it was civ 4 imo im encouraged by the fact that the lead devs on 5 said 'yeah there were issues here they were we're gonna do something about that next time' instead of just doubling down on mechanics that didn't really work that well like most other devs would 5 is still really fun though

civ 3 was like civ 2 with great improvements then i tried to even get started in civ 4 and there were immediately so many different loving resources to keep track of. hey, you liked the resource system in civ 3? well good because we went loving nuts with it
