 Okay, what is this? Scarlet Nexus (set to be released June 25th, 2021) is a hack-and-slash action RPG with psychic powers made by Bandai Namco games, written by the brains behind Tales of Vesperia. The Leads  Yuito Sumeragi (CV: Jun'ya Enoki) Power: Psychokinesis Service Record in the OSF: New Recruit "I should be able to handle any kind of Other with my psychokinesis power!" A bright and positive-minded young recruit with a kind heart. He is the second son of the prestigious Sumeragi family, his ancestor was the founding father of New Himuka. The Sumeragi family has a long political lineage; with his father leading the current government, and his brother serving in command at the OSF. When Yuito was little, he almost got killed by an Other, but a member of the OSF rescued him. Later, he enlisted in the OSF and endured an intensive training, to one day be able to help the citizens of the city. He still cherishes the ear cuff he received when he was saved.  Kasane Randall (CV: Asami Seto) Power: Psychokinesis Service Record in the OSF: New Recruit "Who else is going to save them? This isn't a question about if we can do it. We have to." An elite soldier with superb fighting skills and power, she was scouted by the OSF and has graduated at the top of her class. Cool and confident, she is usually indifferent to the people around her. She reveals her real kind self only to the ones she trusts. She lost her parents in an Other attack as a child and was adopted by the Randall's, a family running a huge military corporation. While her relationship with her adopted parents is complicated, her adoptive sister Naomi is the only person showing her affection, leading to a strong bond and deep love between them. The hand-made hair ornament that Naomi gifted her is Kasane's most prizes possession. She is frequently having strange dreams about "red strings". The meaning of those dreams is still a mystery to this day. Party Members/Supporting Cast  Nagi Karman (CV: Yuma Uchida) Power: Aerokinesis Service Record in the OSF: New Recruit "We're OSF, so we fight Others. Let's do our best at the job we've been given for now." An energetic and positive young man who is always nice to have around. Her became Yuito's friend in the OSF training school, they bonded over the hardships of training. Currently his closest friend, he never cared about the reputation of the Sumeragi family, making Yuito feel more at ease. He wants to help people as an OSF member, but is also eager to gain some recognition out of it.  Naomi Randall (CV: Asuka Nishi) Power: Precognition Service Record in the OSF: New Recruit "Kasane is the type of person who is easily misunderstood, so I would worry if I’m not by her side." Kasane’s kind and somewhat reserved adoptive older sister. As the eldest daughter of the wealthy Randall family, she grew up comfortably doted on by her parents like a princess. However, she is selfless, treats everyone equally, and possesses the integrity and strength to side with the weak and crush the strong. Although she is the same age as Kasane, she treats the adopted Kasane like a younger sister. She loves Kasane like a real sister and shows her affection from the bottom of her heart. She supports Kasane often, who tends to clash with others.  Hanabi Ichijo (CV: Tomomi Mineuchi) Power: Pyrokinesis Service Record in the OSF: New Recruit "Fire, do what I say!" A childhood friend of Yuito who has a cheerful and energetic personality. She despises injustice making her quite impulsive when she witnesses it. She is a hardworking and caring person. She studied in the same school as Yuito but then got scouted for the OSF. The Scouted recruits and the ones who enlist themselves, like Yuito, do not share a training facility. After a long period apart, they finally meet again when they both become members of the OSF.  Fubuki Spring (CV: Isshin Chiba) Power: Cryokinesis Service Record in the OSF: 27 years "Now go. You'll only get in my way." He is an OSF team commander, currently one of the most powerful members of the organization. He is one of the Septentrions, a member with exceptionally outstanding abilities. Having a kind and gentle personality, he is extremely trusted by members of the OSF. He is sometimes seen as too indulgent and easygoing to some members of his platoon.  Gemma Garrison (CV: Ryota Takeuchi) Power: Sclerokinesis (density control) Service Record in the OSF: 38 years "Don't worry, my power is specialized for defense." A quiet and calm OSF veteran with a great knowledge of combat. As psionic powers weaken with age, the growth of OSF members is suppressed to maintain their brain young and powerful. Gemma's growth having restarted shows that he is nearing the end of his OSF career, and has started thinking about retirement. He is extremely proud of what he accomplished with the OSF, and keeps on improving his powers through intensive training to always be of use and protect those around him. Extremely serious and earnest to a point that he is almost clumsy, his life's focus has been fighting Others, as such, he often feels lost with trends of young recruits and their relationships.  Luka Travers (CV: Chinatsu Akasaki) Power: Teleportation Service Record in the OSF: 22 years "I may not look like it, but I have been on many OSF missions." While he may look like a young boy, he is a brilliant high-ranking officer of the OSF. He is one of the elite "Septentrion" members, the most powerful psionics in the OSF. His older brother is also a praised member of the force. Together they are known as the Travers brothers. Due to the differences in effects of the mandatory growth suppression in the OSF, Luka's body has stopped aging at a very young age, causing him to have a very fragile body. He trains his muscles every day and gets protein intakes in order to make his body tougher and stronger.  Cullen Travers (CV: Nobuyuki Hiyama) Power: Unknown Service Record in the OSF: (Not stated, but probably same as Fubuki? 27 years?) "Don't waste my time." The commander of the 2nd Regiment of the OSF Army, and the order of the 1st class of Septentrions. Even among the OSF’s most remarkable, his abilities are particularly outstanding. Since he is untalkative, self-confident, and does not mince words, he is sometimes described as arrogant. However, his overwhelming charisma and strength are irresistible assets that many members of the OSF admire. As Luka’s older brother, they have lived together as siblings without other relatives. He is also childhood friends with Fubuki, the commander of the 1st Regiment of the OSF Army, with whom he graduated in the same class. Together, the two are known as the matchless duo of the OSF.  Tsugumi Nazar (CV: Marika Kouno) Power: Clairvoyance Service Record in the OSF: 12 years "My clairvoyance can see you..." A shy OSF member. Often stutters when feeling exceedingly nervous when talking to others, and feels down because of it afterwards. However, she always says what needs to be said, strictly and clearly, and never loses her composure even in battle. She is very competitive and respected as a soldier with very good abilities. She likes gardening and due to the nature of her powers, she often succeeds in growing very difficult species. Although she likes spending time alone in nature, she cherishes and cares about the people in her life she trusts.  Shiden Ritter (CV: Kengo Kawanishi) Power: Electrokinesis Service Record in the OSF: 14 years "I don't plan on being your friend." Shiden's transfer to this new platoon, where he teamed up with Kasane, was caused by his sharp tongue and attitude. This complicated his relationship with his old commander. His sense of pride and his highly strict nature can make a troublesome teammate to have-that is, until you prove your strength to him. On the other hand, he does not shy away from complimenting people with strong powers such as the Septentrion.  Kyoka Eden (CV: Yumi Hara) Power: Duplication Service Record in the OSF: 29 years "We can't just abandon people who need our help. Let's do what we can." Kyoka is widely known as the OSF Major, the perfect amalgamation of brains and beauty. She is great at looking after her units and frequently oversees platoons as a result. She treats her team as a family and is usually a kind and loving person who transforms when danger comes knocking. She and Arashi joined the OSF the same year and have remained good friends throughout.  Arashi Spring (CV: Yui Horie) Power: Hypervelocity Service Record in the OSF: 29 years "Being able to selfishly slack off whenever I want to is something a grownup gets to do." This lovely soldier-the face of the OSF, whose passion and sunny persona have earned her fans of all ages-is just a persona Arashi uses when on screen. When there are no cameras around, she loosens up and slacks off her work, often referred to as "Lazy Ara" by her teammates. If she feels like it, her calm and brilliant mind makes her extremely dependable in any situation. It is ever rumored that the abilities of this genius are on par with those of the Septentrion. What is even harder to believe is that due to the effects of anti-aging drugs is that she is actually Fubuki Spring's older sister.  Kagero Donne (CV: Daisuke Namikawa) Power: Invisibility Service Record in the OSF: 12 years "Man, my invisibility power really saved the day!" An adult recruit in the OSF, who was scouted much later than usual, Kagero is a sociable, somewhat frivolous young man. With his handsome appearance and silver tongue, he can befriend anyone and get himself out of any situation. He never accepts defeat even in the direst times, and he always jokes around to reassure his teammates. He is an immigrant from Togetsu, a priest of their faith. However, he does not appear interested in their teachings anymore. His past is the only aspect of his life that he is secretive about.  Seto Narukami (CV: Hiroki Takahashi) Power: Electrokinesis Service Record in the OSF: 25 years “I care because they are rookies. In a fight against others, a split second of hesitation can lead directly to death.” He is one of the team leaders of the OSF and No.7 of the Septentrion. He is a cheerful and lively young man who is not conceited about his outstanding ability. He provides a helping hand to those around him when they are in trouble and is kind enough to pay attention to their needs. He insists on working in the field and has turned down all promotional offers, therefore still a team leader, but many people look up to him and ask to be assigned to his team.  Kodama Melone (CV: Aoi Yuki) Power: Sonokinesis (sound manipulation) Service Record in the OSF: 21 years “Kodama-chan is here!” One of the team leaders of the OSF. An energetic, eccentric character who likes to show off. Although her words and actions are devilish and extreme, she is also the assistant to Fubuki, the commander of the 1st Regiment. She often acts on her own terms, but she does her duties without hesitation and with a light-hearted sense of fun when ordered by her superiors. She used to be Shiden’s former senior officer. However, it seems that Shiden and her did not get along.  Haruka Frazer (CV: Tomoyo Kurosawa) Power: Telepathy Service Record in the OSF: 10 years “As expected of Kasane. You caught the Other’s reaction before I did.” She is Kasane's team’s operator and Wataru’s twin sister. She has a bold, energetic, and lively personality, which is reflected in her behavior, and she is sometimes seen as boyish, which bothers her quite a bit.  Wataru Frazer (CV: Kengo Takanashi) Power: Telepathy Service Record in the OSF: 10 years “Don’t underestimate my intelligence network. I can pull out all kinds of classified information!” He is Yuito's team’s operator and Haruka’s twin brother. He has always had a slim figure and is sometimes mistaken for a woman, but he doesn’t particularly care. His personality is rather dynamic and rebellious, and he takes pride in his duties as an operator.  Kaito Sumeragi (CV: Chikahiro Kobayashi) Position: Chairman of the Defense Committee Age: 25 y/o “Now you know, don’t you, Yuito? You know what you have to do.” The eldest son of the prestigious Sumeragi family, and Yuito’s older brother. At a young age, he became a shrewd politician and is now the head of the OSF. Due to civilian control, Kaito himself does not possess psychic abilities but is an ordinary person. He resembles his father’s appearance and political skills. Since childhood, he has been an honor student and a sharp thinker and is often described as unapproachable, but he has been kind to his younger brother, Yuito.  Joe Sumeragi (CV: Tsutomu Isobe) Position: New Himuka’s council leader Age: 56 y/o “I’m still against you are joining the OSF, but make sure you don’t get hurt.” He is the current head of the Sumeragi family, the founding family of New Himuka, and the chairman of the New Himuka Council. In other words, he is the Head of State. He is a skilled politician supported by the people and the father of Yuito and Kaito. He is a strict father but has little time for his family due to his commitment to work. He is against Yuito’s decision to join the army, so the father-son relationship is not the best, but he still cares for his son, sending him congratulatory messages for joining the OSF. Thanks to peerless analysis, we now know which supporting characters can have their powers be copied by our protagonists thanks to the SAS system! Yuito has access to Hanabi's Pyrokinesis, Gemma's Sclerokinesis, Luka's Teleportation and Tsugumi's Clairvoyance. Kasane, meanwhile, has Shiden's Electrokinesis, Kyoka's Duplication, Arashi's Hypervelocity, and Kagero's Invisibility. Here's what we know thanks to the trailers on how they work: Firstly, Hanabi and Shiden modify combos to some extent. We see that they add extra effects to regular attacks, and Yuito even gets a minor button-mash-based finisher where he holds his hand out and shoots fire. Hanabi also enhances Yuito's regular "throw an object at the enemy" Psychokinesis attacks with fire effects. Luka's teleporting lets Yuito jump from target to target between hits of his combos. Kyoka's cloning gives Kasane two copies who perform combos right beside her, and also enhances her Psychokinesis object throws by making extra copies of the object hit in sequence. Kagero's Invisibility is probably the one we know the most about, thanks to a bit of gameplay. During an interview with the devs with Kasane gameplay in the background, we have a little conversation in the base with Kagero, but the important part comes at the end of the conversation-it gives a menu describing the new level of power that Kagero's reached thanks to the bond. There are 6 levels in total: 1. Invisibility and Backstab 2. Increase SAS Regen 3. Sustained Invisibility and Guardian Vision 4. Assault Vision 5. Prolong SAS Effect 6. Sustained Invisibility & Critical Invisibility We see what level 3's description is (Sustained Invisibility and Guardian Vision), as well: "While the SAS is active, remain invisible even when attacking for a short time. When you are attacked, there is a chance for Kagero to appear as a Vision and block the attack, negating damage." A few extrapolations, guesses, and theories: -"Increase SAS Regen" and "Prolong SAS Effect" are probably somewhat generic and shared among party members, since increasing how fast the powers recharge while not in use and increasing how long they can be used are useful for every power. -Level 1 is probably the starting point for everyone. -Kagero probably makes your attacks stronger while you're invisible and it also makes it harder for enemies to hit you. Whether this is through making you invulnerable while you're invisible or just making enemies stop attacking with a puzzled question mark over their head remains to be seen. -Sustained Invisibility appears twice. Will the level 6 version turn that "when attacking for a short time" into just "while attacking"? It implies that at level 1 and 2 you become visible when you attack. -Critical Invisibility makes me wonder-does it make you invisible while you're at 'critical' health, letting you get out of dodge? Or does it mean when you deal a 'critical' hit?

Arashi's SAS effect makes it so that time essentially slows down for Kasane, and Tsugumi's reveals invisible enemies. We also get a view of the "Brain Map" (a skill tree) and an Equip screen. We also find out that our heroes can have more than one SAS effect active at the same time, as Yuito activates Pyrokinesis and Sclerokinesis at the same time.

Going over various trailers, it appears as if different objects have different 'finishers' when tossed around with Psychokinesis. In the Yuito fight in that tweet, we see him button mash to launch individual bars into the monster, then a final attack where he puts them all together for a big thrust. He also tosses a vending machine that splits in two and he slams both halves into the monster on the sides, and then shortly after he tosses barrels of water into the monster and then compresses the water for an attack. Kasane does something similar to the vending machine with a rock in her tweet fight, but she also uses a statue for a multi-slam, and also sends a chandelier spinning around like a top (controlled by the player!). Also it appears that borrowing your ally's powers via SAS runs off the same gauge as activating co-op attacks, as we see Hanabi's assist strike in Yuito's part, and Arashi's in Kasane's.

So comparing Hanabi's social link upgrade info with Kagero's we've seen earlier, we see some common threads: They both have Guardian Vision and Assault Vision. Hanabi's version of Guardian Vision is the same as Kagero's, so we can probably extrapolate that everyone gets Assault Vision and Guardian Vision. Slight difference-Kagero had "Increase SAS Regen" while Hanabi has "Increase SAS Recovery Speed". Minor translation change, or actual difference? "Prolong SAS Effect" is the same, though.

The thing that annoys me the most is that I'm still unsure if we'll be alternating between Yuito and Kasane's perspectives on a chapter by chapter basis, or if it's 'pick one and you're stuck with them for the whole game until you start a new campaign with the other' or what.

He said he played through the first hour or so of the game with both characters and there were significant differences in the story for each of them this game seems like its gonna have a fair but of replayability

Alright, good to know. Unrelatedly, going back through the gameplay, I noticed something: During a lot of gameplay, we can see that enemies drop items. I notice they come in two basic categories- (Specific Enemy Name) Analysis, and slightly more generic Battle Record (Letter)s. What do you think those will be used for? Crafting weapons? Selling for money?

So, Yuito is apparently a fan of something called "Baki". From the way it's talked about, it's probably some sort of in-universe anime or manga. Do you think that some sort of third secret route or final area/section will open up if you finish both Kasane and Yuito's routes? Also, will you be doing Kasane first and then Yuito, Yuito first then Kasane, or have two save files and do both concurrently?

This is mostly previous footage from Game Informer and the like, but there's a brief segment where we see Yuito with Tsugumi in his party... with Kagero. So... maybe the Hanabi/Gemma/Luka/Tsugumi and Shiden/Kyoka/Arashi/Kagero divide I laid out might not be as strict as I thought it would be.

Played the demo and it feels pretty middling. It feels like a licensed anime character action game tried to grab the brass ring and is still missing. Combat is arbitrarily stiff with combos in two different ways and I won't lie realizing I'm supposed to trawl through piles of item garbage mid mission to upgrade my gear looter game style was a very hard turn off. There is an enemy the boy fights thats so unfun to deal with I might recommend never playing him but I've not done the girl route Its neat it seems to have two completely different stories and variation in basic attacks between the two leads makes them feel more different than you might expect. I'll game pass this
