good q op. i think there is a lack of creativity, and modes such as the "casual" difficulty in da:i have removed the need for god mode, etc

I think some of these had to do with debug stuff that wasn't taken out properly back when. Also having passwords as a save system in lieu of actual saved games. If anyone leaves in cheat codes now it's because they're either really incompetent and release a half done game with developer builds (like the day 1 steam of Dead Island) or did it on purpose (console commands, etc). I think DLC took its toll there as well but I see that more in sports games than anything. What would have been a button code is now a 99 cent micro transaction for my virtual sports team.

Modding a PC game is as close to "cheat codes" as you can get in generation of gaming.

Cheat codes were cool. I remember in Twisted Metal 2, you could use cheat codes in multiplayer I guess with the advent of GAMERPOINTS and 'CHEEVOS and 'sanctity of my crafted cinematic vision', they've gone the way of the dodo. Though Uncharted had them if you unlocked stuff which was kinda cool. I remember sharing cheat codes with kids in elementary school like it was a porn stash though secret characters were the poo poo e: that reminds me, Twisted Metal 2 loving owned bones, i remember using the gameshark to play as darktooth but it was kinda buggy. too bad that genre is mostly dead Xaris fucked around with this message at 19:15 on Dec 9, 2014 |
