before I start, this isn't inherently abuot blender being better than 3dsmax or maya. yeah yeah cocks in the industry use those tools, much like photoshop its mostly coz they have historical reasons for being used and isnt to do with goodness

heres a neat thing blender does. if you hit delete for example in edit mode, you could be deleting a line, vertex, face, or dissolving either of those. you select a choice next time you hit enter, it has moved the menu so that the last option you chose is directly under the mouse. this means you have a) large freedom of choice but b) dont feel the burden of too many choices

blender's weird because it started as a crazy in-house tool so the UI was originally designed by people who were using it day-in day-out unlike most open sores

sculpting mode has dynaminc topology, something other sculpting software doesnt, where it dynamically subdivides to all you to scultp finer and finer detail without worring about the mesh topology

did you know blender can do texture painting? and the dialogue for changing the brush profile is extemely flexible and nothing photoshop has can compare

half the time i see people recommending say 3ds or maya its not because its a better program but because it has a particular tool "import into 3ds max - do this modifier - then export out" just what i wanted from thousands-dollar software
