiation were not beyond the understanding of Doom, but Trask had a certain.. menace about his work that Doom certainly appreciated.

After a moment of thought, Victor pivots in the air, turning his armor to face Shuri. Royalty acknowledges royalty, and Doom bows slightly. "We had little time in the previous days to speak, Queen Shuri. Doom hopes to find Wakanda is doing well in these troubling times; you certainly had the technology and resources to keep the world at bay before." He notices her interest in the future mutant's arm and chuckles to himself.

"Give Doom time, madam, and Doom may yet replicate our dear friend Cable's technology for the betterment of our people."

Queen Bruiser

Molly had been hoping that she'd get a chance to relax her nerves before the drop, but any chance of that goes out the window the moment over the sound of Doom's voice booming throughout the helicarier. "Geez!" She flinches, covering her ears from the sound, "Can't you lower the volume on your suit or something? Do you have to sound like your speaking from a megaphone all the dang time?" She grumbles, "And I don't see what's so special about Cable's arm. He's not the only one around here with a metal arm, y'know?" She flexes her own metal arm, completely oblvious to the fact that there is a world of difference between hers and what Cable's was made out of.

Cable | PP: 1 XP: 0

It doesn't take much to notice how Cable has positioned himself as far as possible from the Sentinels, though he is distracted from attempts to determine just how he'd fight his way out when they inevitably turn on them by the Black Panther's question. He looks down at the techno-organic material of his arm and shakes his head, "I wouldn't. The only thing keeping the T-O virus from consuming me is sheer force of will." And considerable mind powers, of course. "You probably won't catch it without blood-to-blood contact, but if you do..."

Cable grins humorlessly, checking his improbably large collection of futuristic weaponry another time.

"Well, if I knew we'd be chatting, I'd served some finger sandwiches and tea for all of us." Fury's says, just a disembodied voice.

Right after Cable's answer about the transmission factor to his techno organic virus, Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D and by extension the head of the remaining intelligence worldwide agencies, somehow appeared by from behind one of the metal pillars. Quickly following him, were Deupty Director of S.H.I.E.l.D Maria Hill pushing a chalkboard, the King of Atlantis Namor, President Silver Sablinova of Symkaria and the master of magnetism and Prime Minster of Genosha himself, Magneto aka Erick Lehnsherr. While three heads of state being here was exceptional and technically risky; this was a moment nearly leader in the Non Apocalypse world wanted to be here for, most of them were sick of being confined into the safety and small settings of the Airship fleet, and Magneto acted as pretty the greatest safeguard possible from being shot out of the sky. When you were dropped off, the helicarrier would return the Atlantic, briefly, and as it recharged, they all would be picked up and scattered to the winds to make it impossible for En Sabah Nur to take them out in one strike again. For now though, they were all here to see you off, and repeat the same lectures they already made ad nauseam a week ago.

“I guess for Miss Khan and Miss Holly, it hasn’t been long since they’ve been to America, but for the rest of you, it must have been a dog’s age. Some of you are feeling nostolgic no doubt, I bet nearly all of you are feeling horrified and maybe disgusted at what you might see over there," Nick Fury says, strolling across the lineup of you, before wheeling back to the chalkboard Hill had set up for him. “Do so on your own time. We got a war to win.”

As Fury points at what looks like to be a map of northern Jersey, the turnpike, the sewers, and southern New York City, Hill struts in front of you, standing as tall as she can at all of 5’6 and continues where Director Fury left off. “You’re first assignment will be infiltrating New York City and try to make contact with a the resistance cell run by Wilson Fisk, whom we’ve made contact with; they're situated well within the city’s new power structure and provide much of your logistical support for operations within the city.”

She continues, bluntly now. “While much of New England area, New York state, and pretty much everything else here is abandoned outside of the occasional shanty town, labor camp, operation or official population center run by some warlord; New York City is one of those major exceptions to the rule. While much of the city was destroyed during the Fall of New York or when the atomic bombs dropped, many population, industrial, and resource centers were protected: that includes large stretches of Queens, Manhattan, and Staten Island. There are also an absurd number of civilians still living there, as En Sabah Nur decreed that the surviving civilians had earned special privileges and that’s not even including the Breeding Pens. If all these special factors didn’t give you the hint, the place is being directly administrated by codename: Mister Sinister one of the Six Horsemen...holding the title of Christ to be specific, and that means top notch security surrounding the entire former metropolitan area .”

Fury continues for her, gesturing more at the board now and deliberately makings between marked parts of it. “We’d love to teleport right in the middle of the island itself, but that’s not possible or smart. Mister Sinister’s radar detection abilities bites the dust when compared to our stealth and teleportation tech, but he is no fool and certainly no moron; he’s a mad scientist, you better bet your rear end he has more than some and pays attention to it. You’d be set upon with in minutes by a legion of Purifiers, the Sinister Six, and the Summer brothers. Instead you will be dropped four or five miles from the turnpike, where you will meet another resistance cell we’ve made contact with, who will smuggle you through the sewers or even over the turnpike, if the need arises. You older folks might have heard of them, the Morlocks. Any questions so far? For any of us?”

Do we kill his Horsemen? Do we pretend we're in Les Mis and wave around a flag until the people rise up and get slaughtered? I mean, it's all cool any way, but I'd like to know. I know none of you are as dumb as Fury looks, so what's the plan? You do have a plan, don't you?"

Well, fuck. Really?
Iron Man

Without hesitation, Doom floats forward and takes his place alongside the other leaders of the free world, nodding to Magneto; of those assembled, he was the one whose power Doom envied the most. Even with all of his science and magic, he had yet to replicate the mutant's powers to scale. He turns his head momentarily towards Namor, if only to be polite. "Ah, the Atlantean King. How fares Atlantis?" Doom lands, drawing his cape about him as he tucks his hands into the small of his back, standing tall with shoulders squared. His nation may have fallen, but Doom was still king.

Doom takes in the briefing, his masked face implacable and hiding the thoughtful expression on his face; while he was certain he, Castle, and Wilson could handle any of Apocalypse's minions with ease, he wasn't sure he wanted to tempt the fates by attacking all of them at once. When Wilson opens his mouth (assuming it had ever been shut), Doom bristles, throwing his cape to the side as he takes a half step forward, clenching his fist.

"Impudent fool! Is it not obvious that the death of Apocalypse is the ultimate goal of this mission? We will whittle down his lackeys, and then Apocalypse shall fall before the might of Doom!" He regains his composure after a moment of menace, bringing his cape back around his body. "Doom knows his foe this time, and Apocalypse shall not emerge from the battlefield this time. The Avengers, the X-Men, they were all ill-prepared before the powers of Apocalypse, and had fought with a whimsy they had used for all lesser foes. They perished for the want of heroism and justice, thinking they faced a foe who could be battered about the head and thrown into a cell, or one who would ultimately see the error of his ways. They sought simply to be heroes; Doom, and every single one of you, will seek nothing less than the utter annihilation of our foe, as he seeks for us."

Victor falls silent for a moment, letting the heavy words settle upon the room. "Doom is no stranger to the strategies necessary to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, particularly for a resistance wishing to reclaim their home land. We will pick off his lieutenants, his Horsemen and his Sinister Six, weakening their hold and stretching their forces thin through all manner of guerilla warfare. Only as they fall can New York be reclaimed, with the soldiers of SHIELD holding each stronghold after our victory, the heads of their former overlords upon pikes as warning for any who dare support Apocalypse." Doom gestures to the map as he speaks, the eyes of his mask glowing brighter and brighter as he gets more energetic.

Chuckling, Doom tucks his hands back beneath his cape, turning back to Deadpool. "Perhaps the concepts of tactics and long term strategies are lost upon a man who only sees each individual battle, and is little more than a cancer-ridden berserker skirting by on stolen gifts." Doom half-turns towards Fury, gesturing towards Wade off-handedly. "Director Fury, would it be possible to perhaps supply Mr. Wilson with a coloring book on the subject at hand? Perhaps with a double-ended crayon, so he does not task his addled mind too much with decision."

"Oh, could I have one of those big boxes of 64 crayons, please? They have all the colors!" He leans forward and puts his elbows on his knees. "You're right, of course. All I have are stolen gifts, unlike yourself", he says, his eyes going up and down Doom's suit. "And clearly, I don't have the mastery of strategy that you have, which is why Latveria is free from Apocalypse's forces today. Thank you for giving this simpleminded mercenary your wisdom."

Namor nods at Doom, “Better than most, sadly too much so these days. Only Atlantis, Wakanda, and Latveria had both the foresight and the technology to prepare adequately for a possible nuclear bombardment. Apocalypse’s forces attacked Wakanda and you can ask the Black Panther what madman did her family and her country; without their full might of their industry it has been hard to supply the rest of the world adequately with radiation resistant crop seed, livestock, and proper anti rad medicines. Susan Storm and her team offer as much help as they can with us, but they are but four. Worse, with the war on the horizon more will be asked of my people, and it will be my duty to demand it from them, when most of the surface world has shown nothing but indifference and scorn before they were driven to their knees. But that’s noblesse oblige for you, and at least I have another two here who understands that burden and seek to relieve it with a hands on approach. It is good to see you King Victor Von Doom.”

While Namor greets a man who was an off again ally and enemy of his nation as a brother, and tries to avoiding directly mentioning their mutual enemy of Richard Reed and the loss of Latveria, the rest of the High Council have a decidedly less warm reception. Both President Sablinova and Prime Minister Lehnsherr attempt to tacitly ignore Doom standing next them, though Magneto briefly sneers for a moment. The lukewarm could truly surprise Doom, given the history of their nations though. While Sumkaria and Latveria had participated on a number of Nazi and Hydra hunting missions together since the late forties, there was a long bloody history of border skirmishes and outright wars from the past millennia, and if the common enemy of Nazi Germany couldn’t fully heal that wound in a generation, the same could probably be said of this one. Worse though was Magneto’s, that didn’t exist in a pre-Apocalypse world. Latveria isolationism and favoritism had always bothered a Prime Minister who made his home into oasis for all refugees, not just mutants, though that could be forgiven. Erick Lahnsheer had openly objected Doom’s placement on the team and for much longer, openly called him a coward throughout the press who abandoned everyone when it suited him. He had offered a formal, and somewhat genuine apology to him when he had been briefed what would be asked of the new Avengers team, but it seemed some bad blood remained.

Maria Hill steps between Iron Man and Deadpool as the argument threatens to escalate further. “Cool it you two; save this for Apocalypse. The two of you can have this dick measuring contest on your own time and when the fate of the world isn’t at stake. As for you Wade, you will stop trying to needle….”

“You cool it too, Deputy Hill,” Fury says, standing still and keeping the malaise smooth quality to his voice. “Doom was correct in answering Wilson’s questions about the point of this mission, and Wilson was completely correct in addressing his concerns for all to hear. A lot is being asked of both of them, so can we forgive them for losing their tempers a bit...as long as they don’t lose them when they make landfall.”

His gaze locks onto Deadpool. “While I think Doom got to the point of the matter, I’ll clarify it even more. En Sabah Nur’s forces are splintering apart at the seams. We don’t have all the details, with things being as chaotic as they are, but five years ago right after the nuclear retaliation, Apocalypse pitted his Horsemen against select individuals from survivors he deemed the ‘Purified’. He called it something like the ‘Darwin Trials’. The Purified losers would be killed on the spot or selected to serve as special agents and lieutenants of Apocalypse and his Horsemen if they put on a good show. The Purified winners would kill and then replace the Horseman they defeated. We know for a fact, three lost, including Pestilence Kandra and War Rasputin. We know for a fact after this, some of the Horsemen started getting second doubts serving a man who thought they were just as replaceable as the human they threw into the Breeding Pens, and some because they never signed on for his war in the first place. None of them moved openly against him yet...but it [i]will happen[/]. We know it because En Sabah Nur wants it to happen. He wants a brutal contest to remove the chafe from the true believers, even if it means decimating his army and leadership right before a war he is fully planning, because he is a fanatic.”

“The part of your mission in New York will start with making contact with and then uniting the various rebel cells in New York City and then begin striking vital defensive and support infrastructure, before moving onto to assassinating local leadership: Mister Sinister, Scott Summers aka Cyclops, Alexander Summers aka Havok, Parker Robbins aka The Hood, a gene researcher known as Beast, and possibly the current ‘mayor’ of New York City Matthew Murdock. Hold off on killing that one though; Fisk believes he might the high level informant that’s been assisting various resistance forces throughout Apocalypse's empire by doing everything from leaking train shipments of weapons and hidden genetic research and weapons facilities, placing spies near high level officers, and aiding in carrying out assassinations. We aren’t sure and the last thing we want to do is kill one of our own and a powerful asset at that. The best part of this that Apocalypse won’t intervene until it’s too late; he gives a hands off approach not because of trust to his Horsemen and warlords, but because he trusts them, but to weed out those who can’t keep up. As long as we present this as a simple insurgency, En Sabah Nurr will not send aid even as we decimate his greatest stronghold on the Atlantic seaboard. From there we can begin a proper invasion of the eastern North America, while the rest of you can continue striking behind enemy lines and eventually the blue bastard himself. ”

Ms. Marvel

Kamala looks noticeably perturbed throughout the entire briefing. This was all a bit heavy for her, and the larger than life personalities butting heads isn't doing particularly much to help. She definitely wanted the Age of Apocalypse to come to an end, but...could she really bring herself to assassination? She's barely even broken bones in her career!

"Oh boy, this is a lot to take in, and a lot of it sounds way easier said than done."

Cable barks a quick laugh at that, "It always is, kid. We've got a lot to do and it ain't gonna be easy." He cracks his neck back and forth a couple of times. "Keep your head in the game, think about what you can do, and try not to die. That's the trick with war. It's all about making the other poor bastard dead, while avoiding their attempts to do the same to you."

Shuri gives Namor a respectful nod, royal to royal, and Magneto a much more guarded dip of the head. Doom, she tries to ignore. Other than Apocalypse, Latveria is the only surface nation remaining that truly poses a threat to Wakanda, and the ruler of Latveria is, if anything, even less temperamentally stable than the genocidal mutant.

"While we are on the ground," Shuri says, "I presume we will be out of contact with SHIELD, correct?" From her belt, she removes a slim silver case; nestled inside are a dozen shiny black marbles. She touches each of the kimiyo beads to her own bead-bracelet, whereupon it lights up briefly. Then she hands a bead to everyone on the team but Doom. "The team will be able to stay in contact with these, when were down there. Just hold it in your hand or insert it into your ear and speak, or whisper; it has a subvocal microphone and provides essentially untraceable short-range communication."

"Do we have any local resources, other than our contact with the morlocks? Maps, encryption protocols for Apocalypse's communications, dossiers on his lieutenants, that sort of thing? And, more importantly, do we have an exit strategy?"

Surreptitiously, Shuri toggles a kimiyo bead on her wrist and, with a subtle motion of her hand, slides it past Cable's arm within an inch of his skin, never making contact but getting a full scan for later perusal. Science! After all, if it is contagious, what better way to develop a techno-organic vaccine? He's probably exaggerating; it can't be that dangerous if he goes around punching people.

Frank's in the middle of turning to tell Doom where he can shove his third-person babbling when Fury shows up. He respected Fury too much to get into a shouting match in front of him. The rest of these petty dictators didn't mean a thing to him, but Fury was as close as he had to a friend. Then, just before he can respond to Fury, Doom starts up again with the speeches and Frank mentally counts to ten a few times. His HUD chirps something at him about agitation and blood pressure. Goddamn Stark tech was always babysitting him; how had Tony and Rhodes put up with these mollycoddling suits? Finally, when silence returns, he just shakes his head and speaks up for the first time.

"I can't believe I'm about to be working with Wilson Fisk. Not surprised he's alive, though. He's a big guy, but he's never had trouble slipping through the cracks. Still never thought I'd see the day I'd be teaming up with him."

Magneto jumps at the end of Cable and Ms. Marvel’s conversation. Apparently being the father of four children and an educator for fifteen years had made him sensitive the worries of young people. “I knew a lot of girls your age in France, back when I was a boy, who had to make that decision constantly and worse Miss Kh...Marvel. They had to do what Fury is asking of you and even more, without the benefit of our gifts. When those mass murdering madmen came calling and set up in their backyard, plenty of men, boys, women, and girls who would never raise a finger before or after, found the exception to their lives of pacifism and peace and did the duty they expected of themselves. I also knew those who couldn’t, yet still helped the effort of displacing and stopping the fascists. I won’t judge you either way, and if anyone here does their opinion doesn’t matter."

Magneto eyes scan the room and settle on Director Fury, though he still spoke to Kamala Khan. “You’ve heard Fury debriefing; failure almost always means death to all of Apocalypse’s agents and servants. The man is more than an extremist, he is a fanatic when it comes to his Darwinist beliefs. There is a reason I sent Nemesis back to his father alive after I defeated him five years ago, and why we haven’t seen him since. Most of them will choose to flee as far as their feet will take them, and surrender to us, when the option becomes available. Most of the Purified and even the Horsemen are just opportunists and though they might be willing to risk their lives, they won’t throw them away by reporting back to En Sabah Nurr or their superiors for summary execution. For the handful of true believers, well…there is a core of doubt in every fanatic and they’ll either do their job for you to soothe it over, or rationalize away why they’re running to the hills instead of fighting you lot for round two or back to master to be put down. You don’t have to murder anyone...just don’t feel bad if you do.”

After Castle muses about Fisk’s involvement in the resistance efforts, Fury takes the opportunity to answer what might questions be unspoken in some people’s minds. “You’re taking this better than I thought you would Castle. Speaking of which, intel is scattered, especially in New York, but I can tell you the former Kingpin, isn’t the exception to the rule. There are more than a few crime lords and so called super villains, along with superheroes, working as either freedom fighters or leaders; some of them are fighting for higher and better causes, some are just doing so for the sake of survival or pragmatism. While the High Council offered them the same blanket pardon some of you were offered, I’m going to tell you now I’ll leave how you interact with local rebel groups up to your discretion. While I prefer you work with them, and not leave them out to dry or worse, if say—Purple Man had control over a company of special ops soldiers and spies in Mister Sinister’s organization – maybe it would be best if we didn’t leave him in a position of power when we size New York or at all for that matter. Likewise, maybe you all think it’s in your interest to work with him for awhile, but decide some partnerships aren’t supposed to end amicably...no one would shed any tears.”

Hill answers Black Panther’s inquiry by whistling, seven S.H.I.E.L.D aides coming out and handing you a small briefcase, each one containing a wristwatch and an ear piece. “Those watches will ding each of you as a Mutant to Purifier or New York Municipal scanners as a registered Mutant Purified Citizen with apartments in New York. For some of you, this won’t be hard to prove if you’re asked to make a demonstration, but considered 90% of mutant powers are ‘can fix the television without the parts or knowledge necessary too’ or ‘gets internet access without being plugged in or with a working internet connection’ the rest of you probably won’t be pushed. Oh, and if anyone asks, Castle, you’re Khan’s father. We’d have marked it as Cable...but you’re a telepath and we’d rather not have the both of you hunted down if you’re abilities come out of the bag. The women here are too young, and one of you...well, are hard to explain as a biological parent and orphans or stepchildren without a blood parent raising are sent to the Breeding Pens to be process and trained as Apocalypse’s Purifiers or even his direct agents.”

Hill noticeably and pointedly leaves out Deadpool and Doom as cover for Khan.

She continues, lifting the ear piece and later, taking a gander at Black Panther’s device. “And yes Princess Shuri, you are correct and thank you for sharing Wakandian tech with us. Our radio communication is blocked by either the low levels of radiation or Sinister’s tech over long distances, but we have scrambled the basic levels of theirs through our friends in New York. This should allow you to both intercept radio transmissions of Purifiers and New York P.D, but it won’t intercept the private channels of higher ranking officials and officers: the Sinister Six, Heralds of the Horsemen, Et cetera. Maybe Fisk’s boys can do more with what they uncovered, but I suggest being prepared for any of them to ambush or otherwise try to surprise you at any time, just to be sure. More importantly it can block high level radio and internet transmissions from Sinister’s men, no matter their rank, and scramble your own from detection. But no, unfortunately, Sinister runs too tight of a ship and coordination is rather difficult for any more infiltration tools on that level."

Silver and the rest of the Council members glance at their own watches. “It’s T Minus Seven before you reach entry point, we have to get ready to deport. Good luck Nick...and more importantly the rest of you. Some of you, I don’t know well, while others...” she glances at Castle, Doom, and Deadpool. “I admit to having poor relations in the past. But that’s what it is, the past. From now on, I consider you friends to my people, now and forever. And I can only hope the feeling is mutual.”

Alright, anyone have more questions, shoot em'. We're finishing up, and you’re about to be zapped in.

Castle shrugs at Fury's comment about Fisk. "It's all a matter of scale, Fury. I'd put a bullet in Fisk in a heartbeat if I didn't have my eye on a bigger fish. If he thinks he'll walk away from this without cleaning up his act, and let's face it, he definitely thinks that... well, it won't end well for him." He spends the rest of the speech nodding quietly... until he finds out he might have to play that he might have to play Khan's father, and a jagged chunk of ice jabs into his heart. He'd already failed one family. He'd already held one dead daughter. The world spins a little and he feels nauseous; the HUD chimes something about agitation again, but everything sounds like he's underwater.

Then it passes, like his episodes always do. At least no one could see his face in this suit, because he was sure his eyes would've been looking somewhere a thousand miles away for a minute. He hated them for putting one more kid's life in his hands. But he wasn't going to refuse, and that was probably their intent. Cold-hearted bastards, all of them, even Nick. He looks to Ms. Marvel and nods, managing to keep his voice steady. "Stick with me and you'll be just fine, kid. Wilson's comment about Latveria had struck Doom hard, and internally, he was a maelstrom of rage and frustration. Victor didn't care about the jabs about the armor, or any of Wade's other menial jokes; the loss of his nation, his birthright, the very nation he had raised with his own two hands and had sworn to protect and make the greatest in the world, was gone. And Deadpool knew something about it, which was impossible.

He remained quiet for the rest of the briefing, staring holes through Deadpool's head during the whole time. However, Doom chuckles darkly, eyeing Castle as the news he will have to play father to an Inhuman is laid upon him. "Doom wishes you luck, Castle; perhaps this is a second chance and a means for redemption. You can do no worse for Kamala than your first daughter."

After whatever hopefully figurative salvo Castle fires off in response and while the others mill about in preparation for the assault, Doom swiftly moves in on Wade, collaring the man and holding him to where he is face to face with Doom; the monarch's voice is a low growl, to keep others from hearing the conversation. "Your preternatural ability to know the unknown is infuriating, Wilson. None but the highest of the Council and those who wrought the destruction of my people know of Latveria's fate, and Doom knows you are not of the council. So, speak! What hand had you in the death of Doom's subjects? What more do you know of their genocide, and how?"

Cable finally slips Panther's bead into place — his own cybernetics whitelisting it for conditional access to his integral HUD — then looks back at the bickering trio with something between absolute exhaustion and annoyance. Plans and groupings immediately begin to be reconsidered by the mutant commando given the dynamics clearly in play. Castle is a man looking for death, clearly enough, and may well drag the rest of them down with him. Doom... his ego is the equal of Apocalypse, surely, and that may well lead to fatal oversights and miscalculations. And Deadpool... even in the horrors of Cable's own time, few could rival what the man considered quips. A group of commandos, then, rather than soldiers. One likely to scatter at a moment's notice. Panther seems reliable enough, perhaps the kid and the bandit as well, but that remains to be seen. More than one has shown promise and cracked on the battlefield.

He says, "Save some of that pep for Apocalypse and his jackboots. You're gonna need it."

Leaning away from War Machine's armament's line of fire -- Stark-tech, though adorably boutique, is one of the few technologies she really respects from outside Wakanda -- Shuri examines the wristwatch with interest. Although diplomatic protocol prevents her from opening it up and examining its workings right here and now, you can be sure that she'll have done it before nightfall. She slips it on the wrist not sporting a bracelet of kimoyo beads and slides her fingers along the bead interface. A ripple of black nanites flow from her silver claw-choker down her arm and nestle beneath the wrist-band.

Iron Man holds on to Wade for a moment longer before he releases him with a scoff. "You are a mercenary with a bizarre moral compass, Wilson, and not a heartless, mindless genocidal maniac. Doom believes your innocence, and will offer a moment of sincere candidacy: do not tell the others of Latveria. Few know, and Doom would keep it that way until the threat of Apocalypse is over. Doom desires no sympathy or sorrow until Doom is toiling to rebuild." He brushes the mercenary's shoulder off and turns, swishing his cape dramatically and directly into Deadpool's face. Dwelling on Latveria had reminded the monarch of what was at stake, and he recognized the need to soften his heart and his will with these people; they were to be his comrades.

Victor strolls towards the Punisher with confidence, stopping only five feet in front of him. "Castle, Doom offers you a rare treasure: an apology and the acknowledgment that Doom has made a mistake in his wording and thinking. I, Victor von Doom, have insulted you with my words, and for that, I apologize." Doom raises his hands to his mask and, after a moment of concentration, uses his magic to remove it, lowering it from his face so he may meet Frank eye to eye.

"We have both lost much in our tumultuous lives, Mr. Castle, and we stand to lose more. My barbs were sophomoric and unnecessary, a byproduct of a personality Doom no longer wishes to bear. I am speaking from the depths of sincerity that Ms. Khan is in the excellent hands of one of the world's most gifted soldiers, and no man is more suited to protect her within this group. I would entrust my dearest Valeria in your hands, Mr. Castle, without a second thought, as I know no evil would dare go near the wrath of the Punisher."

Doom smiles, folding his hands in front of him and bowing slightly. "I would offer my hand in the name of camaraderie and friendship, Mr. Castle, but Doom knows there is a long road ahead of him to even consider gaining your trust. I pray that together we can dismantle En Sabah Nurr's dynasty and create an earth that our children would joyfully inherit, and would make our lost families proud." He turns to bow to Queen Shuri, as well as the other assembled council members.

"I apologize to you all as well for my outbursts. In spite of myself, I am capable of recognizing my mistakes and learning to better who I am; godhood reinforced much of what I had believed to be true, but ultimately, it left me hollow and cold, and Doom cannot continue down that path, particularly not in the face of the annihilation of our planet."

He sighs, raising the mask to his face once more and securing it, causing the eyes to flare to life; his voice is once again modified, booming and meancing. "Doom is ready to continue what Iron Man once started, and will remember the lessons of Stark."

He's only fighting because he's cornered. All the tension slumps out of Frank's frame and he powers down his weapons. He makes a noise that might be a laugh and shakes his head.

Hill and Magneto are about to jump in in the three way brawl between Deadpool, War Machine, and Doom, while Fury watches with his remaining eye and merelytsks as he looks at watches the scene in front of him unfold. Likewise, he’s about to say something...when the situation mostly defuses itself with a wave of apologies.

“I’m glad the three of you decided to grow up and realized you can brawl in the schoolyard after class, like the children you are, when Apocalypse is taken care of,” Fury says, disgust palpable on his face. “Ms. Khan, I take it you’ll be looking after your father.”

Magneto looks over to the very end of the hangar bay, frozen for a moment as he registers everything. “Less than one minute, Fury.”

“Alright then, you should make it the Turnpike itself rather quickly, and make contact with the Morlocks within a few minutes from touchdown. Make it to Fisk and help him unite the other rebel cells; take out important infrastructure in the city; take out Sinister and his officers. From there we’ll take New York and make it a place worth living in again and you can move onto Apocalypse. Save the fighting for the enemy, remember the person next to you might be fighting for reasons of their own, but ones everyone here could understand and even sympathize with. Nurr’s siege and the warheads did a number on that city, but people are still there, waiting for someone to put an end to the murder and tyranny that have up their daily lives for the past fifteen years,” Fury says, looking you all over. “As soon as we can, we’ll contact you and coordinate more directly and efficiently to carry out your mission. You’ll be seeing some unpleasant things there, but keep your eyes open. En Sabah Nurr is trying to break their spirits and make the world kneel at his feet; remind him and everyone else that you’re Avengers and we’re all willing to stand up and fight back no matter what he throws at us.”

Magneto walks over to Molly, Princess and Kamala Khan, slowly like every step was hard for him. “Finish what I started years ago. I don’t just mean the Battle for the UK, either. Once, when I was much younger and more foolish, I shared and advocated for a cause not at all dissimilar from En Sabah Nurr’s own. Not the genocide and murder, oh no. I had seen many things in my life, horrible things, especially as a child. And as a child I thought myself and others like me immune from those ‘Old World’ mistakes and prejudices. I believed in a world ruled by mutants alone, as nature’s remedy and natural improvement on mankind. That humanity’s mistakes were derived from it’s natural state powerless and uncertainty, and the envy and fear of the Other that come with that. That only with an optimistic people assured of themselves and endowed with ‘gifts’ could guide Earth to a better place, and that we would be hated by the world for it.”

He sighs, turning from them and to Frank and the trio of men and Cable “Disgusting. If it hadn’t been for Charles and his vision of cooperation and love, of community building and not destruction, I think I would have ended up on your one of your hit lists Mr. Castle and rightfully so. It might be me, you were sent to stop today, in another time and place. There is no peaceful or worthwhile world to be found by the concepts of domination and supremacy. I’m reminded, decades ago, a revolutionary group would tie white flags to the ends of their rifles, to remind them the point of their war was eventually stop it and the brutality that caused it. So while you try to take out Apocalypse, remember that what we all want to fight for: Charles Xavier’s world. One of peace and unity, between peoples, so that things that happened to the planet, never happen again,” Erick then points to one of the Sentinels, “And so those things like that can be dismantled right after this war. Stop.”

“Defeating Apocalypse means more than destroying his armies and killing him, please remember that when you do, B’ezrat HaShem” Magneto says. “Shalom aleichem; good luck to you all and your journey.”

“Alright, T-Minus Zero,” Hill states, everyone stepping back from the group of you. “Show us what Avengers can do.”

Without that you’re all gone and go from seeing grayish and silver steel, and instead see the wounded horizon and open sky. Everything is rubble encrusted skeleton half buried or raising from the grave, brown toned, or what remains of the New York City Skyline/

Doom Pool: 2d6

As you get closer and closer, those of you without super vision can begin to see the mostly intact web way of the New Jersey Turnpike and the shadow of the New York skylin, as well as new structures constructed after the war in the Big Apple. Cyclopean crystal spires and towers pierce the heavens, well above their older skyscraper neighbors, almost like the old skyline was sinking or dropping into the ocean. Golden, transparent domes covered much of the boroughs, making everything look like a demented snow globe. It seemed that Mister Sinister and Apocalypse indeed wanted something more than mere destruction and death, though it still was built on a mountain of skulls.

Over the earpieces or beads, you only hear the Morlock's message right before you make it to the highway system. “Don't bother going on top or our way in the sewers; surprise Purifier patrol combing the area. We’re going silent for the next hour, we figure they'll get bored and beat it. Miles of pipes and clearing down here not even on Pre-Nuke maps. Stay Stay alert and be be careful!”

That was three hours ago; no peep from the Morlocks.

Cable | PP: 1 XP: 1

Cable takes a look at the surroundings as the team rallies. Torn up and, well, apocalyptic to be sure, but with a distinct futuristic flair. Still a fair sight better than what it had been in his time. Sinister's grand skyline hadn't survived the first Prime offensive. He says, "Alright, looks like our rendezvous is off the table. Can't afford the delay, even if they do manage hide out." He brings up a holographic map projection in the midst of the team and sketches a route. It skirts around the Turnpike, then winds into the depths of NYC. "No use announcing our presence just yet. If we take this detour, it shouldn't add much time — assuming we don't run into another patrol — and we should be able to track down Fisk once we're in position."

"I say we'd be better off just taking these Purifiers out, assuming they're still around. Either they captured the Morlocks or they're hanging around and preventing them from coming out. We kill 'em all and maybe save some allies in the process. We can take 'em."

Castle was itching for a fight. The sight of what these bastards had done to New York was putting him in an even more murderous mood than usual.

+1 XP from Death Wish for proposing a highly dangerous course of action.

"Castle is correct. It would be to our benefit to simply bring the fight to the Purifiers." Doom unfolds his arms from across his chest, his cloak billowing as he begins to hover once more. "Doom proposes a plan: the Stark suit Castle wears and Doom's own iteration of the Iron Man armor are well equipped for skirmishing tactics; the two suits could be used to strike and retreat as necessary, to draw the Purifiers away from the Morlocks and lure them into a trap."

Doom gestures towards the holographic map Cable is projecting. "Castle and Doom shall scout the area ahead, and should we encounter Purifiers, we will engage. The sound of combat should carry far, but as Castle has been gifted a means of communication amongst the team by Queen Shuri, he can report the engagement regardless. Should battle take place, we will lay an ambush.." Viktor glances at the map for a moment before pointing towards a section of the ruined highway. "Here. Cable and Deadpool will move ahead of the rest of the squad when the alert is given and take position amongst the rubble."

"At that point we will simply be pulling the noose closed upon our foe. Castle and Doom shall retreat to the trap, and once the Purifiers pass Cable and Deadpool's positions, the two of us shall re-engage while the mercenary and the time travelling mutant waylay them from behind."

Viktor looks over to remaining three members of the team, "Queen Shuri, I would request that in the event we enter combat, that you, Ms. Khan, and Ms. Molly circle away from the fighting and head towards the Morlock tunnels. Doom surmises Ms. Molly would certainly be in her element should the enemy try to face her in such close quarters, with little room to maneuver or retreat against her terrible strength, and Ms. Khan's abilities would also be incredibly beneficial. It would also see to your safety."

The armored monarch allows a moment of silence before he turns to the other three members of his plan. "Castle, Cable, Mr. Wilson. Doom assumes his plan to be tactically sound, but he would bow to the expertise of men who have been involved in such small scale guerrilla conflicts such as this many times over. Doom is a general, and not a lieutenant, and his personal experience suffers for it compared to those who have been forged upon the fields of battle such as yourselves."

"Feeling bad for them, Castle? They knew what they were getting into. Still, might be nice to purify some Purifiers. So lets do the big drat hero thing and commit some murder."

Deadpool listens to Doom's plan. "Hey, who are you calling a time travelling muta...oh." He nods. "Seems tactically sound enough to me, if a little boring. I'd say we do it."

Kamala flashes Victor a double thumbs up. "Gotcha, Mr. von Doom!" She then turns her thumbs up to both Molly and Shuri. "Girl Squad, yeah!"

She then walks over to Frank and gives him a playful punch to the arm with a slightly embiggened hand. "Ready to do this, 'Dad?'"

Shuri crouches on a piece of shattered rubble and rebar that used to be a freeway on-ramp and slides her panther habit's visor through its various vision modes, ending in enhanced thermal. The lack of living creatures in her heat sight was truly disturbing; even on the quietest night back home in the veldt, the heat vision would reveal a plethora of wild life. Here she only saw a few rats.

"We'll take the tunnels, Doom," Shuri says, giving Ms Marvel a brief thumbs up. Definitely not the worst squad to be on, yeah? And while she didn't like tunnels or tight, confined spaces, it made tactical sense; it's where her vibranium claws would do the most good.

"And for the record, Doom, you can drop the mockery: it's 'Princess' Shuri. I am no queen."

Victor turns his full attention back to Shuri, and gives her a regal bow. "My humblest of apologies, Princess Shuri. Doom had no intention to brook insult; he merely made an incorrect assumption of your royal station, for you do carry yourself with the poise and majesty of a queen." He sweeps his cloak aside as he stands, bowing his head once more to her. "Doom has been corrected, and hopes you will understand and forgive this transgression."

"Sounds like a plan to me, Doom. Basic hammer and anvil, but a simple plan's always the best. You try to get fancy with things and you're just adding points of failure. These Purifier freaks are gonna be used to people running from them. Let's teach them what it feels like to get hemmed in."

"Sure thing, Lisa," he says without thinking, and then involuntarily shudders. "Kamala. Sorry. I... sorry."

But from the way he seems to be staring off over Ms. Marvel's shoulder as he says it, it's not clear whether or not he's apologizing to anyone who's actually present.

Deadpool watches the exchange, but doesn't say anything, for once. He just fiddles with a pistol and mutters to himself, "Should have brought the missile launcher. . . Well, yes, but we can do that later. I don't even know where I'd get an empanada right now. Yes, but they expect it. Stupid Daniel Way."

The Turnpike

Deadpool and Cable advance to one of many stretches of highway that suddenly came to a dead end and a long, fatal drop onto the ground for a regular human being who didn't notice and continued on his way; the main factors setting it apart being it's proximity to others for the ambush and piles of rubble and abandoned, derelict cars that operated as cover. From this distance however, the seasoned duo didn't need suspicions or experience to figure out why the Morlocks hadn't messaged the Avengers again. Maria Hill's watches on the four of them (Punisher, Doom, Deadpool, and Cable) began mummering softly and with enough static that they sounded like cassette copies of whale songs and other soothing beach noises.

"Black and Blue Squads over; Barracuda's intel was right. We made contact with, tagged and bagged thirty boogies so far, but we just scratched the surface. I'd say we're looking at a total of roughly three hundred down here, whole community. I'd say give it five minutes, and advance southeast to the nearest subsection to cut off any possible retreat," a voice says, too much interference to assign it any real qualities or identifying features. "Glad Domino and Caliban sent him our way; I'm seeing enough commendations for all of us by Alex to get off us this poo poo duty, and onto palace work. Wonder what someone like him gets out of --Alpha Fireteam, break off into that tunnel, a couple kids fled that way, they're gene traitors and they get no quarter--I mean this was a pretty big bounty haul for him."

Another voice, chides him or her, but the extent to which is hidden once again by faulty radio connect. Guess that's what happens when you're piggy backing on it. "Ten Four; though I got to say, Barracuda isn't one of them or rather wasn't. I get it either the whole Reapers structure is screwy. He told me he was a human, got 'jacked' up by War down in Texas a bit after we took New York and basically is his own boss. Some CIA hot shot asset: head scalper slash drug smuggler. Notice his dead eye and those weird sausage fingers? Scrape with Punisher."

"Christ...I shook his hand! You think I..."

"Buddy, we're all rad proof, or we'd all be keeling over from cancer or in a unmarked mass grave somewhere. Besides, I don't think second hand gamma radiation works that way."

Ahead of the Punisher and Doom, where two squads of ten men and women, in dark muted green blocky metal armor embedded with a purple, platted gloves and hot pink glass core protecting the engines and slits were the eyes should be on the head. In each of their hands were large, cylinder weapons connected by wires and tubing to the back of their armor: from the intelligence reports drilled into your head for almost a month, energy weapons. All of them are of the same height and bulk under there metal chastises; they had the aura of being intimidating and elite, but also uniform and thereby disposable.

Only one figure stands out among them. His skin was paler then ghost and his eyes more wicked then any wraith, redder than blood. You could barely see that though, under his wild, blonde hair that flowed across him, like a crackling whip. His musculature is somewhat exaggerated, and barely contained in his red and silver armor, his shoulder pads looking like they were being bent at the seems and might just completely bend at a ninety degree angle at any minute.

Red Omega!

[Purifier Squad 1; 2; Omega Red]

The Morlock Tunnels

Inside the sewers proper: Black Panther, Queen Bruiser, and Ms. Marvel can now hear scattered gunfire. The sounds repeat rapidly after pauses, followed by electronic, ringing sound and flashes of red light. The latter than continues and continues, it’s pauses very brief by comparison. As it continues, the former starts to slow down.

You feel the foul black water underneath your feet as you step down and forward, but can’t hear anything over the sounds of the fighting. You could hold hands and stand side by side on this section, but it still felt restrained compared to ahead, closer to the increasingly loud and frantic sounds of fighting. There was dozens of pipes and tunnels leading into that giant section of sewer though...the source(s) could be coming from anywhere; hell they could be coming…

An elderly man, though with slime instead of skin, carrying a small three eyed girl and a green, scaly toad like boy, runs in from one of the right tubes, tears streaming down his face but somehow not audibly weeping despite the terror on his face, stopping only briefly to glance at the three of you, before bolting towards your direction.

“Help! The Purifiers...they’re behind us...they’re everywhere!” The man yells, stopping in front of you and dropping the children to their feet, as he caught his breath. “My daughter, Marrow, and Arthur Middicks are holding the squad behind me. Feral, Mole and Callisto are ahead…they were waiting for you and now they’re just trying to get everyone they can out. What...”

A boomerang clips off his ear, the appendage turning into slush before it hits the water.

In the dark, you see two men. One in a lion skinned outfit, complete with a mane at collar of his coat, and another in more traditional tactical armor with crossbones on the chest and a black mask with a skull like white shape over the front of his face.

“The boy, if you would,” the lion skin clad man says. “You have my word that he will come to no harm...and you will get a five minute head start. I’m tried of shooting fish in a barrel and would enjoy something resembling a hunt...”

His eyes set on all of you and a wide smile spreads over his face. “Morlock soldiers eh? Well Kraven accepts your challenge!”

“Please don’t make this take too long, sir,” The man with the Crossbones says. “I smell like diapers and rotten thai food, I want to go home and shower."
