This year, as the political climate thaws on "getting triggered by loving everything that doesn't conform to their specific viewpoint based off of the poo poo everyone around them shouts in their echo chamber"; middle ground Westerners all around the globe wonder 'Can we go back to laughing at South Park, and publicly admit the new Dave Chappelle special had some funny jokes?' fwiw i think this show got really, really lovely for a while but the last few seasons (and particularly the last one) have actually marked a pretty big swing back up in the show's quality and i'm excited for this one i'm okay with political takes and current-events episodes as long as their opinions are not absolutely dumb as all hell, and they've done a pretty good job of not having idiot fucker opinions lately (and they even explicitly walked back one of their worst takes)

The town went to war with Jeff Bezos who killed Kenny. Mr Hanky was sent off to The Simpsons land where offensive characters get a pass. PC Principal and Strong Woman had the PC Babies. Mr. Mackey and Kenny saved Halloween from the invasion of the scooters. Everyone learned ManBearPig was real and that the previous generation sold out the current one in exchange for cars and ice cream. All pretty good stuff. Nothing really out of the park hilarious but a highly enjoyable season. SLICK GOKU BABY posted:There's really only a small handful of goons that turn South Park threads into absolute garbage. I don't think I have anyone ignored on any platform. Their opinions might suck but since South Park was born in response to an era of right wing pc Christian conservatism, I'm looking forward to seeing how their reactions change as we move through this era of left wing pc extreme liberalism. As much as I've come to resent some of Parker & Stone's views, or rather their default posture of "caring about stuff is stupid", the show remains fascinating by virtue of going 23 years and basically always being exactly what the original creators want it to be, which I can't really say of any other scripted show. It's also interesting to watch their opinions evolve, which has happened more than people like to admit. Although they are definitely stubborn as hell about certain things. In a way, it feels like they're currently better positioned to piss off literally everybody than ever before, since there are still a bunch of "South Park Republicans" who are somehow convinced the show is for them, even though it... well, occasionally is, but only occasionally.

I always look forward to SP, I just hope we see less of the Cartman/Heidi and PC Principal/Strong Woman subplots. The latter seemed to have the two accept what they'd done toward the end of the season, so maybe they'll let it go. I also wish they'd figure out a fun plot like the Amazon/Bezos thing and let it ride over several episodes as opposed to putting it at the end of the season and running out of runway to keep going with it. Hope springs eternal.

It was dropping from 14 to 12 to 10 episodes and from 2 runs a year into 1. Though, there was some good stuff after the change. I have a good feeling about this season. What is that good feeling? It's that they will have a great episode for the first time since Cock Magic. Or was it Grounded Vindaloop. They aired back to back so I don't remember which came second.

I groaned when I saw they were starting with Tegridy Farms, but laughed at the various methods Randy employed for the farm tour. Did they just run the theme music and then have like a 6-7 minute block of commercials or was there a cold open? e- Have we had a vengeful Randy Marsh Adventure yet? This had its moments. The Tegridy Farms plot was weak. Cartman in the detention center was annoying but Santa doesn't come, for me. Santa no esta, aqui made me laugh. Mexican Joker hit the spot since it feels like we just had a Joker movie, yet are getting another.

Kyle and Cartman are likely going to be staying indefinitely at the ICE camp. This could go places. Though the real question is what they're going to do with Kenny. Either he'll be sent to the camps when they go another step with him being poor by making him outright homeless and an easy target for the cops, or he'll get hooked on Tegridy Farms weed.

I feel like for sometime now, the first episode of a season is strangely one of the worst (or at least not best). Maybe it's because they have too much time to think and work on it as opposed to the usual 6 day sprint. Tonight's premier was ok - nothing I really laughed at but am curious to see what they do with this ICE and MAGA stuff since it's already making them seem really lovely. I don't love the Tegrity Farms but can appreciate they're changing things up a bit.

This was not legendary but it was pretty good. I'm amazed they can still do the "you're a towel!" gag and have it still be pretty natural and unexpected. Randy's interjections when Stan was reading that little statement were hilarious. The A-plot was a pretty solid social commentary with the usual irreverent twist on it. It's funny how often they throw red meat to the "they're tired of making South Park and want to get cancelled" theorists even though they deny that whenever it comes up in interviews. Randy's angry rant about being tired of South Park was another one for the pile. sticksy posted:Tonight's premier was ok - nothing I really laughed at but am curious to see what they do with this ICE and MAGA stuff since it's already making them seem really lovely. I mean if anyone watched this episode and said "hmm, concentration camps are good actually" then they're beyond help, I don't see how that could be the takeaway. It's not the show's fault if someone who supports concentration camps chooses to watch it despite the obvious message.

They missed an opportunity for a callback in Stan sending Cartman to the ICE facility. "They somehow found out my name was Eric Cartmenez".

"I'm just here because some fat intolerant rear end in a top hat didn't want me around." Randy being a 1 man angry mob was great. The Mexican Joker paradox was pretty good. Kyle converting everyone to Judaism was clever. Overall not a great episode but a solid start to the season.

The episode was fine, I don't have much to say about it other than it seemed stronger than their typical premieres. At this point I don't expect too much from the show. It's overall a lot less hit or miss now than it used to be but that also means we don't get as many episodes that knock it out of the park, either. I agree that it's just still kind of fascinating to watch simply because of how old it is and how much it has grown and evolved with the times. It was originally intended to shock and to ruffle feathers, and now it feels like a comforting voice of reason.Sir Lemming posted:As much as I've come to resent some of Parker & Stone's views, or rather their default posture of "caring about stuff is stupid", They very clearly abandoned this stance and "truth is in the middle" years ago. I meant that more generally, not so much in recent seasons. The Trump election was definitely a shock to their system, but nobody's views totally change overnight. There has been a gradual evolution, but there's also been some stuff with PC Principal where it feels like they're going to cling to that persecution complex until their dying breath. (Like most other old comedians.) I don't have to agree with 100% of the show to watch it, though.

Really good episode. It's crazy that the show has been out so long and is still good. Is there any non-sketch comedy show that can say the same? It's like an alternative universe where The Simpsons is still quality.SweetMercifulCrap! posted:They very clearly abandoned this stance and "truth is in the middle" years ago. That said I do think they have some way to go in some aspects. People often highlight PC principal but I feel that the memberberries deserve a shout-out too. As if people only want Trump due to the nostalgia of "the good old days".

In fact, just last season that seemed to be how they felt about protesting the treatment of immigrants at the border. I'm glad they seem to have come around, I guess I'm just... tempering my expectations. Well obviously, but they were walking this weird line between making him say obviously terrible things (because it wouldn't be funny otherwise) and implying that he was being treated unfairly. There definitely is a point to be made about "cancel culture" going too far and not allowing for repentance, but Mr. Hankey was completely unrepentant, so... It just felt like maybe they needed another week to thread the needle and make it make sense. Anyway, new episode was pretty good, I think they can pull this off. That's actually what they do in real-life, specifically because if they show up in uniforms then people won't open their doors for them. Being a plainclothes secret police force and basically tricking people into letting them into their homes (which by law the residents don't have to do) is loving scummy but not technically against the law if people willingly let them in. Also Matt and Trey, while being staunch "non-political libertarians" always kind of skewed left in their politics. I mean go back and watch the Goobacks episode that was literally making fun of the MAGA crowd before there was a MAGA crowd to make fun of. They took ER JEEEEERBS!
