MUST...WATCH...ALL...TV

ALMOST HUMAN airs Mondays on FOX at 8pm Eastern / 7pm Central

35 years into the future and violent crime has increased so dramatically that members of the Los Angeles Police Department are now teamed with battle-ready android partners as they patrol the streets.

After suffering life-threatening injuries from a horrific attack on police headquarters, Detective John Kennex (Karl Urban) returns to the force with augmentations of his own. Still struggling with both the physical and mental scars from his injuries, Kennex finds himself partnered with Dorian, a lifelike android originally set to be scrapped as part of the purge of first generation "emotionally-equipped" models. Now the two unlikely partners have to come to terms with their unique situation as they work to solve the worst cases on LA's violent battle grounds while investigating the deeper mysteries behind a recent rash of terrorist attacks.

Almost Human was picked by many critics as one of the best pilots of the new Fall season. Its show-runner was a show-runner on Fringe and co-wrote many of its best episodes. Karl Urban is pretty bad rear end. It could be a fun combination of Blade Runner, Robocop, Dredd, I Robot, CSI, and Turner and Robotic Hooch.

Also apparently John Larroquette will have a recurring role on the show. Always fun!

8 Minute Preview : http://www.hulu.com/watch/550476 (Lots of sites are listing this as the "first" 8 minutes, but it's 8 minutes from early in the show)

Come join us in an android and tiny pill-filled future!

J.H. Wyman
J.H. Wyman started as an actor appearing in various roles on genre shows like Kung Fu: The Legend Continues and Highlander: The Series before moving behind the camera as a writer and producer, creating his own short-lived show Keen Eddie for Fox. After Keen Eddie was shuttered, Wyman joined Fringe for its first season as a writer and co-executive producer. At the start of season two, he was promoted to executive producer and co-showrunner. Over the life of Fringe he worked with Pinkner and Goldsman to co-write around 30 episodes, including some of the best loved episodes : There's More Than One of Everything, Peter, White Tulip, Brown Betty. Entrada, and Subject 13.

Role: Creator, Show Runner, Writer

Known For: Fringe (Co-Exec Producer - S. 1, Co-Show Runner - S. 2-5, Director - S. 4-5, Writer - S. 1-5, 30 eps.), Keen Eddie (Creator, Show Runner - S.1, Writer - S. 1)

J.J. Abrams
Abrams has had his hand in the creation or production of lots of high quality genre shows, and has had a hand in the initial concept, casting, and pilot production of Almost Human. He'll serve as Executive Producer for the series, nominally giving input over time, but most likely distracted by his 8,000 other projects.

Role: Co-Creator, Executive Producer

Known For: Star Wars VII (Director), Star Trek (Director, Writer), Revolution (Exec. Producer), Person of Interest (Exec. Producer), Fringe (Creator, Exec. Producer, Writer), Super 8 (Director, Writer), Lost (Creator, Exec. Producer, Writer), Alias (Creator, Show Runner, Writer)

Bryan Burk
Bryan Burk has worked as executive producer for pretty much every J.J. Abrams production, and Almost Human is no exception. Although most likely originally sought to have more involvement with the series, he's likely spending more time ramping up Star Wars VII in his role as producer.

Role: Executive Producer

Known For: Star Wars VII (Producer), Star Trek (Exec. Producer), Revolution (Exec. Producer), Person of Interest (Exec. Producer), Fringe (Exec. Producer), Super 8 (Exec. Producer), Lost (Exec. Producer), Alias (Exec. Producer)

Karl Urban as Detective John Kennex, Brooding Hero - :black101: "The Metal In My Body Reflects My Cold, Wounded Heart"
Detective John Kennex survived one of the most catastrophic attacks ever made against the police department. After waking from a 17-month coma, he can’t remember much – except that his partner was killed, his girlfriend left him after the attack, and he lost one of his legs and is now outfitted with a highly sophisticated synthetic appendage. Suffering from depression, mental atrophy, trauma-onset OCD, PTSD and the “psychological rejection of his synthetic body part,” Kennex returns to the force with deep reservations - no stronger than his reluctance to partner with the synthetic android Dorian. Expect lots of earnest emotions mixed with 100 proof true grit.

Actor Bio: Originally from Wellington, New Zealand, Urban got his first role on an American production playing Cupid and Julius Caesar on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena : Warrior Princess before getting his big break playing Eomer in The Lord of the Rings movies. Urban then moved on to snag multiple roles in high profile sci-fi and genre movies before making the move back to TV with Almost Human. He knows how to brood, as evidenced in The Lord of the Rings and Dredd, but he's also proved his smarmy dry humor chops playing Bones in the recent Star Trek movies.

Where You Might Have Seen Him Before: Dredd (Judge Dredd), Star Trek (Bones), The Chronicles of Riddick (Vaako), The Lord of the Rings (Eomer), Xena : Warrior Princess (Cupid, Julius Caesar)

Michael Ealy as Dorian, Android Cop With Emotions - :roboluv: "$1.99 In App Purchase For Pepper Spray Shooting Eyeballs"
A DRN series android designed to be a partner for a human detective with the Los Angeles Police Department, Dorian and his line were originally mothballed after their synthesized "emotional awareness" was deemed to be a flaw. Reactivated and assigned to work with Detective John Kennex, Dorian struggles with conflicting emotions and duties, as well as the strange and seemingly maniacal behavior of his humanoid partner.

Actor Bio: Ealy started his career on stage, appearing in a number of Off-Broadway productions before nabbing small roles in films like Bad Company and Kissing Jessica Stein. His big break came with 2002's Barbershop, which landed him a series of similar roles until he managed to find more serious fare, starring in Showtime's drama Sleeper Cell, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe. Ealy then moved on to find medium sized roles in a variety of short lived series ranging from sci-fi to generic USA show #231. With Almost Human, Ealy steps up again to take a lead role alongside Urban. Hopefully the two establish the important early chemistry needed for the series.

Where You Might Have Seen Him Before: Common Law (Travis Marks), Californication (Ben), The Good Wife (Derrick Bond), FlashFoward (CIA Field Officer Marshall Vogel), Sleeper Cell (Darwyn Al-Sayeed), 2 Fast 2 Furious (Slap Jack), Barbershop (Ricky Nash)

Lily Taylor as Captain Sandra Maldonado, Tough But Fair Leader - :nyd: "Damnit, Kennex, you've got to follow the rules!"
A long time friend and ally of Kennex, Captain Maldonado believed in his ability to return to duty after his traumatic experience, even pulling some strings in her role as commanding officer of an LAPD precinct to get him reinstated. Tough but understanding, Maldonado works to keep the delicate balance between her human officers and their android counterparts in check.

Actor Bio: Lily Taylor has been consistently acting in film and television for almost 30 years, usually taking on strange or unique characters in smaller roles in various movies. She may be best known to most people for her role as Lisa on Six Feet Under, for which she was nominated for an Emmy, or her recent role on Hemlock Grove, but she's probably known to millions as "Oh, yeah..I know her! She was in that thing? Right?" It will be interesting to see her take on a commanding presence as Captain Maldonado.

Where You Might Have Seen Her Before: Hemlock Grove (Lynda Rumancek), State of Mind (Ann Bellowes, M.D.), Six Feet Under, (Lisa Kimmel), Deadline (Hildy Baker), High Fidelity (Sarah Kendrew), Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle (Edna Ferber), Say Anything (Corey Flood)

Mackenzie Crook as Technician Rudy Lom, Crazy Eyed Scientist Weirdo - :science: "Diligently Explaining The Future So We Don't Have To"
Rudy Lom is a robotics technician working for the LAPD. Lom is in charge of the hardware end of the android partnering system, and therefore performs service and diagnostics on Detective John Kennex's partner, Dorian. A strange bird -- socially inept, with his whole world revolving around robotics and technology -- Rudy is somewhat protective of Dorian when it comes to John's aversion to androids, having a strong sympathetic response to the trials and tribulations of a person struggling to express themselves in a judgmental society.

Actor Bio: Mackenzie Crook received his big break playing Gareth Keenan ("The Dwight Character") on BBC's The Office, which led to a series of supporting roles in major film franchises, most notably one of the comedic pair of undead pirates Ragetti and Pintel in 2003's Pirates of The Caribbean franchise. Mackenzie continues to get steady work as a character actor in film and television, most recently playing the wilding scout Orell in HBO's Game of Thrones series.

Where You Might Have Seen Him Before: Game of Thrones (Orell), North by Northhamptonshire (Rod), Skins (John White), Pirates of the Caribbean 1-3 (Ragetti), The Office (Gareth Keenan)

Michael Irby as Detective Richard Paul, Potential rear end in a top hat - :argh: "KEEEEEENNNNEEEEX!!"
One of the detectives working under Captain Maldonado, Detective Richard Paul is a lone wolf with a huge chip on his shoulder. Paul doesn't have many friends, but he's earned respect in the force by filling the void in the absence of Detective John Kennex -- no doubt the reason he seems to be the only person not thrilled with Kennex's return to the force. Distrustful and standoffish, Detective Paul is probably going to be a gigantic rear end in a top hat. That's all the bio I've got so far.

Actor Bio: Michael Irby originally had his sights set on a career in soccer, playing in Europe as part Team USA until an injury sidelined him from the sport. At the suggestion of his college drama professor, Irby attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, where he began his new career as an actor. Perhaps best well known for playing SFC Charles Grey in the CBS series The Unit, Irby has become the go-to guy in TV for playing bad guys and cops. So no surprise that he snagged the role as Detective Richard Paul, rear end in a top hat Cop.

Where You Might Have Seen Him Before: The Cape (Tommy Malinari / Poker Face), 24 (Adrion Bishop), The Unit (Charles Grey), Line of Fire (Amiel Macarthur).

Minka Kelly as Detective Valerie Stahl, Human Intelligence Analyst - :j: "Damnit, Kennex, you've got to follow your heart!"
Recently assigned to the LAPD precinct under Captain Maldonado, Detective Valerie Stahl believes in the good of mankind, and she want to fight for it. Stahl is eager and somewhat starstruck where Kennex is concerned, as she sees John as a kind of hero after the attack on the precinct. Trusting in the best of the human spirit, Stahl will undoubtedly be unbearable for a few episodes -- but here's hoping she does more rear end kicking and less lip trembling.

Actor Bio: The only child of former Aerosmith guitarist Rick Dufay and Maureen Dumont Kelly, an exotic dancer (and that is the least weird thing in her Wikipedia early career profile), Kelly got her big break appearing as Lyla Garrity on the quintessentially awesome series why haven't you watched it seriously it's good Friday Night Lights. After FNL, Kelly found small parts in TV and movies ranging from The Pumpkin Karver to a short stint on NBC's Parenthood before nabbing a starring role in ABC's remake of Charlie's Angels, which imploded in a ball of fiery white critical hatred so massive it blotted out the sun for a short period of time before being cancelled after the 4th episode.

Where You Might Have Seen Her Before: Charlie's Angels (Eve French), Parenthood (Gaby), The Pumpkin Karver (Tammy Boyles), Friday Night Lights (Lila Garrity).

Some early reviews from the Comic-Con preview. More will pour in closer to the premiere date.

SF Gate
"Almost Human has a good chance of succeeding: It captures the teeming bleakness of the future world and establishes winning chemistry between Kennex and Dorian. The action scenes are terrific and the well-executed special effects, makeup and costumes contribute to the convincing look of the dark, crime-ridden city of the future…Judging from the pilot, at least, Almost Human's future on Fox is fairly bright."

Hollywood Reporter
"Fox's new sci-fi show has enough polish, plot and action to bring viewers into a genre series that's a welcome addition to broadcast television and gives the network a strong one-two punch."

Business Insider
"However, the pilot fell short in establishing a grand-scale, "LOST"-like mystery that excites the viewer. We're supposed to care about the origin of the attack that emotionally and physicaly wounded Kennex, but we don't know enough to be invested...Overall, it's safe to say Ealy's performance as one of the most charming robots since C-3PO is worth tuning in for, for at least a second episode. "

Denver Post
"With advanced technology and design sprinkled through every frame in a silent nod to “Bladerunner,” this series pilot sets a high bar. We’ll see whether it can match expectations by Thanksgiving. Ealy is particularly affecting, looking too perfect to be human in his android guise. Supporting players Mackenzie Crook (“Game of Thrones” and many British comedies) and Lili Taylor (“Six Feet Under”) light up the screen, while Minka Kelly (“Friday Night Lights”) merely looks pretty."

Washington Post
"Another dull example of the manufacturing of sci-fi factory goods with the (increasingly devalued) J.J. Abrams label slapped on. Less a homage and more like a bad knockoff, “Almost Human” lifts elements of “Blade Runner,” “Minority Report,” “I, Robot” and “
"Robocop” for this police drama set in 2048."

Miami Herald
"Almost Human is a tolerably silly sci-fi action show set in a Blade Runner-ish future where human cops are paired with robots to battle the high-tech gangs that have the run of the seedy streets…Almost Human has car chases and shootouts galore for the 18-to-34-And-Likes-Loud-Noises demographic, and a faintly sardonic sense of humor for the rest of us."

Can't wait, but the whole two-night premiere worries me. With ep 1 on Sunday and 2 on Monday, it worries me about the setup. I mean, football might runover and hurt its series premiere and Monday being ep2 might throw off people who are just coming into it.
