Fights are happening this week. Talk about them here!
it's time for a b league preview
Invicta FC 53 - Wednesday, May 3, 2023
Main Card - 8:30 PM ET, Youtube, AXS TV
Atomweight Title - “Lionheart” Jillian DeCoursey vs Rayanne dos Santos
DeCoursey is 6-3, with 2 wins by TKO and a sole sub victory. She is 5-2 in Invicta, and is currently on a two fight win streak including her title clinching submission win last year.
Dos Santos is 13-6 with 2 TKO and 8 submissions. She is also on a two fight win streak, including her Invicta debut back in January. Dos Santos has gotten a bit of an easy schedule, though. Out of her last 7 wins, none had a record above 0.500, 5 had never won a fight, and three of those were making their pro debuts.
This is going to be a big step up in competition for Rayanne. I was very surprised that DeCoursey beat Delboni last year, but Jillian is pretty solid.
Bantamweight - “Big Bad” Olga Rubin vs “Grizzly” Claire Guthrie
Rubin is 8-3, with 3 TKO wins. She is 1-1 in Invicta, notching her first win earlier this year. As I’ve noted previously, she had some easy matchups on her come up, with her first four wins coming against fighters who had yet to taste victory themselves on a professional level.
Guthrie brings a record of 5-1 to the cage, with one submission win. She is 4-1 in Invicta, and not counting exhibition bouts, she’s on a 4-fight win streak.
I think this will be a solid test for both fighters, with the winner inching closer to a title shot.
Strawweight - Jessica Delboni vs Danielle “Dynamite” Taylor
Delboni is 12-4, with two TKO victories. She is 4-3 in Invicta, most recently losing the Atomweight belt to Jillian DeCoursey. This is her first trip back to 115 lbs since 2020.
Taylor is 11-8 with 3 TKO and one sub wins. She is 1-3 in Invicta, having dropped her last three fights.
Taylor will have a rare reach advantage despite giving up an inch of height to Delboni. Will it be enough to give Danielle an edge? In my personal opinion, I hope not.
Atomweight - Monique Adriane vs Nicole Geraldo
Adriane is 5-2 with one win by TKO. She is 1-1 in Invicta, taking a decision over Pauline Granados last year.
Geraldo is a perfect 5-0, with one win by TKO.
Neither fighter has faced much in the way of top competition, though Adriane did lose a decision to Loma Lookboonmee back in 2019. Guess we will see if regional Brazilian or Mexican can crushing is better.
Flyweight - Liana “Li” Pirosin vs “Piece” Elise Pone
Pirosin is 8-5 with 3 wins by TKO. She is 1-3 in Invicta, most recently getting submitted by Kristina Williams last July.
Pone is 2-1 with one TKO stoppage. All of her bouts have been inside the Invicta cage.
Pone is about 8 years older than Pirosin, but she has quite a bit of height and reach advantage. She’s also most notable for staring at her last opponent between rounds like a complete psychopath, refusing to sit on the stool or even drink water.
Atomweight - Elisandra “Lili” Ferreira vs Flor “Compean” Hernandez
Ferreira is 5-2, with one win by TKO on her record. She is 1-0 in Invicta, taking a split decision win back in January.
Hernandez is 4-0 with one TKO and one submission win.
Both fighters haven’t really been challenged yet, though I suppose Ferreira has a touch more experience. Should be good to see if either of them develop as prospects.
Flyweight - Ky “Kobra” Bennett vs Kendal “The Crocodile” Holowell
Bennett is 2-2, with one win by submission. She’s 1-2 in Bellator, and 1-0 in LFA, with that decision win in 2021 being her most recent fight.
Holowell is also 2-2, with one win by TKO and one by sub. She made her pro debut in Invicta back in 2020, losing by first round armbar to Juliana Miller.
Someone’s two is gonna be a three, and I guess also the other person will have a two turn into a three as well.

I'm sitting about 100 ft from the ONE FC circle for tonight's MM fights. This venue is pretty small, so the stage and entrance feels huge.
Stoked to watch the GOAT do GOAT things tonight. Also, watching Rodtang take a soul live in person should be memorable and great.
I'm actually not as knowledgeable as I should be on ONE. Any other fights I should be looking forward to? Is the guy Northcutt fighting any good?

Oh, poo poo. Have fun, that should be awesome.
Northcutt's opponent seems at best sort of okay but it's also Sage and he's been retired for four years so who knows how he's going to look, the prelim fight with Ok Rae Yoon should be pretty good, and Aung La Nsang vs Rong Fan should be really, really stupid, but the fun kind of stupid.

ONE Prelims, sorry "Bonus Bouts" starting soon!
b league preview
i decided to eschew the more rote, dry recitation of stats and records (partly because i was getting bored doing it) and just went with a purely vibes approach
ONE Fight Night 10 - Friday, May 5
Main Card - 8 PM ET, Amazon Prime
Bantamweight Title - Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson vs Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes
DJ is real cool and good, but I’ve seen one or two rumors flopping around that he might call it a career after this fight. Previously, he’d said he had a few more years/fights left in him, but maybe as this bout approached he reevaluated things. Or maybe it’s just fake internet whispers that don’t amount to anything.
Moraes is fairly large for the division, and he’s very good as well. He might want to use his size on the ground against DJ since I think Johnson was starting to get some good reads on him before the finish came.
This should be a great fight, which of course means it will end inside 90 seconds due to a simultaneous double head clash and groin strikes.
Bantamweight Title (Muay Thai) - Rodtang “The Ironman” Jitmuangnon vs Edgar Juarez Tabares
RODTANG. He hasn’t consistently made it inside the cage recently, but when he does fight, he’s still dangerous and scary.
I know nothing about this guy Tabares.
RODTANG!
Bantamweight Title (Grappling) - Mikey “Darth Rigatoni” Muscumeci vs Osamah Almarwai
Muscumeci is a little grapple nerd but he’s real good at grapples. He’s faced a few guys who aren’t pure grapplers, but MMA guys who also grapple, so the lack of legal striking might have hampered them a bit.
I don’t know diddly squirt about this guy.
Mikey’s probably going to win again.
Strawweight - Stamp Fairtex vs Alyse “Lil Savage” Anderson
Stamp is a multi-sport star, competing in Muay Thai, kickboxing, and MMA. She’s obviously a very solid striker, but she’s also fairly competent on the ground. It’s not like she just gets taken down instantly and is submitted with ease.
Anderson had a brief stint in Invicta a few years back, but I don’t recall anything truly memorable about her run there. She’s been in ONE for a bit, losing to the mighty Android 17.
As with most things in life, I must put all my faith in Stamp Fairtex and the Stamp Dance.
Middleweight - Roberto “Robocop” Soldic vs Zebaztian “The Bandit” Kadestam
Soldic had a ton of signing hype when he went to ONE. He’s a former KSW champ and knocks out most of his opponents. Then he got in the ONE Circle and the fight ended in 3 minutes due to a penis attack. The aristocrats!
Kadestam also punches most of his foes to oblivion. However, it should be noted he does have a TKO loss to Ben Askren, which is most shameful.
Gotta send a Robocop to catch a Bandit, baby!
Welterweight - “Super” Sage Northcutt vs Ahmed “Wolverine” Mujtaba
Sage is a sweet boy himbo human golden retriever who has never had a negative thought enter his empty, empty head (Made even more empty when Cosmo Alexandre shattered his skull a few years back).
Mujtaba is a grappleman from Pakistan.
Good news for Sage: this guy is unlikely to break any more of his face bones. Bad news for Sage: he has struggled against grapplemen. Uh oh, Spaghetti-Os!
Light Heavyweight - Aung “The Burmese Python” La N Sang vs Rong “King Kong Warrior” Fan
La N Sang hits things hard until they break. One of the first things that always pops into my head when I think about Aung La N Sang (Right after I have to remember it’s not Auld Lang Syne), is a fight he had with Ken Hasegawa, and his body kicks made an enormous bruise on Ken’s side, and then later, Ken posted a picture from the hospital of the big jug of blood that had to be drained from his punctured lung. Super fuckin gnarly!
Fan is mostly a grappler, and has lost mostly to grapplers, which is always kind of interesting. There isn’t as much of a risk of that in this fight, which is good, but Fan’s faced a lot of severely undermatched opponents. Eight of his last 16 opponents have been somewhere in the neighborhood of 0-0 to 1-3.
La N Sang is probably going to hit Fan very, very hard.
Light Heavyweight (Grappling) - Reinier “The Dutch Knight” de Ridder vs Tye Ruotulo
De Ridder got his face punched by a large Russian man and lost one title so now he doesn’t want to get face punched again.
Ruotulo normally competes somewhere in the 175 - 180 lb range, so I’m sure it’s fine that he’s going up about 25 pounds.
Flyweight (Muay Thai) - Jackie Buntan vs Diandra Martin
Both fighters have lost to Actual Child Smilla Sundell. Where is Smilla Sundell? Why has she not fought since last year? Is it because she’s in school? I bet it’s because she’s in school.
Anyway, Muay Thai is cool, this fight should be neat.
Prelim Card - 7 PM ET, Amazon Prime
Bantamweight - Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhmetov vs Reece “Lightning” McLaren
This is a rematch from 2019 that I’m sure I never saw. Akhmetov took a decision then, and based on what each man has done in the intervening years (Akhmetov 3-0, all by decision. McLaren 4-2, 2 TKO, 2 submissions), I could easily see the argument for another Akhmetov win. He beat guys that McLaren lost to, he’s been active but not running himself ragged, and he’s still a solid fighter. McLaren is more dynamic, based on finishes, but the names on his record aren’t as eye popping.
Welterweight - Lowen Tynanes vs Rae Yoon Ok
Ok Rae Yoon would probably still be champ if his first defense was against anyone other than Christian Lee. He had Lee hurt early but somehow the TKO didn’t get called and Rae Yoon got a little tuckered out and then finished in the second. Now he’s curtain jerking. Weird!

if I've learned anything from my post-ONE introduction into muay thai it's how many muay thai diehards get really mad about international fighters in muay thai who mostly just punch people like it was regular kickboxing, and that knowledge makes it even more fun when it happens

submission grappling where neither fighter can get a takedown, on the other hand, is not cool.
edit: if there's five minutes left and there still hasn't been a takedown they should be allowed to start hitting each other.
